Prayer Requests 2-13-13

Who can we pray for today?

And it’s Wednesday, so please remember Gambia and those ministering there. 🙂

Psalm 111

1 Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

2 The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

3 His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

4 He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.

5 He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.

6 He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.

7 The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.

8 They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

  1. Heavenly Father,

I lift up for Your blessing the missionaries who are working in The Gambia as physical helps to the people they serve while teaching the people about You and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Strengthen the missionaries with good health and physical endurance. Conquer any virus germs or disease that may be incubating. Please give them emotional fortitude to face any challenges with difficult personalities or fears about the future. Please help them to daily grow in their trust and faith in You. I also pray for the people they encounter in The Gambia. Open up the hearts to receive the Good News of Jesus. Show the people that Jesus offers a chance for new life without the burden of guilt from their former lifestyle. May they witness the love and peace of the Christians and desire to have that for themselves. You are the only avenue, Abba, for the peace that passes understanding. Light the way in The Gambia today Lord for many to become believers. Bring new ones into Your sheepfold today. Please break down any communication barriers so that Your love speaks more clearly to the people of The Gambia than any misunderstanding of what faith in Jesus is all about. I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen

  2. Please pray for my friend’s husband, D., who will have surgery for prostate cancer at the end of this month.

Please pray our son will be selected for a PhD program that will honor God with the details and requirements for completion of the program. And may the career that our son is preparing for be one that will always point students and colleagues toward Jesus.

  3. Amen. Please pray for a young woman named Sarah B. who has Moya-Moya disease. She just had surgery yesterday. She has a long recovery ahead, it seems. Havent heard how the surgery went, yet.

Also, we have a friend whose daughter should have died long ago. She has had major surgeries for cancer and given very little time. That was over a year ago. She had to have some surgery again yesterday and they could not do all the repairs they wanted to do. The doctors are very, very surprised she is still alive and told her to continue whatever she is doing. Her father also astounded the doctors with his recovery from cancer awhile back. Her name is Nancy L.

Please remember my mother in your prayers also. I pray for her to be ‘free indeed” in Christ.

There is also a young woman named Courtney who had meningitis. She lost all her hair and part of her colon. She had recently been a beauty queen. The doctors had her in a coma for awhile, so she woke up to quite a nasty surprise. Her sister shaved her own head in solidarity. I know her grandmother, who asked for prayer for her.

  4. God seems to have sent me to I Corinthians 2 last night while praying about our problems with our son. I Corinthians 2:9 is a special verse to me because it is the verse he picked out to write on the church floor. (another story) Last night I felt like I was being told to read the whole chapter. I’m still working out what it means.

  5. KBells, in your case, the reason for writing I Cor. 2:9 on the church floor might be important. It is an important verse. The key to understanding it is Paul’s following discussion of the Spirit. Paul doesn’t imply, in 2:9 that everything is going to be great in school or work tomorrow. But it is an important comfort in diversity. It helps to keep perspective.

  6. I could use prayers today. I have this general, vague feeling of discontent for some reason today. Just kind of out-of-sorts, I guess. I want to go to worship this afternoon with focus, also. Prayers that my mind would be cleared of the cobwebs and that my heart would be in the right place prior to worship. Thanks.

  7. Chas, when we were building our new church building, before they put the carpet down, we were all invited to come and write Bible verses on the floor of the sanctuary. The Kid, (about 6 at the time) wanted to pick out the verse. He opened the Bible to the page and I suggested that verse. He wrote it on the floor himself.

  8. OK so update: Sister and I are going to Mom’s at Mom and her significant other’s invitation. The earliest we can make it there is next Thursday. Bi-polar Brother is in a state of mania, and that seems to be what’s driving this train. This time.

Although Mom’s doctor took the initiative to do some diagnostic testing on Mom to see what’s going on. Since SIL is the designee handling Mom’s meds. (Doctor and Mom decided). There is a power struggle going on between Brother and Mom”s Significant Other.Doctor also told SIL that Mother is not to drive. SIL got the heads up, Doctor will be telling Mother a lot of this sometime today (about the tests and the no driving).

Mother seems very lucid today, and I think a lot of the problem may be some of the meds. I assured Mom and SO that Sister and I do NOT want to make SO go away. He’s been part of her life for 30 years. We do NOT want to put her in a home. Brother keeps running his mouth holding these things over Mom’s head as something Sister and I want to do. The fact that Mom and SO are reaching out and asking for help is a HUGE step. (Thank you for praying).

We will be spending next weekend trying to sort this mess out, and trying to get help for everyone. We are not excluding anyone (but we are not talking to Brother about it until a day or so before.) It is not going to be a good weekend. Sister and I are pretty sure that Brother will pull out all the stops and say hurtful things and push buttons and everyone’s skeletons and baggage is going to come out. I warned them both that there is going to be a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth before it is all said and done. I think Mom and SO are afrain of Bi-polar brother

I also think we are dealing with some demonic strongholds here too. I intend to fast and pray before I go. Non of the rest of the family are believers. SIL claims to be, but I just don’t know.

Please keep us all in prayer and me too as I prepare to get myself prayed up before I go. I’m keeping my eyes on Jesus. Pray that we can find some solutions.

    Thank you brothers and sisters.

  10. Prayer of thanksgiving for God’s protection during our car crash over the weekend, and for the EMT’s and State Trooper who assisted us afterwards. It was an inconvenient end to a vacation in the mountains to watch oldest daughter speedskating on the 1980 Olympic Oval. The worst injuries we know of were to the other driver who only got a bloodied nose and minor facial cuts when her airbag deployed. I shudder to think how much worse things could have been had there been oncoming traffic, or had anyone not been buckled in.

It made us keenly aware of and thankful for His constant protection in our lives.
