  1. I am always a bit puzzled by those who think Trump is so immoral and Biden is moral. All the ways, Biden seems to have used his position, his stance for abortion, his refusal to claim a grandchild, his telling us how proud he is of his son, (who clearly is no one to be proud of) his own lies and nastiness all seems to preclude saying he somehow has the moral high ground. (I, by no means, do not say he should reject or not love his son. Being proud of him (unless limited to being proud of a certain act_ is something else.

Trump needs to be more educated on the abortion issue, as do many in the legislature. I am speaking of those who aren’t whole-heartedly for it. Many do not realize what is meant by the mother’s health. Many do not realize why exceptions for rape and incest are not good. I will take every little bit of territory back from those promoting and pushing abortion as an answer to sad dilemmas. I would love to see it outlawed nationwide myself. However, it is not going to happen right now barring divine intervention.

We are in a very low moral state in our country and our leaders reflect that, unfortunately.

  2. This is the way.

Americans overwhelming support the SAVE Act, and making sure only citizens vote. Attach it and make them face a govt shutdown. See who blinks first. Use the power of the purse. Otherwise it’s meaningless legislation.

  3. Kathaleena, I think we agree that good character among the political class appears to be (generally) lacking in our age. Both of our presidential candidates have some serious issues on that front.

  4. A media that wasn’t corrupt and compromised would be pointing this out.

“Remember when Democrats howled about treatment of unaccompanied migrant children who were kept in fence-secured detention centers?

     justthenews.com/accountability…

Now there are crickets even though there are two whistleblowers and IG reports warning these children under Biden are at serious risk of trafficking because they are being rushed into inadequately vetted homes.”

  5. Rove’s take via WSJ:

What Biden’s Exit Could Do for Democrats — They want a new candidate to battle Trump in November. It isn’t too late.

President Biden insists he’s staying in the White House race. If that doesn’t change, it’ll be because of his selfishness and congressional Democrats’ pusillanimity. Both have kept Mr. Biden’s deeply flawed candidacy afloat. …

… One group is very enthusiastic about Mr. Biden’s insistence on staying in the race: Team Trump. That campaign team understands that Mr. Biden’s debate performance now makes it difficult for Mr. Trump to blow the race. As long as the former president sounds sensible, avoids recording devices on golf courses and stays away from Truth Social late at night, he has the upper hand.

What if Mr. Biden decides to withdraw? That would upend everything.

Contrary to what Mr. Biden’s supporters say, the convention to replace him need not degenerate into a brawl. Hopefuls might slip opposition research to journalists to discredit or weaken their competitors, but that’s as far as the mudslinging is likely to go. Any Democrat who ran would understand that public nastiness is a sure path to defeat and perhaps even to future irrelevance. Outwardly, each would accentuate the positive by arguing he or she is the best Democrat to beat Mr. Trump.

… Vice President Kamala Harris would be the favorite but hardly the sure thing. Her 2020 bid revealed that she’s a weak candidate. Her unfavorable numbers are worse than Mr. Biden’s and Mr. Trump’s. And she’s in charge of border policy: How has that worked out? If there’s a new nominee, that person could keep Ms. Harris as vice president to avoid ditching the first black and Asian-American female veep.

It’s true Mr. Biden’s war chest can’t be transferred to any candidate except Ms. Harris—and only after he’s nominated and then withdraws. But it can be transferred to a super PAC supporting the Democratic nominee. …

… If Democrats picked Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly or Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, they could find themselves similarly ahead. Americans want new faces.

Mr. Biden’s fundraising email on Monday said that “this election is bigger than me or you.” If he really believes that, the president should exit the race. ~

  6. President Trump seems to have had, at least, a bullet graze him. I happened to have the tv on and heard what sounded like gun shots. I saw the people on the stage try to crouch down. SS were there and Trump was down. Then he was led away. Looked like some blood by his ear and he raised his fist in the air as SS led him away.

  7. Still unknown, but this is what I’ve worried about potentially — politically-motivated violence.

He looked like he was ok, but jarring when you have that many people in one place out in the open. Prayers this was a false alarm and that everyone’s safe. Thankful for the quick response of security.

Secret Service agents have rushed former President Donald Trump off stage after loud noises rang out at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Footage showed Trump ducking as sharp cracks – apparently shots – broke out.

He was quickly swarmed by secret service agents and rushed off stage to a waiting vehicle.

Trump appeared to raise a fist as he was led off stage.

  9. I remember 1968, a horrific political year with the killings of MLK and RFK — only 5 years after JFK was killed.

Again, we’ve become a house divided (and angrily so).

A time for prayer, to be sure.

“I have one job, and that’s to beat Donald Trump. I’m absolutely certain I’m the best person to be able to do that. So, we’re done talking about the debate, it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye,” Biden said.

  12. From WSJ this morning:

~ … The near assassination of Donald Trump could be a moment that catalyzes more hatred and an even worse cycle of violence. If that is how it goes, God help us.

Or it could be a redemptive moment that leads to introspection and political debate that is fierce but not cast as Armageddon. The country was spared the worst on Saturday and this is a chance to pull out of a partisan death spiral. That is the leadership Americans are desperate to see. ~

  13. The Dad who died yesterday shielding his loved ones. The Democrats and Biden did this… make no excuses. Evil

“The media will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero,” Allyson continued. “They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not

going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came at us.’

“He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a bullet for us,” she added.

  14. A friend wrote:

~ “Please don’t try to spin the shooter for political gain. At least until his politics are nailed down, or we find out the shooting was even about politics, and not insanity or to be famous or other nonsense common among political assassins.

