Good morning, all, on yet another beautiful predawn day. Husband and son return today from a quick trip to Montana as husband ventures into the land of VA.
Funny story for the day: A friend told me her SIL was traveling to Ill. from here and was going to stay overnight at her other daughter’s and SIL’s home about three hours south. He had to park a bit down the street from the house because of the trailer he was pulling with his truck. He had a whole bunch of items to carry with both his arms but managed to knock on the man door on the garage. He didn’t hear anyone, but opened the door and walked in. He was just thinking they must have bought something new, when a stranger walked into the garage from the door that led into the main house.
The SIL asked, “Who are you?” and the stranger asked, “WHO are YOU?” A short discussion gave quick understanding, fortunately. SIL does tell the stranger that he did bring supper, too, since his wife had sent a casserole with him. They have a good laugh over it.
One thinks of the people who are trigger happy. Of course, the SIL did knock, and the homeowner must have heard him. Also, he did have both arms full.
My other thought is that if this guy had been a few years older, everyone would have accused his age as the problem. That is the same thing with accidents. Sometimes age or dementia is a problem, but often we do these things when younger and think nothing of it.
Waking up to a snow covered forest and thankful for the beauty of it all! ❄️ It shall be melted away by this afternoon!
And before I lifted my head from my pillow this is what was on my heart: Be exalted, O God Above the Heavens Let Thy glory, let Thy glory Let Thy glory be over all the Earth❤️
As I was sipping my coffee I opened my emails and found a fraudulent charge alert from our CC company. Nonplussed I contacted them and will now receive new card and number….I have never viewed nor charged anything from Overstock! It is rather curious this has only ever happen to us twice. Both times after traveling back east and charging gas which husband just did recently.
Kathaleena, true point about age becoming the go-to for any human misstep. As you said, sometimes it is age, but not always.
Chilly morning here so the heater is going on again, I just need to remember to turn it off in an hour or two, otherwise the gas bills are shocking in a bad way.
We have a final offer from management, waiting for the union to announce a zoom meeting to discuss details, but it sounds like we will avert a strike, thankfully. And we will see the first raises of any kind we’ve had in well over a decade. Amazing. We’ve been so beaten down for so long I don’t think it has even sunk in yet.
One of our young and gifted freelancer photographers – who’s been running around for us, day or night he was ready, since he was in high school and is now in college – recently was telling me he’s not sure journalism is a wise major anymore, but it’s what he really feels called to do. I get that; maybe coupled with a good minor like Public Administration so he can segue into government or something else might be at least a wise choice. Or maybe marry “up”?
People still need to do something that will support themselves and a family in the future and anymore journalism isn’t it. It never paid a lot, but in the past paid enough to provide a basic income.
But those Dodgers — what a great game and series. Looks like the parade will probably be Friday.
I always wind up feeling sorry for the losing teams (and even friends who support a losing candidate with all their heart and soul), though, it’s tough after so much hard effort. Guess my mom taught me that, to mourn with those who mourn. A sports or election loss will pass, but it still stings and is hard. We’ve all been there. 😦
Yes, husband is getting snow in Montana. Can’t leave until after appt this afternoon. Looks like it is supposed to snow there for the rest of the weekend.
Trainer sent several pics throughout the day — getting her into the car was not smooth, she said, but trainer managed in order to make a few stops. She said Abby was very relaxed once out of the car, loved the thick grass at one of the parks overlooking the ocean, was sniffing out the horses at the other place they stopped.
Trainer said she (trainer) just sat with Abby for a while on the ground and Abby was very chill, enjoying the new surroundings (and Abby gave her a kiss).
But as for her getting into the car, there’s been no magic bullet I’m afraid – trainer told me to just keep trying and to call her if she could help, but I had the feeling she felt we’ve done what we can and ? time will tell. Trainer did think a 2nd dog might be a good idea for Abby.
So that’s it for now. I’ll keep trying with the car but not feeling hopeful, this has been pretty much a full year’s effort with only modest and occasional success, nothing consistent. So we’re left with neighborhood walks, play and some training time in the backyard when I have time … 😦 A pretty limited existence which makes me sad, but it’s all we’ve got for now.
(The ‘field trip’ was done in hopes it could contribute to changing Abby’s “mind” about rides, getting her to associate the car more with fun things rather than something scary.)
Happy Reformation Day!!!

Yes Reformation Day 🙂
A snow-covered forest sounds lovely.

And in honor of Reformation Day, this from Martin Luther posted by our denomination today:
~ When I look at myself, I don’t see how I can be saved. When I look at Jesus, I don’t see how I can be lost. ~

A few of the grands have snow for Halloween, along with a vicious wind and cold.
In 1991 we had over two feet of snow on Halloween night. That was not fun.

So, what did Abby (or the trainer) have to say about that field trip, DJ?
