  1. Another wonderful photo. Great shot!

We are having a windy day, on the cool side, too. The grass has grown so much from all the rain. Mowing is good exercise for the whole body. Thankful I can still mow.

  2. Ah, yes, physical labor becomes something you appreciate more as you get older. A few of us spouses help haul music equipment. I remind everyone that we are keeping our muscles up. It can be one reason that moving into a small trailer or apartment is not as good for one physically. Stairs can help build strength. There is a time to do without them or the physical work, but when we can still do work it is good for our bodies to do it.

We have water standing in pools our yard right now. There is still frozen snow in the shady areas. However, plants are pushing up near the house. I can’t wait to be able to putz in the garden again.

  3. My dear friend Jo, who died just a few weeks short of her 101st birthday, always maintained that having to climb the stairs to her second story apartment is what kept her alive and in shape.

Of course, the day came when I and another friend needed to take her to the hospital. Neither one of us alone nor together could get the small frail woman down the stairs.

(How often Jo’s landlord volunteered to move her to the first floor because of those stairs. No elevator.)

I called my EMT daughter who said, “Mom, the firefighters are across the street. Call for an ambulance.”

Four big tall, young, handsome men climbed those stairs five minutes later with a stretcher.

Jo handed them her ID, pointing out the year of her birth WAS 1918 NOT 2018.

    They laughed. “Yes, ma’am.”

To which I replied. “Jo, this is your mother’s dream come true. Four handsome men at your beck and call to pick you up and whisk you away.”

We all laughed. (Her mind was fine, her body was not).

    So they did just that.

The retired nurse friend and I met her at the ER, where she was charming the nurses and doctor. As we sat with her, she gazed around at all the equiment and said, “So, this is was an ER is like. I’ve never been in one before.”

    We loved her so much.

That last year was hard. Her brain remained strong, but her body was tired.

Five years later, I still miss her. Hold ’em close.

  4. yes, I made sure the money is in my account and wait for Monday when it will be withdrawn. However it was a lot less than I was expecting since I had nothing withheld last year. Supposed to get some more rain here tomorrow.

  5. My tax guy replied to my email last night saying he hoped to get mine done today. whew.

I began to worry when I realized I hadn’t heard anything from them after they said they received all my paperwork via email 3-4 weeks ago.

What an(other) amazing shot, Cheryl. Looks like a perfect execution. Good job!

  6. Taxes, got me thinking about “render unto Caesar.” Matt. 22:21

Says one commentary: One can honor the requirements of a secular government (Rom. 13:1) without embracing all it stands for.

And I say to that, good thing! Thinking, also, that it’s a pretty universal application in a fallen world.

M, I remember your speaking so often about your Jo. And yes, the “missing them” part does linger so much. I’ve lost too many close friends in just the past few years. :-(

  7. I heard some words in the middle of the night. I prayed for Art as he struggled with numbers out of balance.

As for me, I just now struggled getting the mower through the thick sod for the first time. Some vinca and other things were poking through. But no ajuga. There is one small patch of ajuga by the curb. It’s last stand. And it is blooming now making me miss it more.

  8. Ah, vinca! Yes, we must get some.

My husband dug up the front yard a few months ago, leaving a disaster. We’ve had dirt delivered, today he starts papering, and I’ll be picking out the plants I’m moving from the shady back to the sunny front.

    There’s a lot of them!

I’ve got a list of plants, too, and we’ll be working that as soon as the transplants have filled up the space.

I have so many things to do!

  9. I’m just grateful for the rain that allows me to keep putting off hiring someone for too much money that I don’t have to tear up the front yard!

It’s all green again, even if it’s not all technically “grass.” 🙂 That works for me.

  10. I’m on a theme now.

Rom. 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

    And commentary from BibleRef:

Why should we submit? Paul is clear: Every authority in the world was established by God. This would include, of course, good leaders, evil leaders, and everyone in-between. Paul’s instruction here, then, is not about blind nationalism or absolute obedience to men. Rather, it is a recognition that human government—in general—is a legitimate authority, and that Christians cannot use their faith as an excuse for civil lawlessness. God puts all leaders in place for the specific reasons Paul will describe in the following verses.

We should remember that Paul is writing this letter to Christians in Rome. The government of Rome ruled much of the known world at the time. It was led by the Emperor Nero from AD 54–68. Nero is famous for his cruel and unfair treatment of Christians, among other groups. We must not assume that Paul is writing these words lightly. He was aware of the implications of his teaching.

  11. Peter, I always thought when Chas said we know what that means he was talking about your posting the funnies.

Or maybe he was saying, “if you want to get something done this week, better get to it.”

  12. It is a Spring like day here. Daughter came for a visit and has just now left! It must be 70 degrees outside…just lovely. Our senior grandson has prom tonight.. he’s going stag…the pushy girls have annoyed him!

My first thought of the header was “here comes the sun”. But after Cheryl’s explanation I suppose it’s more like “there goes the sun”! Truly spectacular shot!

I agree Aj…the government stinks! They taxed our entire SS benefit… first year of being on SS and they sure did stick it to us. Largest check we have written to the IRS ever! They need every Penny to give free care and housing to illegal invaders and to pay off those student loans! Nj

  13. You do need to have SS withhold some if your overall income bumps you up. I think I wound up paying the first year but right away contacted SS to withhold the amount my tax person recommended based on my other income.

  14. … for the next year … And I ask tax guy now every year if I need to withhold more from SS, but since we never get raises on my other income it’s kind of a moot point, lol. Still, tax laws change so makes sense to ask each year I suppose.

  15. One way to look at it, Janice. We can tell you’re married to the Tax Man. 🙂 Who mutters “words” in the middle of the night.

Managed with help to get my old 2012 MacPro up and running again. It’s limping along but is needed as it’s the only computer I can connect to the ancient Canon Printer.

I have 3 laptops I use for various purposes in the work room.

  16. The tax rules on SS have changed at least twice under Biden, both times punishing recipients that have a working spouse. But hey, they gotta get that free money for illegals somewhere.

  17. Rendering unto Cesar is fine. But when Cesar takes my taxes and gives it to the unproductive that have done nothing to earn it, see Earned Income Credit as an example, then I take issue. My money isn’t being used for what Cesar is supposed to be taking it to fund, which I have no problem with, but instead is used as a giveaway to buy votes. That’s where we’re at. So I will pay Cesar, but it ain’t gonna be happily.
