  1. Posting issues continue. I have an event to attend with a friend today. Art continues to slug away at the remaining piles of work.

This morning in my Bible reading in Job, we arrived at chapter 28 entitled in my Bible, A Hymn to Wisdom. I’ve read Job several times but never noticed that odd chapter stuck in there. It is beautifully worded. I wondered if it was written before Solomon asked for wisdom. It sounds so much like Proverbs.

  2. Good morning. Interestingly, I was coming on this morning to ask about wisdom. Specifically wisdom in Proverbs. Who or what is wisdom? Might it be the Holy Spirit? Something else? Now I need to go look at Job 28.

  3. It is always interesting to notice what we seemed to have missed before. One of the benefits of reading through the whole bible multiple times is seeing all connections between the books or the OT and the NT and seeing the threads that run from Genesis to Revelation. What an amazing book! That shouldn’t amaze us, as our God is amazing.

  4. Amazing indeed! Good morning World!

28  And he said to man,

‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,

and to turn away from evil is understanding.’

  5. KJV: God possessed wisdom from the beginning, before creation in Prov 8:22. Brought forth in following verses.

NASB: wisdom was created, from eternity established. Was born in 24,25.

ESV: possessed at the beginning of His work, first of His acts of old and then brought forth in the following verses.

in the Nicene Creed, the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son.

That is why I asked your thoughts and learning.

  6. Jesus told his disciples he had to return to the Father, so that the Holy Spirit would be sent to them. Perhaps that was the thinking? I have a whole book on heresy that discusses many of the arguments in the fighting over creeds, whether the Nicene or the Apostle’s Creed. I read it years ago, though, and surely don’t remember all the nuances. I know people died for all those nuances.

  7. I know almost nothing about the creeds and catechisms which is why I got the liurgical reading for our study. It includes the Apostle’s creed, the Nicene and Athanasian creeds as well as selections from Heidelberg and Westminster Shorter Catechisms. I welcome positive and negative feedback on any of them. We are entering a whole new room of resources here.

  8. Also reading a book on Creeds, Confessions, and Catechisms. I believe we can learn from those who have gone before while realizing they are all imperfect people. Roscuro, where are you?

  9. I’ve always loved the first question of the Westminster shorter catechism, it’s so … I don’t know, glorious and all-life-encompassing:

    Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?

    A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

  10. And how do we glorify God? It tells us in John 17, with Jesus’s example. “I glorified You on the earth by accomplishing the work which You have given me to do.”

  11. I love that one too, DJ. It says everything while leaving the details blank. I suppose the details are for other questions. But it’s encouraging to know the beginning and the end– why we’re here and how it ends when we are his.

  12. I love that one, too, Dj. It is a big part of why I do my little daily haiku on what I see in nature. I share the beauty in nature, His creation, and give a statement of gratitude recognizing Him as Creator. Many in the poetry world tend to worship nature. I hope in a small and unobtrusive way to turn their hearts to think on God as Creator so He gets due glory.

There are innumerable ways we can give God glory, but of course, some ways are more valuable than others.

  13. I went with my friend to Church of the Apostles where the pastor, Dr. Michael Youssef, also leader of the radio ministry, Leading the Way, was receiving an award for service from the White Rose Society. That was originally a group of students and a professor in Germany who were stirring up resistance to Hitler and his treatment of the Jews. They were all killed.

Today’s program included a speaker from the White Rose Society, the Israeli Consulate General for the SE USA, a local rabbi, and Dr. Yourself. A stand up luncheon followed with catered Israeli type food (my first stuffed grape leaves). My friend still was up for lunch at Carraba’s afterwards, so I brought a meal for Art and leftovers from my meal. I am stuffed rounder than those grape leaves!

  14. Interesting after third son was in Puerto Rico for the island wide power outage. Eldest son had to go to LA from his Denver home for business. On flight home was rerouted to Grand Junction, then flew to Denver. Flew to Newark yesterday was a mess. On the way to Madrid which has a major power outage along with Portugal. Anyway, kept on the plane for seven hours due to a maintenance problem, then canceled. And now a ground hold on all flights in and out of NY air space. Pray for son and others.
