😐 It’s a cold wet day here. The only 🙂 is that the junior high track meet was called off. I volunteered to help, and was not looking forward to another day standing in the cold, wet wind.
🙂 Less than a month left until school’s out.
😦 Not feeling too well today. Headache and blah-sé stomach.
🙂 Saturday. Went to bed early (9) and slept for 10 whole hours. After turning around 3 stories at work yesterday, that really felt so, so good.
🙂 Continued recovery for one of our local residents who was very seriously injured in the marathon bombing. I reached the man’s son yesterday for an update story interview and, considering how critical his dad’s injuries were/are, he is making much progress. Long way to go, though, he won’t leave the hospital for another few weeks and then he’ll be in a Boston rehab for PT through the summer.
🙂 Coffee. It really is underrated.
🙂 Our spike in heat yesterday has vanished, today is overcast and very cool, with possible rain for Monday.
😦 SoCal fires. Lots of ’em right now. Not too close to us, but you could still get a whiff of the smoke all the way to the coast yesterday.
🙂 Cowboy’s skin flare-up is better. 🙂 Cortisone. Not supposed to give it to them a lot, but it really is a miracle cure when it comes to those bad hot spots.
😦 michelle’s Suzie. So hard to lose a faithful companion.
😦 We lost one of our most talented page designers (and a 30-year employee) this week. She was recruited by another paper. Good for them (and her), our (huge) loss.
😦 Found out Thursday night that the Kid has to have a 160 page book read by Monday. I wheedled, threatened, coached and encouraged 60 pages out of him last night. This morning he is not happy about the fact that there will be no TV, video games or friends until I get another 20 pages. This is going to be a long weekend.
I spent all week saving up rants for today. Now I can’t remember any of them.
But they were important rants. 😆
😦 It shouldn’t be 47.2 degrees in Hendersonville on 4 May.
My grass is three inches high and there is a drizzle. I notice the professional lawn care people are cutting anyhow. I don’t cut wet grass. Weatherman says no sun ’till Wednesday. 😥
🙂 We had a nice breakfast at Kelseys. But it didn’t arrive until eleven.
😦 A lady, as part of a devotional, gave us all a smooth rock with a cross panted on it. What am I going to do with another rock? Can you throw a rock with a cross painted on it at a squirrel?
Can you imagine the story that future archeologists will concoct when they find the Ossified bones of a squirrel beside a rock with a cross painted on it?
😦 Started out yesterday feeling quite depressed & very discouraged about starting to host a Hope Team (small group from church) this coming Tuesday, with the rest of the family seeming not to be as helpful in cleaning the house as I’d like.
I know that sounds like such a little thing to be so down about, but the house has really gone to pot since Emily & Forrest moved in. Emily even admits she’s like a 5-year old when it comes to cleaning up after herself.
🙂 Chrissy volunteered to watch Forrest for much of the time while Emily was working, so with them playing outside or in the living room, I spent several hours cleaning the kitchen. I really do enjoy cleaning when I can do it without much interruption.
🙂 The kitchen looks really nice now! (And I’ve worked on some other areas of the house over the past week, so I don’t feel the weight of a messy/dirty house like I did before.)
🙂 Sweet Forrest asked me to “tum here, Mimi”, to play with him a couple times yesterday while I was cleaning. When he did, I took a break to spend time with him. I love how he loves me. 🙂
🙂 Although Emily may not be so good at cleaning up after herself, there are other things she does around here that are helpful, like grocery shopping & cooking. And she is such a good mother to Forrest.
🙂 Chas has these questions, which I will attempt to answer.
What am I going to do with another rock?
At least your pet rock has a companion now.
Can you throw a rock with a cross painted on it at a squirrel?
I can try, but you’ll have to send me the rock. I already have a few squirrels around here. Of course, I don’t think it matters what is painted on the rock, It will still hurt the squirrel. And will the paint still be on the rock when the archaeologists find it? Perhaps they will think that ancient religion called Christianity worshiped by sacrificing squirrels.
