Prayer Requests 4-16-13

Who can we pray for today?

And please remember the victims of yesterdays attack, and the people of Boston.

Psalm 136:1-9

1 O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

2 O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever.

3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.

4 To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.

5 To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever.

6 To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever.

7 To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever:

8 The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever:

9 The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever.

  1. Heavenly Father,

I am thankful to know You hear our prayers over big things and little things. No concern passes to You neglected. I join my prayers with the prayers all over this nation for the city of Boston and all those affected by this terrible happening. People come from all over the world to be at that race, so we do not know who all this affected from outside of Boston. There may be those in a distant land, some remote village even, who are awaiting word to hear how their loved one is doing. Please give peace and comfort to all those who are waiting at this moment. Some are waiting in hospitals with momentary visits into ICU. Some are waiting for the reoccurring replay of the gruesome attack to ease up in their mind so they can settle down and get some rest. Others are waiting in fear that this is just the beginning of a string of similar horrors. Lord, You know the hearts of all these people and more…the investigative teams who are working and waiting to find who did this…the world leaders who are waiting to determine what this means for other events…and the evil perpetrators who are waiting to see if they will be caught and brought to justice. Lord, I do pray that You will let whoever did this be arrested and that justice can be done for they have broken the peace of our land just as surely as they have broken the bodies and hearts of individuals. Please show Yourself strong while we are in the weakness of waiting. May this prove to be another time when people are drawn to know You are God and we are Your people. Nothing escapes Your notice and You know what we need before we ask. But You want to hear us praise You, give You thanks and then ask for our known needs. Thank You, Abba, that things were not worse in Boston. But even if things do get worse, we know that we do not need to fear those who can hurt the body, only those who might damage the soul. Please add to the number of believers today and keep all those You have given to the Son secure in Your love and peace today. I praise You for You are our great and mighty Overcomer. In the name of Jesus, Amen

  2. Please pray for Paul who is suffering terribly with kidney stones. May the docs find the remedy to bring relief ASAP.

Please pray for my husband and all the other tax preparers who are dependent upon the Drake system for doing their work. The system failed yesterday, and we do not know what this will mean for the many who are affected. Maybe IRS can make provision of some type?? The Drake company is owned by Christians who always send out Easter and Christmas cards acknowleging Jesus as Lord. Please pray for them about all the pressure and stress they must be under over this unusual breakdown of the system.

Thank you all for partnering with me in prayer.

Also Tim, a friend of the family’s, is having major back surgery today. Please pray for a good outcome and a lessening of his extreme pain. Thanks all.

  4. My prayers for all of you. I would appreciate prayer for anxiety issues. Nothing concrete and I am not sure if this is physical or spiritual, but it is persisting longer than I would like.

  5. Kathaleena (and all who may be experiencing anxiety issues), a friend of mine who experiences anxiety when storms come up (the friend who lost her home in a tornado) recently shared the following devotion by Spurgeon with me. I believe it is applicable for all of life’s storms, particularly in the part where he asks, “Dear reader, is this an hour of distress with you?”

“For there stood by me this night the angel of God.”
    Acts 27:23

“Tempest and long darkness, coupled with imminent risk of shipwreck, had brought the crew of the vessel into a sad case; one man alone among them remained perfectly calm, and by his word the rest were reassured. Paul was the only man who had heart enough to say, “Sirs, be of good cheer.” There were veteran Roman legionaries on board, and brave old mariners, and yet their poor Jewish prisoner had more spirit than they all. He had a secret Friend who kept his courage up. The Lord Jesus dispatched a heavenly messenger to whisper words of consolation in the ear of his faithful servant; therefore he wore a shining countenance, and spake like a man at ease.

If we fear the Lord, we may look for timely interpositions when our case is at its worst. Angels are not kept from us by storms, or hindered by darkness. Seraphs think it no humiliation to visit the poorest of the heavenly family. If angel’s visits are few and far between at ordinary times, they shall be frequent in our nights of tempest and tossing. Friends may drop from us when we are under pressure, but our intercourse with the inhabitants of the angelic world shall be more abundant; and in the strength of love-words, brought to us from the throne by the way of Jacob’s ladder, we shall be strong to do exploits. Dear reader, is this an hour of distress with you? then ask for peculiar help. Jesus is the angel of the covenant, and if his presence be now earnestly sought, it will not be denied. What that presence brings in heart-cheer those remember who, like Paul, have had the angel of God standing by them in a night of storm, when anchors would no longer hold, and rocks were nigh.

O angel of my God, be near,

    Amid the darkness hush my fear;

Loud roars the wild tempestuous sea,

Thy presence, Lord, shall comfort me.”

Praying for all the needs here.

  6. Thanks, 6 Arrows. I do find scripture helpful, too. However, the anxiety is not the result of ‘outside’ concerns, but just almost a constant undercurrent. I suspect it is has a physical component. At any rate, it is most uncomfortable.
