Prayer Requests 1-8-13

Who would like to share a request, praise, or an update?

Psalm 34:1-9

1 I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

2 My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

3 O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

9 O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

  1. Will you please pray for my friend Chris? He has been hospitalized with Pneumonia while vacationing with his family in Florida. He has many medical issues so it’s pretty scary. Please pray for Chris’s health and Doctors, as well as his Mom,Dad, and Sister. Thanks.

  2. Heavenly Father,

Please hear our prayer today for AJ’s friend Chris. He is in a very difficult situation at the moment. You know all about what he and his family are going through with his bout with pneumonia, He is in the hospital in a place away from his hometown. Lord, what a strain it is on this family to make arrangements to be there for him when it may not be in their budget. Please help to meet those needs if necessary. Please help his doctors and medical staff to make the right decisions regarding Chris’s medical issues so that he can recover enough at least to get to his home area. I pray for Christian encounters for this family during their time of need. May their faith be strengthened during this ordeal as they witness Your love in action. Thank you Lord for friends like AJ who believe in You and Your method of touching people by prayer. Long distances are not a hindrance to prayer. You, Lord, are not restrained as we are by time and distance. Thank You for Your many loving responses based on the prayers You hear for Chris this day. In Jesus’ name, Amen

  3. Amen.

2012 was a difficult year for many friends–13 lost spouses since July 1. Over 20 friends lost a close family member to death. Our church has seen some significant deaths, as well.

Today I start teaching a 9-week Bible study on the book of Job–a book selected last spring for the rotation. Most of the women in my study are widows over 70. I’m particularly sensitive to the challenge of leading this book, even with seasoned Christians.

Please pray for me–that I would be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit (always), but in particular with this study. My co-teacher was reluctant to come because she’s afraid of the book of Job.

I am not; I’m excited about the book, but wary of what may come out in discussion today.

    Thanks.

  4. Praying you feel better Mumsee, take it easy. Something is going around our office, too.

I actually was *hoping* I’d wake up with it today so I could call in and just stay home, pull the covers over my head. 😦

But alas, I feel fine. Sigh.

Work: There are just a lot of changes — oh excuse me, it’s been excitedly termed our grand “evolution” by those behind it all — continuing with more announcements coming this week, lots of abrupt changes in direction, more bosses being hired with (meaningless) titles. Of course, there are fewer and fewer of us to boss around, but I guess that doesn’t matter — or they just haven’t noticed.

I’m grumbling again. Pray for my attitude, that I can find something to work on today to keep me busy & keep my discouragement at bay!

  5. Please pray for God to set a “hedge of protection” around little Forrest when he’s with his father (as he is today). We don’t think he’s in any physical danger with him, but we do think he is in emotional/mental & spiritual danger with him.

R does not hesitate to argue with E in front of their son, including swearing & yelling at her. E remembers waking up the night before she finally left R, to hear him talking to Forrest, saying bad things about her, & how they’d be happier when she’s not there.

We suspect he may say disparaging things about E & about us to Forrest. Forrest often seems more “grumpy” when he gets home with his mommy than at other times returning home.

It scares me, & makes my heart ache, to think of the emotional/mental damage that man is doing & will do to his son.

(Without me going into details, please know that both R & his own father very much seem to be sociopaths. Please pray that this generational curse/sin will not visit itself upon this precious little boy.)

(The reason R has time to watch his son lately is because he quit another job.)

  6. Oh no! We may need to replace our two water heaters! A problem developed last night, leaving us with no hot water, & water spraying from the top of one of the water heaters. (We have two 50-gal. tanks, as this is a two-family home.)

This is a very bad time for us to have to possibly spend nearly a couple thousand dollars to replace them. Lee is employed, but making less than he did a few months ago.

He’s been filling in for some drivers “packing out” (making sure the bread & such is in good array, bringing more forward from stock if needed) on his days off to make some more money. Fortunately, those days are not long, & he does enjoy working.

  7. Michelle, I’m reading Job right now in my yearly Bible reading – it’s so confusing to me. I may need to go back and read it again.

