What’s news today?

Today I’ll start with some sports news. It is after all supposed to be a pleasant distraction from the bad news all around us.

Oh wait. Nevermind.

🙄

First to baseball, where PED’s are everywhere it seems. Some say this is all coming out now because the Steinbrenner boys see an out from the overly generous contract they gave this guy. I say “let’s hope so”. It’s time to put an end to the distraction known as ARod. The freed up money will just be a bonus at this point. You would think he’d have been playing better if he was juicin’, but no. Two other former Yankees, and some other big names are involved as well.

From MSN/FoxSports

“Alex Rodriguez was ensnared in a doping investigation once again Tuesday when an alternative weekly newspaper reported baseball’s highest-paid star was among a half-dozen players listed in records of a Florida clinic the paper said sold performance-enhancing drugs.”

“The Miami New Times said the three-time AL MVP bought human growth hormone and other performance-enhancing substances during 2009-12 from Biogenesis of America LLC, a now-closed anti-aging clinic in Coral Cables, Fla., near Rodriguez’s offseason home.”

“The newspaper said it obtained records detailing purchases by Rodriguez, 2012 All-Star game MVP Melky Cabrera, 2005 AL Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon and 2011 AL championship series MVP Nelson Cruz of Texas.”

“Other baseball players the newspaper said appeared in the records include Washington pitcher Gio Gonzalez, who finished third in last year’s NL Cy Young Award voting, and San Diego catcher Yasmani Grandal.”

And then it’s on to the NFL, for some more abuse of PED’s and assorted banned substances. First let me say, in the interest of full disclosure, that I don’t like this guy. At all, so maybe I’m biased. But what I’d really like to know is why this guy is playing in the Super Bowl if he violated the policy? C’mon Commissioner, do you really wanna end it? Now’s your chance. C’mon, set an example. What have you got to lose? You’ll already be the most hated man in the building come game time. Saints fans will already boo you mercilessly, why not have the Ravens fans join the chorus too? You’d be HUGE in San Fran next time you visit.

🙂

From BostonCBSLocal

“Ray Lewis’ final season and Baltimore’s run through the AFC to the Super Bowl has been described as destiny or a fateful miracle, but it appears as though Lewis’ recovery from a torn triceps was aided by the use of a banned substance.

Sports Illustrated reported that among Lewis’ many treatments for his torn triceps, suffered Oct. 14, was a deer-antler spray, which is banned by the NFL. Philly.com published quotes from the SI article from phone conversations between Lewis and Mitch Ross, the owner of “Sports with Alternatives to Steroids” (S.W.A.T.S.).”

“The deer-antler products are described as containing IGF-1, which is banned by the NFL. The report explains that IGF-1 is what human growth hormone is converted into when it reaches the liver.”

Don’t worry. I did find a good one to share too. Crazy if you ask me, but pretty cool too.

For this next one I need my shocked face.

😯

There it is! OK, now I’m ready.

From FoxNews

“A preliminary draft of a report by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on  Climate Change was leaked to the public this month, and climate skeptics say it  contains fresh evidence of 20 years of overstated global warming.

The report — which is not scheduled for publication until 2014 — was leaked by  someone involved in the IPCC’s review process, and is available for download  online. Bloggers combing through the report discovered a chart comparing the  four temperature models the group has published since 1990. Each has overstated the rise in  temperature that Earth actually experienced.”

““Their predictions have largely failed, four times in a row… what that means  is that it’s time for them to re-evaluate,” Spencer said.”

Re-evaluate? More likely they just double down on it.

Sure they broke the rules, BUT……….. you’re still supposed to feel bad for them and reward their bad behavior.

It’s just common sense or something.

So when will his endless campaigning on the taxpayer dime ever end?

Meanwhile, Jay Carney get’s in on the disinformation campaign as well.

Never been more secure?

From TheWashingtonTimes

“Even as President Obama travels to Las Vegas Tuesday to call  for legalizing  illegal immigrants, the latest numbers from the U.S.  Border Patrol suggest that  the flow across the nation’s southwest border  jumped by 9 percent last  year.

