  1. 🙂 Nick getting off the vent.

😦 Best friend will be leaving next week to return to AZ for the winter. Oh, how I will miss her.

😦 The story relayed by a woman to my daughter this week. When she went to one pastor at her church for help when given the news about her unborn child diagnosed to have Down Syndrome, one pastor was too busy to see her. The other asked what she was going to do. He then proceeded to tell her that the church thinks it is perfectly fine for her to abort. He offered no help. They stayed in the church after the birth, but she could never get over the fact that the pastor thought her child was disposable. 😦

  2. We’ve been shocked lately by all the wolves in the church who provide such unbiblical advice.

Why don’t people know basic scripture? Have the churches really done such a poor job for a generation that it’s all legalism and no grace?

When I watched the Bible Project video on Ezekiel I was absolutely horrified when it showed (by drawings) God physically leaving the Jerusalem Temple because of the apostasy there. (The authorities had actually put an altar to BAAL in the Temple in 600 BC)

The syncretism in the church these days–pick your element–is profound.

I appreciated Debra’s comment on the main page about God’s favor on our country, but how long can we count on it?

    Yikes. Really grievous.

  3. 😦 The very real challenges the church faces in these times and specifically right now in the U.S.

😦 Professing believers who behave and speak so unbiblically — horrifically, really — in public with little to no true repentance. Where is the fruit of the spirit?

😦 Some of them seeking to lead the nation or even holding public office now?

Lord, have mercy, may the church be chastened and awakened and returned to her roots, to the Scriptures.

  4. 🙂 Thankful for medical advances and an “easy” cataract surgery. So much we have today that our grandparents or even our parents did not have.

🙂 The ability to still work and be productive in work that I enjoy.

😦 An even marginal cost-of-living raise would be nice after 15 years, however. Now only barely below the “can make it” bottom line for a single person in California (only because I now can include SS in my income).

🙂 But enough to keep head above water (as long as I keep working!). Oy.

🙂 Abby. Such a sweet dog and companion. And good exercise for me.

🙂 Blessed in so many ways.

  5. 🙂 Reminders to self:

    Micah 6:8:

    He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

    🙂 and:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

  6. @11:48 “I appreciated Debra’s comment on the main page about God’s favor on our country, but how long can we count on it?”

We can’t. God judges the nations and ours is or has been or would be (depending on your current perspective on the state of affairs) is, or will be, certainly no exception.

  7. (my query at 3:13), I guess referring to the comment above by Kathaleena?

God’s judgement on a nation often plays out in what the people choose and demand — and God gives them what they want, allowing them to go their way.

Does anyone else cringe at blatantly political speeches by candidates trolling for votes who say they’ll “fight for Christians” if elected?

    Shudder.

  8. Someone was told, after confession to the pastor, that having been forgiven, the individual didn’t need to tell the spouse.

Um, wouldn’t the spouse need to know in order to reestablish a relationship of trust with the offender? Certainly, the spouse might want to get tested for an STD.

What if the spouse suspects–wouldn’t it better for the relationship, difficult though it would be, to confess and receive forgiveness from the erred-against spouse?

I’ve been thinking about the need for people to learn reconciliation–has it ever been taught in your church settings?

We don’t hate, we choose to love–just as Jesus did–and we need to release the forgiveness towards the offender.

Psalm 32, “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away.” David needed to confess his sin–and then receive forgiveness and take steps toward reconciliation.
