Prayer Requests 1-28-13

Who can we pray for today?

Or you could share a praise if you’d like.

Psalm 84:8-12

8 Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty; listen to me, God of Jacob.

9 Look on our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one.

10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

12 Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.

  1. Verse 11 of this psalm has always been one of my favorite bible verses. I wrote it on an index card long ago and memorized it in the KJV:

For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

    Love it!

  2. Prayer for Saeed Abedini, a pastor being jailed in Iran for eight years. He lives in Boise but was working over there (he is from there but converted to Christianity around ten years ago). His family is in Boise.

  3. Requesting prayer for wisdom as I engage in an online dialogue at another site where I’ve learned that the young woman I’ve been speaking with is a Mormon. She quoted a verse from the Book of Mormon, a book I have not read, and I have never witnessed to anyone in the LDS church, but want to take the opportunity now that it is before me.

  4. six Arrows, praying with you. Be forewarned that the Mormons do not have the same definitions as we have. They use similar words, but the words do not mean the same thing to both parties. Be very clear.

  5. Thanks, Mumsee. Yes, I have been finding that out: similar words/different definitions. I found some information to that effect at a site which discussed Mormon beliefs and included the thoughts of an ex-Mormon on the 13 LDS Articles of Faith:

BTW, this is the verse the person I’ve been dialoguing with included in her last post. Thoughts?

Heleman 5:12. “And now my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.”

  6. This isn’t something I’d mention when witnessing, but I’m in the middle of a book about the history of the Mormons and Joseph Smith and it baffles me how anyone who knows the background could take that “religion” seriously.

  7. I suspect Smith gets glossed over. Brigham Young, of course, was one of the great colonizers of the west who took his people there after persecution in Illinois. I’m the grandaughter and so forth, of many wonderful people who were LDS.

(And they think I’m one of them because of genealogy, boy scouts, and Bible study!)