The Border Patrol made 356,873 arrests along the U.S.-Mexico  border in fiscal year 2012, up from 327,577 in 2011, according to  figures  obtained by the Associated Press and confirmed by The Washington  Times. Border  Patrol officials estimate that apprehensions are a good  proxy for illegal  crossings, so when the numbers go up, it means that  the flow of illegal  immigrants is going up as well.”

And the number will only increase now that amnesty has been promised. I should have known they were lying since their lips were moving.

  1. I have to confess that I have mixed views on folks coming here from Mexico. I guess its because I grew up and went to school with Latin American people and I live in a neighborhood where a large percentage of people are from Latin American decent. Probably my biggest concern is what the Bible says: Exodus 22:21 “You shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” Exodus 23:9 “You shall not oppress a stranger, since you yourselves know the feelings of a stranger, for you also were strangers in the land of Egypt.”

While some may say this only applies to Israel, I would have to disagree. Parsing the intent of God’s Word can be dangerous. When Mike Huckabee was running for president, some people asked him if he would enforce the border. He said he would, but he would not be unkind to illegal immigrants.

I think the Laws need to streamlined to allow for easier immigration, but the border should be secured 1st. Violent criminals who come into the country should be locked up and sent back via a Marine escort.

  2. I’d have to agree Joe. Those that are here, especially those that have been for a long time, should be dealt with kindly and fairly. But part of being fair is to require some penalty for willingly breaking our laws. And the borders must be sealed first. And there should be some type of penalty for breaking the law in coming here. Just letting them jump the line ahead of folks who did it the right and legal way is not acceptable. It sounds like some in the Senate wish to do so. But it sounds like the President just wants amnesty, and to leave the backdoor (border) open for more to do the same. And let’s face it, he only wants more Democrat voters, he doesn’t seem to care about what’s best for the US of A. We can do this fairly, I just don’t trust our leaders to do it right. And I also don’t think they view the lawbreaking part with the seriousness it deserves. But it is way past time to address this, and secure the borders.

  3. we must enforce the U.S.-Mexico border, the problem is the left do not care about the border they see a larger new voting block that will keep them in power plus it is a group of people that are not tied to the History of the United States and our founding doctments. So they can help the left change our nation.

    We must be concern.

  4. The WT numbers are at odds with other reporting which put the 2012 deportation number at 409,849 with 55 percent of those having been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor. It is a record number since the Clinton Presidency. Pew reports that illegal immiration is also at an all time low. President Obama has actually taken flack from the left on is record.

  5. CB,

Depends who you ask. And Obama has been accused of fudging the numbers. Given his love for doing so in other numbers, like the BLS UC numbers, I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to think he’s done so here as well.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2012/09/02/obama-is-accused-of-inflating-his-deportation-numbers-whats-really-happening/

“Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) is accusing Obama and his administration of having “fabricated” and “falsified their record to achieve their so-called historic deportation numbers … illegitimately adding over 100,000 removals to their deportation figures for the past two years.”

Smith, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, points out the Obama administration has decided to include removals under a new border security program called the Alien Transfer Exit Program (ATEP) in the official deportation statistics beginning in 2011, citing internal documents his committee has recently obtained. He believes this practice is illegitimate because “there are no penalties or bars attached when illegal immigrants are sent back via ATEP and they can simply attempt re-entry,” according to his Aug. 24 statement. The ATEP removals accounted for about 37,000 of the approximately 397,000 immigrants who were deported in 2011, Smith continues. Without them, the deportation numbers for 2011 would actually by lower than 2008′s numbers under Bush.”

“Smith: Administration Cooks the Books to Achieve Deportation Numbers

Washington, D.C. – The House Judiciary Committee has obtained internal U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) documents, which show that the Obama administration is cooking the books to achieve their so-called ‘record’ deportation numbers for illegal immigrants and that removals are actually significantly down – not up – from 2009.”

    And also,

    http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2012/02/obama-amnesty-deportations-at-record-low/

“The Obama backdoor amnesty plan is in full force, with a record amount of illegal immigrants spared from deportation and a huge increase in the number of those allowed to remain the United States.

