Tychicus I don’t know if this would be on the route you are thinking of but we attended family camp here every Labor Day weekend while raising our kids. It is under new ownership but it appears you can book facilities for retreats… they are a Christian group. In Westcliffe in the Sangre DeCristo mountains.
Good late afternoon! Son is home so I have not been on here as much. I am still adjusting to life without Miss Bosley. I just feel real tired, I guess from recovering from the stress lately. Son has stayed busy working on projects for school so he is here in the background, and I fix food for when he breaks from his intense work sessions.
It is too hot for being outside except for early or late, when the sun hides it’s shine.
Janice – It will take a while to adjust to life without Miss Bosley. She was such a big part of your every day life. Give yourself time, and room to grieve.
We had a Senior luncheon and program after church. ‘Tis the season to eat BBQ. It was catered by Old Hickory House, a favorite place where we get breakfast.
We had a program by a singer who tried to make it in Nashville, but missed it by a hair. He was in the top ten of one competition and performed an audition for Dolly P. He is a really good singer and had a great testimony.
Unfortunately, Art was the only man at our table, and we knew none of the ladies so that felt a little awkward. I do fine in a ladies group like that, but Art had nothing in common except we all could relate to being hungry and being one of the last tables to be called to get our food. I joked that maybe they wanted us to sing for our dinner.
I gave the sermon at church today, and spoke from Matthew 14 about Peter walking on the water. In getting ready I found a message from a Baptist pastor named Lowell Johnson. In one part he asks: Why did Peter request to walk on the water?
His answers:
He wasn’t trying to be a show-off.
Not so he could show the other disciples what a sensational feat he could perform.
Not because he wanted to have and enjoy an unusual experience.
No. He wanted to walk on water so he could be with Jesus.
He asked permission: “Lord, bid (command) me come to you on the water.”
And the Lord said, “Come.” Jesus confirmed the request as acceptable.
Once when a man requested some great thing of Alexander the Great that request was instantly granted. When questioned as to why the request was so quickly granted, Alexander said the request honored him because it was such a great request. The greatness of Peter’s request honored the Lord.
Peter got out of the boat and started walking on the water. He was so focused on Jesus, he didn’t even see the wind and waves!
Mrs. L pointed out she’s never heard anyone explain the why.
My husband spent 3 hours picking beans this afternoon. Then I spent 3 hours snipping the ends. Tomorrow we shall pickle and blanch/freeze them all.
We also had a lunch after church. Taco in a bag, but since husband can’t eat that, we just hung around chatting and eating the watermelon.
Had a baptism this morning at church. A young mother, previously addicted to alcohol and drugs (very prevalent in our community). She wrote a beautiful poem as part of her testimony.
Good afternoon. Does anyone know of any possible retreat options (especially for missionaries) generally between Los Angeles and South/Central Texas?

I’ve been trying to get things done around here before heading north to meet old neighbors for dinner. It is hot here today!

The guys in my husband’s jam group often joke they sing for food. Honestly, they are easily persuaded with baked goods or pot luck food.

I believe this is the lowest number of comment for a weekend thread. We’re either all too busy, or melting in the heat.