All we know now is that he gave $15 to Democrats, then a year(?) later he registered to vote as a Republican. He was wearing a t shirt of youtube gun something, leans right, or maybe he just likes guns, whether he is on the left or right or is just a nut.

That doesn’t tell us much of anything. Maybe they’ll get a manifesto from his computer. Maybe he was just a kook.” ~

Later, responding to some of the theories on he has read of on both the left and the right, he added:

~ “There were magnetometers for the venue. The shooter shot from nearly a football field and a half away, from outside the secured area.

A 20 year old. He gave $15 to a Democratic Get Out the Vote group when he was 17, registered as a Republican at 18. Wearing a t-shirt from a right-leaning (at least) youtube pro-gun whatever (influencer?).

It makes zero sense to select a Republican to attempt a Republican or Trump false flag.

Nor for a Democratic op to select someone who donated to the Democrats.

And the Secret Service was in on a plot to do a false flag for Trump? That’s impossible too.

Or some kid who steals his dad’s gun to shoot from a football field and a half away to nick Trump’s ear? That’s a lot of trust. Not credible.

    Use your brains people.

It’s a lone gunman. Just a nut, or politically confused nut, or one of those who travels the weird pipelines from ideology to ideology. Who knows where he ended up?

Wait for more data. Please.” ~

Someone else reminded us that John Hinckley shot President Reagan to impress Jody Foster.

  15. This has all been distressing and when you think of what a close call it was. Thanking God for his Providence in this incident.

I’ve not caught up on the latest, having just come home from church, but so many questions have occurred to me, including

    • Whether some security people who (reportedly) said they felt uneasy about the shooter as he came into the venue entrance(?) (did they report this or did anyone keep eyes on him?)
    • Where there trained dogs being used as people came in (there apparently was a place where folks entered)? Dogs would have picked up a scent of explosives which reports said were in the shooter’s car
    • I’m curious about Secret Service as those agents are so trained and so observant; I’ve covered a couple visits from presidents and have watched them in action, it seems like they miss nothing, they are constantly scanning the crowd, pausing sometimes to intently watch a person or something going on

Political speech is protected in this country, even when it becomes emotional (as it often has in these last few cycles). But this all also reminds us that some who are less stable can be so provoked as to take up weapons and make everything a matter of one side against the other and one side always being at blame.

This is a case of fallen, sinful human nature at work, as so many tragedies and near tragedies are.

Praying for calm heads to prevail and for that to also influence our speech both in person and online. Peace. May it prevail.

    ——-

“BREAKING: The top political adviser to Democrat megadonor Reid Hoffman sent an email last night to journalists arguing for the possibility the assassination attempt against Donald Trump was staged by Trump for political benefit.

According to Dmitri Mehlhorn, one “possibility — which feels horrific and alien and absurd in America, but is quite common globally — is that this ‘shooting’ was encouraged and maybe even staged so Trump could get the photos and benefit from the backlash.”

  17. There does seem to be a lot of anger during this election period, perhaps this can also be seen as another reminder to check that at the door; especially as believers, we can still make valid points without the added anger or verbal attacks. Worth a try at least?

  19. The media sucks. They blame others for the rhetoric they’ve pushed about Trump for years, and are continuing to lie about his actual comments—-#

“Unreal. It took less than 24 hours for ABC to start blaming Trump for last night.

“President Trump and his supporters have contributed to this violent rhetoric…”

    “And let’s remember January 6th…”

  20. The assassination attempt was a horrible thing to see . But it was rather wonderful to watch the young men and women in the security detail spring into action risking their own lives to shield President Trump. And very encouraging to see his immediate response. I’m so very grateful to God that his injuries weren’t worse. I hope now the Biden administration will give secret service protection to RFK Jr. We do not want to another disaster. I’m hoping and praying for the best, but also prepared to see things get much worse before they get better.

  21. Encouraging to hear (2nd hand) that Trump referred to God’s sovereignty online today.

And has edited (softened parts of) one of his earlier penned speeches about Democrats that was planned for the convention according to one of his aides.

  22. Mumsee, I think he did learn from that experience. They all did. They learned they could get away with it . They learned they could watch radicalized Democrats burn huge swaths of our civilization to the ground and as long as they labeled it “social justice” or the “summer of love”, our media would make it very uncomfortable–or even costly—for people to disagree.

I think we’ve all learned from it. That’s why we’ll likely see a second Trump term, “convicted felon” or not. ;–)

  23. I’m all for showing grace to your enemies, but putting them in a position to undermine your agenda would not be wise. And that’s exactly what Trump did in his last term. I’m praying and hoping for better things this time around. But God does move the hearts of our leaders in ways I would never expect , and I’m more than happy to leave it in His capable hands . I sleep better that way too.

  25. It wouldn’t hurt us to think about what it would look like to show grace to the victims of our enemies too.

Sometimes I see someone as an enemy solely because of those victims. And those victims are not even people I know personally. They are just people that I cannot look away from or past without injuring my conscience.

  26. God has been extraordinarily kind and merciful to me–with a kindness that I have never nor could ever have deserved or dream of repaying.

With God it is never the case, but for us is it possible that showing grace to one is showing injustice to another? Are we authorized to show grace without regard to its effects on someone else?

    I don’t know.

I think I’m glad I’m not in a position to have to figure it out.

  27. And Re 5:40:

We may never know what this shooter was motivated by, he was young, troubled and that may be all we learn, specifically.

It seems to only matters ultimately to people who seek to cast wider political blame.

So many of these people do not have specific “political” motives, at least none that are cohesive, logical or consistent.

Sometimes we just need to accept that ambiguity.
