  1. Sorry to hear your experience with SS, mumsee. Ours was flawless. Probably a much simpler work history?

We had a wonderful couple of days with the grands. I managed to see the liturgical dance recital that the youngest two grands were dancing in. This was their second year. The woman who has done it is retiring. Her daughter said she would take it over but is just graduating from high school. Next year it will be on hiatus. This woman does it in one church, but the churches of every child is mentioned when it is merited (like around Easter time). The high school auditorium was filled with audience. It is such a joy to see these children and young people praising God through dance. They welcome special needs children and are very patient with them. I am so glad my grands had this opportunity.

Then my daughter and I managed to run to the ending of the choir concert and award ceremony for the oldest granddaughter. We finally went home and had one of the grands open birthday gifts. There we found our grandson and his girlfriend with our first granddaughter. What a joy to hold her and visit with everyone!

  2. Morning! Winds are picking up and it will be a repeat of yesterday. Pines are all standing but we have a bumper crop of pine cones on the ground!

SS process was difficult for me when I applied. They do seem to have detours for the wife applying. It all worked out and they did pay for the months they held me in limbo. Government…..😳

    Kathaleena that sounds so lovely!!❣️

  3. Good morning, all. A beautiful day here.

    Speaking of social security:

They sent me a note last year telling me I was getting old and needed to sign up, and I could easily do so with a phone call from them. So we set an appt and a guy called.

This will be very easy he says. Oh wait, you have a child who has turned sixteen living at home, that means you can’t get social security. What’s that? You have a disabled twenty two year old you assist? You will need to come in to the office.

(arrange for Boise brother to come stay with dad while we go to soc sec office)

(at the office) why is your husband talking for you (in a stern reproving voice)?
Because he does our paperwork, always has.

    (grumbling from her)

Oh, and we received a card saying I needed to fill out the card saying whether or not I wanted reduced benefits for life but nowhere on it could you say no. So she said we had to fill it out and they would fix it later.

Ok, we will put this through and see what they decide.

(receive notice soc sec is suspended)

You need to come into the office to get that resolved.

(arrange for Moscow brother to meet us in Lewiston and spend time with dad)

Back to Lewiston where another lady clearly did not approve of husband answering.

Ok, we have this resolved, you should begin receiving in March.

note from soc sec saying our request was denied.

Phone call with another woman who wanted to know why I could not answer for myself. (Because I trust my husband, Mr ex military paper work filler outer, he has done the paperwork for forty five years while I take care of the people.) she called us liars until we explained again that it was her people who had led us on this merry chase. Then became quite cordial and determined to resolve. We ended that call about three weeks ago.

Now we know I am entitled but they won’t pay.

Fortunately, God has used my husband to take good care of us and we won’t miss it, but I pity the folks who are relying on it.

  4. What a hassle, mumsee. Anything dealing with the federal government is so cumbersome and frustrating.

Kathaleena, what a wonderful time, thanks for sharing that.

I’m on a strange schedule today, 1:30 p.m. appt with knee dr (had to fill out a bunch of stuff online as they now have been affiliated w/Cedar-Sinai hospital (as well as others); I probably missed a couple things at the end (insurance info) but I’m sure they’ll catch me on that today (though this office has it all on file from before and nothing’s changed).

Before I go I need to write another pelicans-in-distress story.

Abby cornered a squirrel this morning — squirrel’s buddy up in the tree was just chattering away nonstop. I called Abby away, squirrel on the ground made a break for the tree, and all’s well.

  5. Such a lot of unnecessay hassle, Mumsee. We had minor trouble getting me signed up. I waited to age 70 and get more than I had expected. We went to an out of town office thinking it might expedite to be in a less busy office. We were suspect at first for being out of district, but had ID and we looked decrepit enough that no one would pretend to be us😀

They got the process started, but I had to make a phone appt. in my district to complete the application process. My friend had told me I would probably get half of what my husband got, but she was wrong. I had enough years worked that they based my amount on my own earnings (around fifteen years working, some of that included periods of working full-time and parttime (seven days a week, basically).

I believe my friend in CA had some denial and did an appeal and got more benefit. Could you try that, Mumsee?

  6. Janice, I leave Al that to poor husband. He has gone through all sorts of hoops with social security trying to figure things out for daughter and now son, who turns eighteen this month and will also probably never be able to handle a job.

  7. To top it off, a letter arrived today: soc sec now wants to double the amount they can’t send me because my son is turning eighteen this month. Unlike taking it away because daughter turned sixteen…

  8. I am so glad you have him to handle it, all, Mumsee. I have the tax expert and you have the SS expert! An appeal in many things is the way to do business these days. Agencies deny or overcharge upfront hoping most won’t appeal.

The Fox financial guy said to appeal your home appraisal. He said the appraisals are based on averages and are not correct. He said they have a short time to process appeals and usually do them automatically. That is news to us after 40 years of never appealing. Our old home, never remodeled or updated is not worth what all these properties are selling for. The property (land) is valuable because of its location so there is that to consider, too.

You guys are too funny today.

All went well at orthopedist, he said to get back to moving, he didn’t understand why I was told to “stay off” that knee. This is a minor tear — not nothing, but the knee (and I) will do better once I get back out and move again.

Abby will be a happy dog when I go out to the backyard with the leash later today.

  10. Thankful you can get out more, Dj.

Movement seems healing in many ways unless it will cause greater injury. I have not walked as much in the past few days. Too hot or too busy. I miss it when I can’t.

  11. SSI hassles. I get to go through that in a few years since I’m waiting until age 70 so I can get the most out of what I’ve put in since my first job in 1974. Wow! I’ve been employed for 50 years!

  15. Good morning from beautiful Idaho. Husband and son have taken son out law’s dog to the vet for a little surgical procedure. Sol has purchased living arrangements in the form of a toy hauler. He should be able to take his dog now, after a year and a half of living here. We will miss it but not enough to beg him to leave it here.