The shift is striking, according to the nonprofit university group that obtained government records outlining the drastic change. The New York-based nonpartisan research center, Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), provides detailed information about the operation of hundreds of government agencies. Immigration is one of many areas it researches.

This week TRAC revealed that during the first three months of fiscal year 2012, cases disposed of in the nation’s immigration courts showed a serious drop in deportation orders and an increase in the number of individuals allowed to stay in the U.S. That means that individuals were ordered removed in only half of the cases, the lowest rate in the past two decades.”

“The government records also show that, among individuals determined by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to have violated immigration laws, more than one in three (34.4 percent) were allowed to stay in the U.S. This also represented a historic high, which is illustrated in a chart that includes figures for the last several years.”

  6. The number of illegal immigrants coming in from Latin America has definitely slowed since our economy is very bad and the economy of Mexico is doing better.
We are always going to have some immigration as long as there are so many jobs Americans won’t do. Americans will continue to turn up their noses at certain jobs as long as they are paid not to work and/or to fake a disability. The biggest problem over the last thirty years is that Mexicans come to the US with a great work ethic, but gradually they or their kids become “Americanized”. In other words, they become part of the 47%, living off welfare and faking disabilities.

  7. the numbers have slow because of Mr. Obama failures.. But I know those on the left will never admitt it. I listen to 740 AM in Colorado Springs, where a man from Mexico talked about how that Colorado and many of the Western States is their land and we do not have the right to remove any Mexican from their land.

  8. I wonder how soon before we start to hear the idea of the right to return from the Mexican Government in regard to the land we took from Mexico. As the result of the Mexican War.

  9. Pastor Roy, If current trends continue, it is possible to visualize a time in the not-too-distant future when Mexico may be a better home for Christians than the US. God is in control. It will be interesting to see what He has in store for us.

  10. We have seen over the past year that Christian Freedoms are being taken away. If you are a Christian and a School Teacher, you must be careful what you post on your own private Facebook page. If you express your Christian beliefs, you could be fired from your teaching position.
I believe it will only be a matter of years, before we see that expand to all aspect of life. They are going to do it all in the name of tolerances. Churches tax exempt status will be subject to follow societies on social issues not God’s Word. People will praise these all in the name of tolerances and acceptances.

I believe in the next 4 years we are going to see more open attacks on the Christian Faith and our freedom restricted. But we as Christian know that this is going to happen, because God’s Word states it., We can find strength in know that God is going to give us the strength to stand.

  12. Here is a question that I have been thinking about since the GLBT Community has put so much pressure on the sponsors of the Boy Scouts, that the Boy Scout have decide to surrender to the pressure and change their standard. What stops this group from going to Mr. Obama, who has become one of their major spokes men, and talk to him about the churches tax exempt status? An ask this question do churches that view that marriage between one man and one woman and believe that the GLBT Life Style is a sexual sin, which the GLBT Community view as hate speech, actually qualify for the Federal Tax Exempt Status? Why is the Federal Government funding hate speech and hate groups by providing Tax exempt Status for these groups? Should not group that are getting Tax Exempt Status show that they are for rights of all people? What stop them and Mr. Obama from doing this?
ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS, MSNBC, Hollywood would present this idea as being the next great thing to use to ensure that all Americans are treat fairly.

I don’t. Find juudicial watch to be credible and Rep Lamar’s view does nor seem to credit ICE’s cmmentar on counting. TRAC’s work demonstrates that there have been fewer contested deportations but does not speak to the total number of deportations.

    Roy,

Nothing would prevent people from making that argument. And I’m suure there are a few who would. But most of us, the vast majority are not interested in takin tax exemption from churches.

  14. Roy, The push will not be to take the tax exemption from all churches, only those that stand by Biblical positions. Churches will then be tempted and pressured to compromise their beliefs. As I said earlier, in twenty years Mexico may not look like a bad alternative. You may have Anglo Christians in the Southwest who would desire for their state to become a part of Mexico.

  15. that is CB does not understand they will only be targeting the Bible Believing Christian Church hoping to pressure them into surrender their faith.

  16. No Roy, I understand perfectly well what you are saying. I simply don’t see that happening with regard to tax exempt status for any church, even the fundamentalist evangelical ones.