😦 A dreary rainy Saturday afternoon in Hendersonville. Forty eight degrees and drizzle. I don’t even want to read something.
Elvera’s gone to the mall. Believe me, there’s nothing at Blue Ridge Mall to see. But she has a $10.00 coupon from JCPenny.
Gamecocks are losing to Vanderbilt.
Anyhow………………………?
😦 Just got word that my former editor died … he was probably around 80 and had been ill, but it still came rather unexpectedly this morning. He was a classic newsman from the ‘old school,’ he would have retired right around the time the paper was just ushering in the first low-tech computers.
He had some great stories from the old days, when newspapers were rough and tumble workplaces, with bottles kept in desk drawers and reporters literally running out the front door on a big story to make sure they beat the guys from the paper across town to the scene.
😦 I didn’t get out to work on the foxtails today — originally I was going to go spend the day with my disabled friend but she canceled at the last minute, wasn’t feeling well, so that sort of left me to wing it here.
🙂 I did get the dishes and some laundry done … got Cowboy to the dog park (it was actually cool and foggy, looked like rain, late this afternoon here); and I got cleaned the next-door cat’s litter box and gave him some treats after taking in the mail.
😦 🙂 Dog walk time. I have to talk myself into it half the time. But once I’m out there, I really do enjoy the routine.
😦 It’s 46.1 degrees and raining in Hendersonville on 5 May. The flowers have come out, some gone. But spring hasn’t really come to NC.
😉 I have the spoildest woman in the world. It’s pouring rain and we went to church, SS, and out to lunch and she got maybe four drops on her hair. I learned early on that getting her hair wet was a major cotastrophe for most women.
I’m supposed to teach for Dr. Jones next Sunday. Titus 1, it is. I’ve only taught one lesson from Titus in all my life. It isn’t an easy topic. It has to do with ordaining men and that the Creatans are liars. Our men are all old retired codgers. How to apply it to them, I don’t know yet.
🙂 And even without rain, the temps have dropped significantly and we’re getting thick fog & mist — a great help in fighting those fires we have going out here (one of our elders is a city firefighter and has been up there the last few days helping out).
🙂 Good sermon today on our peace with God from Rom. 5:1-5 (2nd part is next week). The point was made that “peace with each other requires peace with God.”
🙂 More rain yesterday, but my younger son and I managed to get in a 1.5 mile run before it got bad. We also went to a STEM festival in the afternoon, and got wet going between booths as the rain got heavier, and got our shoes wet and muddy because the ground couldn’t soak it all up. There was less than I had hoped on specific STEM careers, but he enjoyed the physics presentation.
🙂 We’ve been trying to find out from our older son when he was coming home. It’s usually the first week in May, so I knew it had to be soon but he hadn’t responded to facebook questions about it. I guess maybe because he was busy packing. He called early this afternoon and said he was on the highway and would be here in about six hours. He also explained the puzzling line I had seen on his college billing statement this weekend, showing a tuition charge for the June term. He was going to take a June class, but then realized how expensive it would be and decided to take a community college class here instead.
😮 Temperatures have been crazy here. Wednesday evening it was in the 80’s. Friday morning the online weather page reported light snow here (I didn’t see any myself, but it certainly felt cold). Yesterday and today, more normal spring weather in the 50’s.
OK, so it’s warmer than I thought. Yesterday it got up to 64, and right now it’s down to 70 from a high of 73. I spent the afternoon transcribing my husband’s sermon from last week. Now it’s time to go take a run, since my next three evenings are full and I won’t have another chance until Thursday.
🙂 It’s a beautiful Spring Day!

Have you considered sitting next to him and either having him read aloud to you or vice versa? Make it more like a treat than a punishment?
I used to read until I got to a great cliff hanger and then have to do something–that would make the curious child grab the book and finish.
Just a thought.
