Psalm 80

Of Asaph. A psalm.

1 Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
    you who lead Joseph like a flock.
   You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
    shine forth 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
   Awaken your might;
    come and save us.

3 Restore us, O God;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

4 How long, Lord God Almighty,
    will your anger smolder
    against the prayers of your people?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears;
    you have made them drink tears by the bowlful.
6 You have made us an object of derision to our neighbors,
    and our enemies mock us.

7 Restore us, God Almighty;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

8 You transplanted a vine from Egypt;
    you drove out the nations and planted it.
9 You cleared the ground for it,
    and it took root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
    the mighty cedars with its branches.
11 Its branches reached as far as the Sea,
    its shoots as far as the River.

12 Why have you broken down its walls
    so that all who pass by pick its grapes?
13 Boars from the forest ravage it,
    and insects from the fields feed on it.
14 Return to us, God Almighty!
    Look down from heaven and see!
   Watch over this vine,
15 the root your right hand has planted,
    the son you have raised up for yourself.

16 Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire;
    at your rebuke your people perish.
17 Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand,
    the son of man you have raised up for yourself.
18 Then we will not turn away from you;
    revive us, and we will call on your name.

19 Restore us, Lord God Almighty;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

  3. Amen, and yes, Kathaleena. A lot of prayers went up on her behalf yesterday. 

    My cousin apparently had what’s known as a TIA (“mini stroke”) that passed very quickly and thankfully she knew to call paramedics. She should be coming home today. Her mom had a series of strokes so she’s been very aware that genetics can make her more prone as well. She’s taken very good care of herself, she’s petite and exercises regularly, eats all the good things, but life happens. Praying also for her spiritual state, she left the RC church of her family that she seemed devoted to early on (she’s several years older than I am and I remember my mom saying some in the family thought she might be thinking of becoming a nun). 

    But she seems adrift spiritually, no real connection to any faith that I know of. Pray there may be more opportunities to talk about some of those things with her. 

    And the good news is that this was something of a warning, perhaps, and now she’ll be on some preventative medications. These TIAs usually don’t leave any permanent damage, but are thought to be a sign that the body may be prone to strokes.

  5. Thanks mumsee. And an update from the other cousin this morning is that they want to do another test today, they want to make sure they figure out what happened, they’re looking also at possible pinched nerve issues as a cause for what happened. -dj

  6. Nightingale has to go to court today (leaving in a little while) for the continuing custody case. You may remember that although she was finally given full/sole custody, X has still stirred up trouble, so off to court she has to go again. At least this time, she doesn’t have to take time off from work.

    Please pray for wisdom for the judge and others involved, and for favor for Nightingale, that it will go her way. (Needless to say, I think, “her way” is what is truly best for her son.)

  7. Also, please pray for continued healing of Boy’s concussion, which is supposedly mild. He has an appointment with his doctor later this afternoon. He has had trouble with headaches, light nausea, and sleepiness, so has missed a lot of school. (Some days Nightingale has had him go to school, to see how he does, and then he gets picked up if he is not doing well. So far, he has not been able to make it through a whole day.)

  11. Forgot to update you earlier. The judge made a tiny change, nothing too important, and Nightingale still has sole custody.

    Boy’s doctor said that he can go back to school. He is doing better. (She and we think that he has been exaggerating how he feels.)
