Mitch isn’t the only one; Chuck Grassley should have quit years ago. In the Canadian Senate (which is appointed) the retirement age is 75. The Democrats have several above that age who also should think about retiring
Didn’t actual listen to Rice but I know the general consensus among both activists Democrats and the DLC types is they didn’t investigate and prosecute the grift and corruption of Trump’s first term enough. The DLC types saw Trump as an aberration and wanted a return to Uni-party status quo. They now agree with the activists that more should have been done — especially given in the examples in Brazil, South Korean and other countries after a right wing populists leaves office.
Bannon and his ilk know this and have been amplifying the message that they can’t let the Democrats back in power because they will investigate. Bannon is scared (and should be). He exaggerates the Democrats threat to include the NT Republicans while in truth the DLC will be fine to restore the status quo — just sacrifice Bannon and a few others. Bannon on the other hand will try to shore up party unity ahead of the mid terms.
The message from Finke and the post in general was confusing. I think their concern was adult verification would be used to prevent LGBQT kids from accessing information but those who posted this on X seem to insinuate they want to let LGBQT access “adult” sites (hinting towards porn). A lot of ambiguity from both sides here. In the end it doesn’t matter, adult verification is a farce.

“The interview California doesn’t want you to see just dropped.
@C__Herridge asked LA schools how many employees have sexually abused students. Their response? “File a public records request.”
Here’s what they’re hiding:
An estimated 8 million students, 17%, have been abused by teachers, coaches, and staff.
In California alone, lawyers have identified over 350 predators. They don’t get fired. They get transferred. Unions block reporting laws. Parents never know.
“SPECIAL INVESTIGATION: Top Attorney Claims “Epidemic of Sexual Abuse” in California Public Schools by Teachers, Coaches, or School Employees And Reveals That New Data Estimates 17% of Students Nationwide Will Face Sexual Misconduct During Their Public Education
This week on Straight to the Point I sat down with a leading Attorney John Manly, who represented victims of USA Olympic Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar.
Manly alleges that powerful teachers unions and failures in mandatory reporting requirements are enabling widespread sexual abuse by “passing the trash,” a practice in which he says problematic teachers are quietly reassigned after allegations rather than being fired and prosecuted.
Straight to the Point: Sexual Abuse Epidemic in Public Schools
The tariff decision was entirely predictable. I thought it would be 7 – 2, Alito was a bit of a surprise. A tariff is a tax and tax increases ultimately is the responsibility and privilege of the legislature.
Kavanaugh lays out a way for Trump to keep the tariffs — but it remains to see if the other justices will agree with his road map.
Tariffs as industrial policy have their place but they are a (hidden) sales tax and thus should be decided by the legislature. The Trump admin needs to work with Johnson and others to get their tariff plan passed. However, i think the paleo-cons in the admin need/want tariffs not as instrument of industrial policy but as means to generate revenue to replace the top bracket income tax.
I don’t dismiss legitimate concerns and accusations but I’ve taught middle school long enough to know there’s a lot to unpack when you read about accusations, reports, etc
I tried to listen to the lawyer in the LA school video but he gave me the impression of ambulance chasing. From what I could hear the “estimated” 17% refers to psycho, social, emotion, physical and sexual abuse. That’s a huge catchment and definition; the focus of the interview of course was sexual. And of course “estimated” makes me wonder — where did they get the actual data — since as the interview and the X post point out, it’s hard to get actual numbers, for obvious reasons. (Incidentally it’s usually harder to get numbers from private schools than public)
Accusations are up everywhere. Everything from actual abuse to “I’m uncomfortable” is being reported. I’ve even heard teachers being told not to give 69% as a grade because it would leave the wrong impression — just round to 70% and avoid problems. Admin and school boards are extremely quick to settle with students and parents leaving the union to protect the staff. I wonder of the 350 cases this lawyer settled, how many were sexual abuse and how many were the school boards just trying to make things go away.
As for “taking out the trash” — transfers happen for a lot of different reasons (as they do in any work place). The most frequent is differences between admin and a teacher, disputes over assignment, etc. In my own career, I was transferred because of an admin/teacher dispute. A dozen years later, I transferred myself because of admin. Colleagues I know who faced accusations but were exonerated took the boards offer of a transfer because they were embarrassed and didn’t want to explain things to parents and students (the board and admin are not helpful in this department). Point is — transfers occur for various reasons and “taking out the trash” is rarely the one.
Anyway, I thought I’d offer my sceptical perspective based on my years in middle school. I might add, its these accusations that have led the number of male teachers to be at an all time low.
Sad, but true….
