Good morning! What a storm we’ve had this morning. Art went out in it at his usual time although I suggested he wait for it to calm. Now the rain is a slow patter.
At least the ragweed pollen levels go down with these frequent storms😀
We had a 1-day city worker walkout on Tuesday and the notice went out that everyone’s trash pickup day would be one day later than normal. I believed it, didn’t put the trash out, and see they’ve just picked up trash today on schedule. Argh.
And I just put a prayer request for the situation in Maui on the prayer thread — yesterday’s prayer thread.
It is Friday…I think! Those fish eyes up there … what are they looking at anyway!??
I was checking my FB page and the Marketplace photos popped up. I noticed a arts and crafts mission desk with bookshelves on either side of the desk. I have one but this was a bit different so I asked if it was still available. A person responded that they had posted it for a friend who was not on FB and to text to this number. I wasn’t quite certain if I should proceed but I did text asking if the location was correct (just down the road from my daughter in the Springs). The owner said it was available and she was in that location.
I drove into town this morning to meet this dear lady. She is a sister in the Lord and only 4 years older than me but has had a difficult life. She had been a professor at Cedarville College in OH and I asked her if she knew a dear friend of husband’s family who was Dean of girls there…she knew the name. We had the most lovely chat and I purchased her desk. I love how our Lord connects us however He will. She told me she felt as though she has known me for years…
Since she was in a wheel chair I had no one to help load it in my car. I drove over to my daughter’s home and kidnapped my teenage grandson to help me. I rewarded him with Chick FIL A afterwards!
Sounds like its been a sweet day. So glad to hear your story, NJ.
While at PT today the lady on the table next to me told of being a young woman, married with three children, who was also an opera singer. She auditioned for a part with the NY Met and got accepted for the dream part which would have meant touring all over. She had not even realized what exactly she auditioned for. She did not take it from the sound of what she said about having a second career. Glad to know her priorities were correct.
I told the PT ladies today that the highlight of my week is to go to PT. It is still such a positive thing to do. I often see people who are not as strong as I am so that is sad, but they are in the right place doing what they can to get stronger.
AJ, on the flower yesterday, it is hibiscus, but the variety is Rose of Sharon.💐
Mumsee, and anyone else interested, I left info on ‘the first letter’ method of memorization for Bible verses and more at the end of yesterday’s thread.
My dad went out to sit and talk with my husband and brother and me. Next thing we knew he was standing by his Walker playing corn hole. He made three in a row several times. He was a mean horse shoe thrower back in the day.
My walking pal for the last 22 years has been in Maui. She and her husband caught a helicopter from north of Lahaina this morning to the airport. They should be home in a few hours.
I wrote a story today on a young local welder who just moved there for new job on Sunday — disaster struck on Tuesday, but the house he and his 4 roommates rented was spared. Still, devastation and death all around them, and they currently have no access to food or water. His family here are just relieved he’s OK, they couldn’t reach him for a while due to cell/phone connection problems, obviously. His mom and sister put in some very frantic, stressful days.

It’s Friday already? I almost forgot! There don’t seem to be any new cartoons, but here they are anyway.

Cartoonists must all be on vacation.
We got rain finally. So grateful for it, even though we will have grandchildren here this weekend.

Well I’m discombobulated this week.

Day late and a dollar short, as they say.

At least Peter knows what day it is.

Does anybody know what time it is? Does anybody really care?

I don’t know. But I really care.
Deadlines to meet! (But I already missed the trash deadline, what’s a couple more.)

Thanks Mumsee.
Now I’ve been walking around all afternoon singing Chicago.

Janice,
All Rose of Sharon are Hibiscus, but not all Hibiscus is Rose of Sharon.
Rose of Sharon also maintains it’s trumpet shape, which the one yesterday didn’t have.
Interesting read.

Janice, for the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people. Titus 2: 11?

I can hardly wait to hear their harrowing story.
