  1. “The gold standard for ending a shutdown has been a clean continuing resolution…That is what the Republicans have passed in the House, that is what they sent to the Senate, and that is what Senate Democrats have blocked using the filibuster.”

@brithume weighs in on whether the government shutdown is any closer to ending as Democrats and unions weigh in.”

    14 times they’ve blocked it.

Time to nuke ’em, end the filibuster and move on.

  2. “CNN is SHOCKED after learning Republican approval rating SKYROCKETS during Chuck Schumer’s shutdown…BRUTAL.

“It’s actually UP 5 POINTS since pre-shutdown! The Republican brand HAS IMPROVED!” 🤯

    “Up 8 POINTS among Independents!”

“Up 12 points with the base!”

“[The shutdown] is helping them with folks in the middle!”

If I’m Chuck, I am TERRIFIED.”

  3. Mamdani is really scaring the billionaire class and the propaganda is coming fast and furious.

He appears to be speaking about how to make the Palestinian struggle relevant to working class New Yorkers. And he’s right the NYPD and the IDF have links. Many urban police in the US are trained by the IDF in terms of riot control, surveillance, etc. This isn’t a conspiracy. I don’t think these comments will be shocking to the average New Yorker.

Similarly, he’s correct to say police and prisons don’t make things safer, they just hide the problem. America has the highest imprisonment rate by far in the OECD, yet is far more violent than the average OECD country. The police, the national guard, ICE etc will not change things.

  4. From what I understand 40% of SNAP recipients are children, another 10-15% are disabled. Does it really matter where they came from? I just checked —about 35-37% of recipents are white and about 26% are African American. Hispanics only count for 16% of recipients. And as I’m sure you are aware illegal migrants aren’t eligible for SNAP.

Stop looking for scapegoats and ask why do working class Americans need SNAP while working? Approximately 70% of working age recipients are actually working.

During a gov’t shutdown, $40 billion was found for Argentina — mostly to bail out large corporations who invested in economic policies (DOGE on steriods) that were bound to fail. Socialism for the corporations but starve the American kids — no money for SNAP during a shutdown.

And no the Treasury recovering $2 billion after the election isn’t winning; that’s a 38 billion loss.

  5. Not sure where CNN gets there numbers

looking at RealClear polling aggregates; on Oct 1, the Democrats were at 46.1% and yesterday they were at 45.6%. More or less the same. The Republicans started the shutdown at 42.8 and currently sit at 43.2. More or less the same. Interestingly for the first two weeks it looked bad for the Democrats but they have since recovered.

Some things working against the Republicans — they could use the “nuclear” option but don’t, why not? Bailing out Argentina but not SNAP is not America first, as ACA premiums rise, the big beautiful bill will make the polls ugly, and finally, the Republican caucus is imploding. Johnson can barely keep things together
