  1. 🙂 Elvera really needs me.
Without me she woldn’t have anyone to tell what she’s going to wear, and ask,
    “Does this look allright?”
    Of course it does.
There may have been a time when I questioned it, but I don’t remember one.

  2. 🙂 Chas and Elvera- What an example for us younger folks to follow. Of course, that question, or any other question about clothing, is hard to answer correctly. Women are funny creatures in that way. If you tell the truth you just might get in trouble, especially if she thinks you’re lying. If you say something she wants to hear, she gets upset because you are lying. So, a word of advice to you young women- Don’t ask your man if what you are wearing looks good or makes you look fat. He cannot answer correctly no matter what he says!

  3. Right answer, Chas.

😦 Tough day at work yesterday for a number of reasons. Please pray that I can muddle through this period and that my emotions will settle down. Too much stress, the pressure, atmosphere and morale are becoming increasingly hard to walk through some days.

😦 I suspect I may also be going through some of those post-Christmas blues that I seem to get around this time of year (not every year, but it’s not uncommon for me). January-February is so often just a dreary time; and no more holidays for us until May, although the anticipation of Easter will perk me up here soon, I hope!

😦 I’m working today, but I’ll have Monday off in exchange. And I should be able to write everything from home without going into the office.

😦 Which brings me to our (once again soaring) gas prices. Sheesh.

🙂 Got Phos’ newsletter in my email this morning. Love seeing the photographs and hearing about her work there.

🙂 My salvation and God’s amazing grace shown to me and so many others, every day; the privilege and gift of knowing God.

  4. Chas – “Of ciourse it does ” is always the correct answer. 😉

🙂 Hubby and I have a day to ourselves. OUr son who lives with us has plans for the day.

🙂 Today is my daughter’s birthday.

🙂 Daughter and her greyhound will be coming over tomorrow for brunch.

😦 Family drama with extended family all week.

🙂 I did not have to go and deal with the aforementioned family drama.

😦 The problems causing the family drama are not going away – just postponed so I would not come up.

😀 I have been enjoy 2 new cds I bought after AJ introduced us to The Piano Guys last Saturday. Well worth the money I spent.

😀 This is the day that the Lord has made! I will rejoice and be glad in it!

  5. 😦 My mom’s issues. She has back pain from the fall she recently took. Apparently, she has a fracture in a disk, which she will do nothing about. I am unsure what can be done, but know she wants nothing done, at any rate, except to have some relief from the pain.

🙂 Good trip to the VA with the parents to bring my dad down for a check up and some eyeglass issues. My dad is doing so well, in spite of all his own health issues.

😦 Missing some grandchildren birthday parties today.

🙂 Music jam and potluck this evening.

  6. 🙂 I get to see Lynn Vincent next month.

🙂 went back to read and work on the synopsis I wrote in a day only to discover that–somehow–the Lord outlined the entire book. I’m stunned, the whole story is there.

🙂 😦 I just have to master WWI and write it, now!

🙂 which is exciting and scary.

  7. 😦 My supervisor came to talk to me a couple days ago about a complaint someone had made about the behavior of the person who reports to me in a meeting the day before.

😦 After talking to her and other people at the meeting, we concluded that the complaint was unfounded. When I went back to my supervisor, I learned that the complaint had come from someone who wasn’t even in the meeting, and had been (mis)interpreting what was said by someone who was there.

🙂 In the course of the conversation with my supervisor, he said he hopes I plan on working there long-term. Since my probation period is almost over, that sounds like I’m not going to be suddenly let go before that time is up, as my predecessor was.

😦 The person who reports to me is still anxious that I might be suddenly “yanked” out and she’ll be again left to do both my job as well as her own, and she wants me to cc her on all my emails so she’ll know what I’m working on in case she has to take it over.

🙂 The storm didn’t turn out to be bad, no trouble driving to or from work. But there’s enough snow that the Boy Scout campout this weekend can include some snowy activities (unlike the Klondike Derby last month that had to be held without snow).

