    One furloughed contractor I spoke to worked in the Bureau for Inclusive Growth, Partnerships, and Innovation with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. She told me her department helped local communities build their own infrastructure so that they could wean off of USAID funding. But she said shuttering the entire agency could counter long-term strategic goals.

    One American USAID employee in Northern Africa cited projects he worked on that boosted local economies across Africa to block Russian and Chinese influence in the region.

That was not a USAID thing,” he said, referring to diversity, equity, and inclusion policies that Trump has worked to eliminate. “If a president doesn’t like the policy, they can reform it. Why take out one of your best foreign policy tools and cede the ground to our worst competitors?” ~~~

  10. Why the heck do we care as long as she is getting the job done CNN and Megan??? And the “reporter” states she is doing it because she thinks the President likes it??? Really? Did she tell you that Ms Reporter? Sheesh!

    And as much as USAID is concerned why are we building homes, providing food, clothing, medical care , education etc for citizens in other countries? Especially when we don’t even help our own? Oh yes that money is earmarked for those in our country illegally! Has anyone noticed homeless encampments in every town in this country? How about those foreign countries step it up and figure out how to manage their country on their dime while we are trying to figure out our own!! Nj

    The difference between how much money the US brought in vs how much it spent, means that in March the US budget deficit was $161 billion.   15. I don’t think USAID is dead, but it’s been severely cut—and rightly so. Hasn’t it been put under the control and oversight of Marco Rubio at the State department? That seems to be a better way to provide actual aid in our use of ‘soft power’ rather than have it independent of the State department which is actually charged with carrying our foreign agenda to other countries. Having USAID independent of that effort made it vulnerable to being used for politically subversive policies, as we have seen. It’s my opinion that the people complaining are just not in sync with our current foreign policy.
