“VDH weighs in on the LA fires: “It’s something like a DEI Green New Deal hydrogen bomb — the alarming symptoms of a society gone mad.”
An incisive, two-minute breakdown of the political and ideological issues that led to this disaster:
“It was a total systems collapse from the idea of not spending money on irrigation, storage, water, fire prevention and forest management, a viable insurance industry, a DEI hierarchy, you put it all together and it’s something like a DEI Green New Deal hydrogen bomb.”
“Gavin Newsom was fiddling, he’s almost Nero Newsom. And this has been something that is just unimaginable.”
“The systems breakdown. And to finish, what we’re seeing in California is a state with 40 million people. And yet the people who run it feel that it should return to a 19th century pastoral condition. They are de-civilizing the state and de-industrializing the state and de-farming the state. But they’re not telling the 40 million people that their lifestyles will have to revert back to the 19th century, when you had no protection from fire.”
“You didn’t have enough water in California. You didn’t have enough power. You didn’t pump oil. So we are deliberately making these decisions not to develop energy, not to develop a timber industry, not to protect the insurance industry, not to protect houses and property. And we’re doing it in almost a purely nihilistic fashion.”
“And Karen Bass should resign. She came to the airport back from Africa. She had nothing to say. She was confronted at the airport. Why were you in Africa? Why did you cut the fire department? They cut the fire department by almost $18 million. They gave fire protective equipment to Ukraine’s first responders. And she had nothing to say. She had nothing to say because she couldn’t say anything.”
“I don’t want to be too pessimistic or bleak tonight, but this is one of the most alarming symptoms of a society gone mad.”
“And if this continues, and if this were to spread to other states, we would become a third world country if we’re not in parts already.”
I’m heavy hearted over what’s happening in California with the fire and heavy winds, and praying especially for the believers there. Whatever the cause, the destruction of churches, homes, livelihoods, nature and landmarks, and most importantly, lost lives is grievous. These fires happen every year to some extent. I have always thought it’s God’s mercy when the fires don’t engulf heavily populated areas and cause more loss of life and livelihood. This time it seems worse.
The thinking of Californian politicians is like a foreign country to me; incomprehensible. I think they do some things well, but it’s obvious that there is some serious and pervasive malfunction or corruption. In general, I don’t like to kick people when they are down or in the midst of an emergency because it seems cruel, but sometimes it’s the only time you can get their attention. I hope they are paying attention now.
President-elect Donald Trump was sentenced without any penalties Friday in his New York criminal hush money case, 10 days before his inauguration for a second White House term.
Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan sentenced Trump to “unconditional discharge,” meaning no jail, no probation and no fine.
it was a farce from the beginning but everyone knows that. I hope the lot of them realize impactful repercussions on their lives due to their evil intent.
Concerning the fires and the government throwing money to CA. It will be interesting to note the difference with which this will be handled as opposed to the victims continuing to languish in NC and TN. There will be no hiding the disparity. Tragic all around but there should be no preferential treatment for one over another…there will be.
It’s almost become ritualised in an era of extreme disasters that commentators will blame whatever political and/or social position they dislike. Hence you have right wing commentators blaming DEI, Green New Deal, smelt, native land claims, salmon run, etc. At some point it just gets ludicrous
On the left, many have noted the cut in the LA fire department was made to increase LAPD funding. A valid point really. As is the ridiculous fact that over 25% of the fire fighters are convicts who are barely paid (and who can’t be firefighters when released because they are felons). It’s obvious that the infrastructure has been rationed for too long.
Another points to the use of water for wealthy corporations depleting the reservoir. Although I like calling out billionaires for hogging the resources, the reservoirs are emptied by irrigation to farm in areas where its not a good idea. And from the news, it appears there’s enough water. Fire hydrant pressure works on the idea that you use one or two hydrants at a time — when you use all of them at once, the pressure drops so low, water has trouble coming out.
However, the left has been consistent — its climate change. Hurricanes, heat, and now fire — the left sees climate change behind everything else. Over use of resources and a decline in infrastructure are an issue but climate change is the underlying problem.
Thinking Americans scoff at climate change being the boogeyman. It’s mismanagement of forest, failure to secure water resources, and gross mismanagement of it all by Democrats as well as obstruction of common sense measure by enviroterrorist groups like the Sierra Club. To suggest otherwise is laughable.
“Now would be a good time to remember that every single eucalyptus tree in San Francisco is invasive and wildly flammable, but the city has been blocked from culling them by busybodies like the @SierraClubCA (who also lobbied to stop prescribed burns in Los Angeles to tragic effect).”
“Some reporters and scientists are blaming climate change for the lack of rain in LA. It’s ridiculous. There’s no trend in annual rainfall from 1877 to 2024. We have wet years and dry years.
Climate change isn’t responsible for the LA fires. Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass are.”