  8. There was a car accident about a week and a half ago. For whatever reason, some folks managed to flip their car a couple of times, end over end, and landed in a creek, upside down. The occupants were not wearing seat belts so ended up outside their car. One landed in the creek and the car landed on him. He managed to keep his head just above water but was quickly going into hypothermia. The deputies arrived, saw the situation, and were able to lift the car off they guy and get him out of the creek. Thanks God. They don’t know how they were able to do it. But God has designed our bodies to do amazing things.

  9. Tell us what you think of the Carson remarks, Michelle. I thought they were excellent, although I understand the concerns expressed by some that perhaps the venue wasn’t appropriate.

  10. These are killers! The jaunty songs with the grim photos. Fortunately, this story–which cannot tell you about until I get a contract because the idea is so terrific–is infused with hope, but it’s a tough sell. WWI was miserable.

  11. Peter L., I have a husband with an artistic eye, and so I can and do ask him if something looks good. If he says no, I change into a different outfit. (I don’t ask him all that often. Usually he says yes, but he has told me no a couple of times. He told me yes on Valentine’s Day. 🙂 )

  12. Early in our marriage, I said to Elvera that something didn’t look good with….
    She never wore it again.
    Some WW I songs:
    Over There
When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again
How You Gonna Keep Him Down on the Farm after He’s seen Pairee.
    Give My Regards to Broadway.
    kKKKatie and it’s parody KKKKP
and others I can’t think of now.

    Hundreds of WW II songs.

  13. I always thought “When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again” was a Civil War song.

🙂 I covered two events, wrote the stories & turned them in from home, called the cops in all our cities, checked the wires, nothing else going on, all done. Not too bad for a Saturday shift, but it was still a pretty full day.

  14. 🙂 Loved hearing the law and gospel this morning, as always. But it was especially sweet to me after the week I’ve had.

🙂 Spent time chatting with a new family transferring into our church, how delightful they all are, especially the mom (of the grown kids) who’s a school teacher and just full of life. She perked me up. 🙂 And I needed that.

😦 Is it just me or is everything falling to pieces around us? It may just be that my work situation seems so stressful and grim right now, but then when I look around, it all seems to be going you-know-where in a hand basket lately. 😦 But maybe it’s just me.

Still, I suspect we’ve lately, in the past decade and increasingly in the past couple years, hit some kind of cultural tipping point.

🙂 Which brings me to the old Heidelberg Catechism question: What is your ONLY (caps mine) comfort in life and death?

Answer: That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him.

  15. Donna – It’s not just you. I feel the same way. 😦

Seeing it (the cultural tipping) in my own family – extended & in my own home – makes it very hard to ignore. But it sure has me praying more!

  16. 🙂 First-grade daughter had a “hoedown” at school Friday. It was absolutely adorable to watch.

🙂 Had an hour and a half conversation with my sister (in Africa) today for her birthday. It was such a pleasure to catch up.

😦 Hubby went fishing this weekend, but didn’t catch any fish. I was looking forward to fresh fish for dinner!

Donna & Karen: I, too, worry about our country and the culture. I feel like we are living in the story of The Emperor with no Clothes. I can see he is naked, but everyone around me is raving about the beauty of his new suit!

  17. Funny you should use the Emperor With No Clothes story. I have often used that analogy myself. The change in views of my own parents is the most shocking to me. I have to remember how small the church was when it started–and of course, God’s faithfulness.

  18. It seems like a dam has been broken, the changes (for the worse) are coming at such a rapid pace right now — and any dissenting view is being silenced with little concern about freedom of debate.

  19. Having spent the weekend with WWI, I’m seeing parallels–the world turned upside down, lots of fear, efforts to control and “normal” people who just want to live their lives in peace are dragged into things they’re neither interested in nor have any need to be involved with.

Or, as Rodney King said, “Why can’t we just get along?”
