Good morning! Wish we could have such a lovely day as that was on top of Lookout Mountain. It will be hot and unpleasant today. I have Bible study group and after that a lot of kitchen duty so no need to be outside, thankfully.
I am so appreciative of those who cart me around. I let my friend drive my car on Saturday to the adoption party. It is good to get it out on the road sometimes.
good day yesterday. I even had a friend over for dinner
on the way home from the airport I stopped at Costco for gas and then called a niece a painting had been left for me at her house a year and a half ago. She called me back as we were sitting in the car eating lunch at Trader Joe’s and delivered the painting to me. The painting was by my mom but I had no idea what it was. Almost cried when I saw it as it is of my grandparents house at our ranch. Very special
I’m plotting taking a (whole) week off which I haven’t done in probably years now. 😦
Abby’s trainer returns on Thursday after I’m off work for another car ride and spin to the local park and duck pond for a ‘fun’ walk, then quickly home again. … I’m so hoping we can finally break through with her and she’ll start associating these car rides with a fun time at a park she loves. She got to see a squirrel when we were there the other day.
This is a park we can walk to (via an extended regular walk) but I haven’t taken her there in a while so it feels new to her, I think.
Jo, what a special painting. I have some framed artwork from an ancestor but those are packed in the garage. I have very little open wall space in this house due to all the large windows.
It’s been a little more comfortable here with lower temps and somewhat lower humidity.
The kid-dreaded “back-to-school” ads are now being frequently seen …
Morning. Hot is the word of the week around here…and fire 🔥
Huge fire exploded in the Loveland area and many are evacuated along with cattle, horses etc.It is rather horrific and we are praying for the firefighters and evacuees. And praying people will be wise in decisions involving spark producing and fire igniting projects in this state. We all kind of hold our breath during these times.
We all need to take photos of our precious artwork done by loved ones. I am reminded of the young 21 y/o artist who lost everything she’d done since age twelve in an apartment fire.
That was a note to myself as we have paintings Art and his dad did together of ships on the ocean. Son has one in his apartment living room. I need to tell him to take photos, too.
In our home growing up was a picture over the piano. A gift from my dad to my mom, who loved the ocean and boats. A few tall mast ships on choppy waters. It is in my dining room now, in direct sight from my dad in his living room chair.
Our painting is not paint by number because we have other originals, too, but paint by number was probably popular back then and gave excellent results for the patient and dedicated.
The painting over our piano is a ship with choppy water and clouds similar to the header photo clouds.
My mom did a lot of decorative painting, including murals on walls. Photos are all I have left of those on the walls. I don’t have photos of them all, however. She took photos of many of her creations, however, and put them in a three-ring binder. My sister has that, so I don’t know that I will ever see it. That’s okay as I have many of her works and my dad’s. In fact, I am surrounded by them. My children have some pieces, too.
My husband did a painting once, watercolor, and he considered it a sketch. It was of the cabin next door to the one that the family took on the last vacation before the girls’ mother died. Our older daughter said she would like to have it someday, so we had it professionally framed and gave it to her for her college graduation (though we presented it at Christmas). She didn’t know we were doing it, and she cried. It’s on her living room wall. He wanted to ask her what she wanted for graduation, but I think I suggested it would be a great time to give her that painting that he’d planned for years to give her “someday.”
M gets to go home on Saturday. We’ve had a terrific trip, but it’s been very full and we’re tired.
Last night, we rode a sleeper train from Melbourne to Sydney. I slept most of the night–everyone else, not so much.
After visiting a few museums on the waterfront, we’re taking the rest of the cool rainy day off. Napping, watching the Olympics, reading, resting.
Tomorrow we’ll visit the Maritime Museum down the street–to the thrill of you-know-who, and then ride the ferries around the harbor to see, among other things, the Sydney Opera House from the water.
Dinner with Aussie friends in the evening.
More museums on Friday and then Saturday morning–home! We’ll arrive in San Francisco before we leave Sydney. 🙂
Teens have been great. Food in Oz–not so good. Can hardly wait to have WHEAT bread, fresh vegetables, and fruit. We forget how good we have it in California.
Also, because the meat is all hallal–or butchered/sacrificed in accordance with Muslim laws–we haven’t eaten beef or chicken in a month. I’m looking forward to maybe even having a steak once we reach home.
M, I think Paul addressed similar meat issues (in 1 Corinthians, if I recall correctly) and basically said the idol isn’t anything and the Christian is free to eat (but not to go to a feast at the temple). Unless something about how they do it is simply unappetizing–not something I’ve researched, or care to.

I am closing my eyes and wishing it is Friday.
Didn’t work, did it?

Re: last night’s conjecture on who it was who commented that they get to go home soon – My thought was Lassie!
Lassie Come Home is one of my favorite old movies! (It was a book, too, but I have not read it yet.)

But I doubt that Lassie can type well.

Yes. So wonderful, Jo, to receive that painting.

Janice – Thank you for that suggestion!
I have two lovely paintings that my dad painted when he was a young man. Taking photos of them had never occurred to me, but is a great idea!

One of my dad’s paintings is also of a ship on the ocean, with some choppy waves.
