Life Matters 10-5-12

Here are some recent stories of possible interest to pro-lifers.

From LifeNews, and hardly surprising,

“The Obama administration is suing the state of Arizona and claiming that its new law revoking taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business runs afoul of federal laws.

The Whole Woman’s Health Funding Priority Act of Arizona (HB 2800) de-funded abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood of state family planning money. The bill is based on model legislation developed by the SBA List and the Alliance Defense Fund, and prioritizes family planning funds away from abortion-centered businesses like Planned Parenthood to entities that provide women with comprehensive health care.

The measure prohibits the state or any local government from using public money to contract with an organization that includes abortions.”

Also this from LifeSiteNews, as if we needed another reason to dislike the UN.

“The recently re-appointed UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, Navanethem Pillay, has issued a document calling for governments to criminalize organised opposition to abortion by non-governmental groups such as pro-life lobbyists or even family members. The UN Human Rights Council published its “technical guidance” to address maternal mortality and morbidity in July, to “assist policymakers in improving women’s health and rights.”

The document starts from the abortion industry’s assertion that the best way to reduce maternal mortality is to introduce legalised abortion and reduce legal and other restrictions on abortion. Under the “rights-based” approach to women’s health care, the document says, states are “obliged” to use “maximum available resources” to “protect against interference with sexual and reproductive health rights by third parties by enforcing appropriate laws, policies, regulations and guidelines.””

And this, from Reuters, who seems to provide lots of details from the pro-abortion side, but very little from those opposed to it.

“Morocco blocked a Dutch “abortion ship” from entering one of its harbours on Thursday during a campaign group’s first attempt to visit to a Muslim country to raise awareness about safe methods of abortion.

The Women on Waves ship, which already has visited traditionally Roman Catholic countries Spain, Portugal and Ireland at the invitation of local women’s groups, had planned to arrive at Smir, northern Morocco, but was denied entry.

“The harbor is totally blocked by warships so no one can get in, and there are a lot of police here,” said Marlies Schellekens, a doctor from Women on Waves who had gone on shore.”

Like most pro-lifers, I was disturbed by the behavior at the DNC on the issue of abortion. To say they embraced it would be an understatement. I found it unsettling to see so many speakers not only advocate for it, but also speak of it like it was such a great and noble thing. There is nothing great or noble about it. It ends a human life. That’s tragic, and there is nothing noble about it. I would think that regardless of your view on abortion, we could all at least agree that it is sad that it occurs, and that we as a society would want to at least ensure that as few as possible take place. Sadly, after watching the convention, the error of that idea is apparent. One side has embraced it, along with the practitioners of it, and they seem proud of it as well. The fact that life has so little value to them is troubling. And heartbreaking.

With all that in mind, I’d like to share some new stats that have come out. As sad as these stats are, the fact that life has little meaning or value to some is what I find saddest of all. We as a society should be ashamed, and yet many embrace this as a good and noble thing, the President being one of them.

From LifeNews

“The new city numbers, from 2009, show 87,273 abortions in New York City two years ago — numbers that are higher than the abortion figures of every state except California. If miscarriages are taken out of the equation, 48 percent of pregnancies of women in the Bronx end in abortion, 38 percent of Manhattan women opt for an abortion, as do 32 percent of women living on Staten Island.

Of the 225,667 pregnancies in new York City in 2009, 126,774 babies were born and there were 11,620 miscarriages.

The figures showed black women had the highest number of abortions, with 40,798, while Hispanics had the second highest number, 28,364.”

These numbers by themselves are bad enough. But it actually gets worse. Take a look at the number of repeat abortions. Whether you support birth control or not, everyone knows there are numerous methods out there to prevent pregnancy. In fact, the groups who do abortions are also the places you can get birth control from in many cases. There is just no excuse for this.

Also from LifeNews

““The data, which was provided by the New York City Department of Health at the Chiaroscuro Foundation’s request, show the abortion rate by the zip code of residence of women receiving abortions in New York City,” the organization noted. “The zip code with the highest ratio, 10018, is in the Chelsea-Clinton neighborhood of Manhattan, with a ratio of 67%, followed by rates of 60% in two Jamaica, Queens zip codes and in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, 10012, and Central Harlem-Morningside Heights neighborhoods.””

“The Chiaroscuro Foundation also asked for information from the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene about the number of repeat abortions and it found that, in 2009, 48,627 of the 87,273 abortions in New York City, or 56%, were repeat abortions and 33,401, 38%, were paid for by Medicaid.”

It’s not safe, it shouldn’t be legal, and it certainly isn’t rare. It’s not something we should be proud of or supporting. It’s time one side stops acting like it is.

Clear Contrasts

Could the stark differences between political parties be any clearer than this? I don’t think so. For me, the choice is obvious.

The links below are from a site that I highly recommend to anyone who is pro-life.  http://www.lifenews.com/

“Republicans at the 2012 GOP convention approved yet another solidly pro-life platform on the issue of abortion, which retains the language supporting a Human Life Amendment to the Constitution that has been a part of it since 1980.”

“Faithful to the “self-evident” truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life. We oppose the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.”

Democrats on the other hand….

“Democrats at the 2012 Democratic National Convention are set to approve a platform today that is unambiguously pro-abortion and opposes any effort whatsoever to stop any abortions. The platform also calls on forcing Americans to pay for abortions at taxpayer expense.”

“The Democratic Party has already turned back efforts by pro-life Democrats to moderate its pro-abortion position and add any language to its platform showing it welcomes Democrats who oppose abortion. As LifeNews has reported, the Democratic National Committee has officially rejected an effort by pro-life Democrats to get the party to include them in its platform that calls for keeping unlimited abortions legal and paid for at taxpayer expense.”

Like I said, clear contrasts. Maybe if one party wasn’t so beholden to the money provided by abortion groups, and don’t kid yourselves, that’s blood money, they might be less inclined to always side with the groups who end lives before they ever have a chance to really begin. It’s sad, and a great shame upon our nation.

UPDATE

Well abortion is most certainly in the Dem platform, God however? Yeah, not so much. Looks like He has been edited out. Faith is still there, but only one paragraph, but references to God have been removed. I hope the folks at CBN just missed it and it is there and this is inaccurate, but yet I’m not really surprised if it’s true.