“The Pacific Palisades reservoir was EMPTY AND OFFLINE when the firestorm exploded, per LA Times
This is CRIMINAL.
The reservoir holds 117 million gallons of water, and would’ve given firefighters ample pressure to effectively fight the blaze.
Overpaid Dept. of Water and Power officials have now been forced to admit the reservoir being offline likely contributed to dry fire hydrants and low water pressure.
“Years of drought? The last two years in Los Angeles were the wettest in a century. Do you people not know how to look at data or do you just ignore the data that doesn’t fit your narrative?
“Mainstream media wants to blame climate change for insurance companies not covering damage caused by LA wildfires, but the real blame lies in Democrat policies:Tom Ellsworth: “State Farm said last year we’re not renewing 69% of the homes we insure currently today in Palisades. Why?
Because the county of L.A. and the city of L.A. had suspended brush removal in Palisades. This comes down to the county.”
You can blame climate change: A bureaucratic climate that changed after Democrats added red tape.
“Coming to the rescue of the LAFD, Canadian Fire Department planes chose to drop seawater since ‘refilling’ is more efficient, in contrast with the LAFD strategy to drop ‘red retardant’:
“The red retardant they drop is a slurry, crews drop it around the edge of a fire. The rub is that it takes some time to refill those planes.”
“Aerial firefighting crews from Quebec, British Columbia Canada have been on the frontlines.
Why with water shortages in LA, don’t firefighters use water from the Pacific Ocean? These crews actually are.
They’ve been landing their CL-415 Sea planes on the ocean, scooping up water, making a drop, then doing it all over again. These Canadians pilots are very experienced.”
Congratulations California government, you’re crazier and more incompetent than Commie Canada.
Californian ‘leadership’ cannot understand the caveman level basic concept of ‘bring the water to the fire’.
LAFD chose not to drop saltwater even as a last resort to save thousands of burning buildings due to ‘environmental concerns’, but will drop Red phosphorous which is debatably worse for the environment than saltwater.
Make it make sense? I can’t, this is Democrat run California.”
People are loathe to use seawater because of the salt and what it does to the fertility of the soil
However, if the choice is between seawater and no water and the house is burning down, sensible people choose seawater.
On Tuesday, there were planes using seawater.
But planes cannot fly safely in 100 mph winds.
There’s also a problem with the drone fools flying into the airspace during a disaster.
I’m not a fan of the behavior on Tuesday (our whole family is shaken because my nephew lost his home and three other homes currently are in evacuation warnings—1 block south of the mandatory evacuation lines), but I understand some of what happened.
In addition, during our terrible 2027 fires, the water tank at the top of the hill was dry pretty much by the time the fire trucks got there.
What if you realized a fire was coming at your house? Wouldn’t you turn on the sprinklers?
The home owners and some fire trucks, ran it dry early in the fire storm.
P,G, and E, of course, turned off the power and the pumps couldn’t refill the water tower.
An entire empty reservoir? Well, that’s another issue.
Also, there hadn’t been any rain in months in LA.
Lots of things went wrong here. It looks like Hiroshima without the nuclear issues.
In my great-niece’s 27-child kindergarten class, 23 lost their homes.
The grief, trauma, horror, devastation and confusion, is profound.
Even wealthy people and their children are human.
Please pray. My family— and I live 400 miles away— is changed for good by this tragedy.
Our greater family throughout the world is changed, concerned, and I’m the one keeping everyone up-to- date.
~ “However, the left has been consistent — its climate change. Hurricanes, heat, and now fire — the left sees climate change behind everything else. Over use of resources and a decline in infrastructure are an issue but climate change is the underlying problem.” ~
When I first read it, I took it as kind of mocking the left for blaming everything on climate change, but now I am not sure if the whole paragraph is referring to that. Can you enlighten us?
It’s not ultimately the climate change, but the people who are causing the climate change.
Get rid of the people causing the climate change, and the problem is solved. Let the ruling elite survive, and let them who know best rule over their perfected earth.
Somehow, me thinks this is the mentality the far left has bought into. They do not believe in God and value people as His creation and as made in His image for His purposes.
Creating a situation for massive unstoppable fires is an easy way to get rid of people fast.
Not implying anyone was intentional in creating this whole scenario, but just saying it is not beyond the dreams and scope of imagination of ones who like to see massive destruction that moves a lot of people out of the picture. Many won’t return.

“Los Angeles Fire Department chief Kristin Crowley turns on Los Angeles leadership, says they failed her.
Remarkable interview.
Crowley called out the city for having no water in the Santa Ynez Reservoir.
Reporter: “Did the city of Los Angeles fail you and your department?”
Crowley: “It’s my job to stand up as a chief and exactly say what the fire department needs.”
Reporter: “Did they fail you?”
Crowley: “Yes.”
They’re turning on each other.”