Prayers for your study and you, and for Mumsee.

  8. I too am reading Job. A few years ago when I read it I realized for the first time that Job isn’t a “discouraging” book but an “encouraging” one. As harsh as some aspects of it are, God’s sovereignty and love shine through it. God knows His people.

  9. I never realized that Job 19:25 “As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,
And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.” was in Job! That is one encouraging verse!

  10. Yes, Cheryl, Job is encouraging. It certainly is about keeping the faith. Also, no matter how bleak we have it sometimes, there are always others who have it bleaker—consider Job, and sometimes when it seems someone always has things going their way, well, consider Job. And it gives good examples of what not to say to people who are in the midst of troubles. Lots of good reasons to learn from Job.

  11. Heavenly Father,

Today is full of challenges for many people. You are so patient to hear each and every request made in Your Son’s name. May You be glorified and thanked for each of Your answers for You know best what is needed in each situation.

Please, Lord, continue to bless AJ’s friend Chris with help with his affliction. May he be given treatment to resolve his infection. Help him to get home, along with his family, safely.

I pray for those having troubles in the workplace. Help Donna to have patience to last through these changes. Help her to concentrate on “This too shall pass,” when things seem overwhelming. I pray she will feel Your presence anytime she feels she is in the midst of enemies.

Lord, please make a way for more positive work experiences for 6 Arrows’ husband. Keep him in a positive frame of mind even with the long hours. I pray the same for my husband as long hours will be the norm during tax season. Help us wives to be devoted good helpers to our husbands.

Thank you for giving the extra work to Karen O’s husband and that he enjoys it. We all like to hear encouraging news like that. Please help him to make the additional dollars needed to cover the water heater expense.

I pray, Lord, for Mumsee as she is feeling under the weather. She has so many responsibilities that You have given her. Please make a way for her to feel like taking care of all those adorable children You have put in her home today and every day. I pray her illness will not linger or turn complicated with an infection.

Please bless Michelle with just the right words, direct from the Holy Spirit, passing through her mind and lips and into the ears of the widows. May the widows know a new level of comfort from the Holy Spirit as they consider anew the words of God in the book of Job. Please make Your presence known in the classroom so this book can be mined for all it was meant to be. I pray the co-teacher will not approach it with a feeling of fear except in the sense of reverance for it is Your holy word meant for our edification.

I ask, Lord, again, for Your divine protection over young Forrest. You are aware of the heart of his father and the potential for damage to the bonds with his family. This is such a trial for Karen O’s family. Please strengthen their faith in You. Help them to trust that You will answer their prayers for Forrest’s well-being. I pray You will give Forrest wisdom and discernment to exceed his young age so he will be able to see through any deceitfulness on his father’s part. Lord, help his tender heart to grow strong in knowledge of You as his God for all of his life. When You are on his side who can stand against him and You?

Lastly, for the moment, Lord, I pray for 4th arrow to be atuned to the studies that must be done to move along to the next level of learning. Please help 6 Arrows to be inovative in finding what works as a new motivation for 4th arrow. Lord, I know how hard it was to cover all those subjects during the school year—year after year. You made a way for us to do catch-up math every summer. Please make a way for 6 Arrows to determine priorities and find what in the world will work even if it means using a new curriculum midstream. Help her, Lord, as there is much pressure upon the homeschooling mom to be sure all the education is covered to ready the young person to go on to college or other activities in life. Please give them success at this effort.

Bless You for hearing these and all the other prayers coming at You today, Lord. You take our burdens and bear them for us. What a blessing You are to us. In the name of Jesus these people are lifted up to You. Amen

  12. Thanks for the prayers. Bible study went well and a new woman brought her husband, so we got to hear a male point of view–particularly useful in that passage where Job declares his wife a “foolish woman.” 🙂

All the comments about the book, of course, are true. I’ve been looking forward to this one for a long time.

  13. Update: We have hot water again. Yay!

Turns out that one of the water heaters was still under warranty. The other one may be, but the guy is going to look into that for us, & hold off billing us until he hears back from the company.

    Yay!
