Good morning!

What’s up?

Quote of the Day…… is a song today

“Everyday is a new day
I’m thankful for every breath I take
I won’t take it for granted
So I learn from my mistakes
It’s beyond my control, sometimes it’s best to let go
Whatever happens in this lifetime
So I trust in love
You have given me peace of mind

chorus
I feel so alive for the very first time
I can’t deny you
I feel so alive
I feel so alive for the very first time
And I think I can fly”

  1. Good morning. There is so much truth contained in this song.

We’re on the road and enjoying our trip through the south. Louisiana is beautiful.

  2. It sure is quiet here this morning.
    Everyone’s on the political thread.
Fuzzyface showed up last night. I was surprised, by his moniker, I assumed he was a kid. I had a fuzzy face quite a while before I shaved.
Turns out, he’s a grown man with kids.
    Betcha he has a beard.

  3. Big discussion in the office other than the debate is what will we do for lunch. We seem to have the same discussion every day. Yesterday the restaurant we went to had the big ad by Billy Graham on the front entry door. I was impressed that they did that. They are a popular place among the working people and serve a big crowd. It is funny that in our neighborhood it seems the yard signs are few but usually where you see an Obama sign then in the yard next to it or nearby you will see a Romney sign. I usually have a sign in our yard but I did not want to invest in one this season. One of our neighbors has an Obama sign and there is no nearby sign to counter that one. I have fallen down on my neighborhood responsibility. After all of my continuing posting of Republican signs in the past elections I think people must have a clue where we stand this second time around with B.O.

  4. Just in from doing chores with the little folk and seeing one off on the bus. Nice fog out this morning but not too thick. Looking forward to getting fingerprinting done again. Since the sheriff dept and the health and welfare are unable to share information. Sad state of affairs if you ask me. They each keep track of criminals, seems like they could have one shared database. They used to.

  5. Mumsee,

This past week spent with my wife’s family had me thinking of you and Mike often. My wife’s family is also big on adoption. 3 of her cousins, and herself, were adopted into the family. It’s a blessing to see the impact being raised by a good christian family can have on all kids, but it’s even more obvious with the adopted ones who came from some bad situations. We, and they, are thankful for it. We’re also thankful for others like yourself and Mike who do the same. You all make the world a better place for these kids. Thank you, and keep doing what you do.

  7. Chas, that’s hilarious.

And having worked for a newspaper for so many years — taking all manner of surprising/odd/rambling calls from random readers — I suppose nothing should surprise me.

  8. The comments about adoption made me realize that my family is hopefully about to have its first adoptee. My niece and her husband have 3 kids and recently applied to be foster-to-adopt parents. Within an hour of completing their requirements they had a baby,a premie born to a mother with a history of drugs. This little one had been all alone in the NICU for 2 weeks. Niece and husband immediately started visiting her–and she started gaining weight. Her first week home with her new parents and doting siblings saw her packing on the ounces! I got to snuggle with her when I was in the U.S. She was about 4 months old and was up to newborn weight, but her evaluations showed her right on track almost with her chronological age and not just her adjusted age. You can’t tell me that a good family environment can’t make a huge difference in a kid’s life! Of course now we’re all praying that nothing with go wrong with the adoption.

  9. Thanks for sharing your family’s story with adoption ajisuun….I will be praying for a successful adoption….I’ve prayed many of those prayers over the years…it is amazing how the Lord walks that path with us and how much he loves His little ones, and us…Thanks to Mumsee and Mike’s ongoing ministry to His little ones as well….
AJ….we have always explained to our kids and others who question the make up of our family…it is our Heavenly Father who puts families together…and He creates us in oh so many ways… His ways are the best!

  10. Ajisuun, Yes, a good caring family does wonders, but a child from an addicted mom often has many struggles that will not become apparent until later. Still a beloved child, but sometimes it can get scary for the parents as they wonder what became of their sweet little angel.

  12. Oh, ouch, AJ. 🙂

I’ve spent the past couple hours cleaning out and sorting through the bedroom dresser drawers and my winter sweater stockpile. I will say, for an LA girl, I have a good supply of winter sweaters.

Time for a Salvation Army run, I guess.

And someone remind me if I forget — I will never, EVER, have to buy another pair of socks for the rest of my life. 🙂 At least now they’re all matched and organized in a single drawer.

So what’s up in the news? I haven’t been watching today. … Who are they saying ‘won’ the debate, now that all the talking heads have had some time to process it? The moderator did good, no?

My phone has been ringing off the hook today and yesterday with random caller ID numbers that leave no message. Must be election stuff, I figure, or maybe it always rings this much but I’m at work and, since they don’t leave voice mails, I never know anyone called.

  13. We had lunch at a place named GRITZ which is for Girls Raised in the South (or Zouth since we are into strange spellings today). I had field peas, brocolli casserole, sweet potato souffle, and turnip greens with corn bread. I saved the corn bread for later since I was stuffed on the veggies. The place was packed so it took awhile to get served. It was worth the wait.

My new Southern Living magazine came and it made me think of Kim. They could do an article on her and up readership!

  15. Today as I was driving to the dental office with one of my children, a vehicle ahead of us had a bumper sticker that caught my eye. There was a picture of a gun, the words “Would it bother us more if they used guns?”, and the name of a website:

    http://www.abort73.com

Powerful website I hadn’t heard of before. Check it out.

  16. Kim, I was meaning that you are so aware of all things southern, and you have some great recipes which are always a big part of the magazine. You also know real estate, and I assume from that that you know a lot about local attractions. I totally meant it in only a good way. The issue I received has all the Thanksgiving food and I was reminded of you because of your wonderful Cranberry Stuff recipe.

  17. Yes to the cornbread dressing.

My mom just called today asking if anyone had discussed where Thanksgiving was going to be this year. I’ll tell her Kim’s in Alabama. 😉

  18. Kare2012, haven’t heard Christmas music yet although I am seeing LOTS of Christmas stuff out in the stores already. And I recently came across some Christmas boxes as part of my home reorganization! 🙂

  19. I love Christmas music – especially TSO!
I think Silent Night is my favourite carol – Kate Miner does the best version, but David Crowder band has one where you just want to get up and dance at the end. (Remember I grew up Mennonite Brethren – we don’t dance).

Hope you like it as much as I do.

  20. Ree, I always thought the call was real but that the caller may have been pulling the radio hosts’ legs. I just checked Snopes, which documents that this really happened.

    http://www.snopes.com/humor/letters/deercrossing.asp

It says that “in a follow-up interview…she thanked the radio hosts for being so nice to her during her previous call and professed that she ‘never really thought about it enough to realize that I was kind of being ridiculous.'” The Snopes article has links to both the original call (the one Chas posted) and the follow-up call.

I’m not placing any bets on whether or not she was serious.

  21. I meant to mention that the first subject of the Snopes article was about a letter to the editor expressing the same complaint about deer crossings, but went on to relate the more recent phone call to the radio station.

  22. Perhaps some of you saw this already. Mrs L saw it on Facebook (where else?)

  23. Ree,

If you are using the https in the web address for this site, the video will not show up. YouTube videos don’t have security certificates so they won’t show up. If you remove the s and use http in the address you can see what IE calls “unsecure content”. That’s anything without a certificate. It took me awhile and alot of reading to figure that out.

  24. Wow, it’s just too weird to be true. Pretty funny, though.

Thanks, AJ, but I didn’t have trouble viewing the video. I just had trouble believing the caller was for real!
