AJ, if I had that car, we would probably live in it.
Is anyone looking for something in particular to buy at a good price today?
We are having difficulty in thinking of something to get our son for Christmas. He is too busy to enjoy the books we could give. I was thinking perhaps something for his car. I use to enjoy having the seat covers made from lamb’s wool. They kept the cloth covered seats nice for longer. I just don’t know if it is something he would like to have.
I’m just hoping someone else has volunteered to go out to do the Black Friday story for us today.
People were lined up yesterday at the Best Buy when I drove by — some had little pup tents and at least they had some shade out there to sit under.
I hope they let us go home early today, I did some interviews Wednesday for a homeless story I just have to write up today, which should take too long. Ideally, though, I should really try to find a 2nd story to do.
If I had that car I would HAVE to live in it.
Today I am having the traditional day after Thanksgiving breakfast. Leftover dressing. One day soon I am going to have to stop eating like a 20 year old Frat Boy. Hubs sent most of the white turkey meat home with son. At one point yesterday, son and the Girlfriend in Law were outside smoking a cigarette, I walked out and discovered a complete set of new Rubber Maid containers still in the box. DIL bought them for me at Ross. Smart girl! She got to take most of them home.
BG wanted to take home Mac and Cheese. She says that Mr. P’s is better than Nana’s. This year she actually ate turkey and tried the dressing both here and at Nana’s so that is progress.
Everyone helped clean up last night with Son and Girlfriend in Law washing the dishes.
It was all over by 7 pm and cleaned. I sat down to rest.
I also got a message this morning that my friend L was able to get up and have some Thanksgiving dinner. Their house is now quarantined because of her white blood cell count. Will post that on the Prayer Thread.
Donna, Misten’s fur was long enough to cover up any collar she wore; people at the dog park were sometimes surprised to see me leash her up and realize she was wearing a collar. But she wore her Christmas collar from Cowboy with pride. And I kept it, so someday maybe another dog will wear it.
I don’t do Black Friday shopping. My husband does sometimes, and the last few years he has gone out to grab some great deals for the birds–sunflower seed and suet. This year both of us are staying in.
Cheryl, this is the best time to find turkeys on sale. You can roast them and slice them up for the freezer to enjoy whenever. I use the turkey roasting bags when I do that so it is very easy.
When we have Thanksgiving elsewhere, as we did yesterday at Mrs. B’s brother’s place, we don’t have leftover turkey, so Mrs. B always buys one and cooks it the day before or the day after. So turkey will be cooking here today.
I found out that Wesley made a pumpkin pie with a graham cracker crust. I thought he had made it to carry to the big departmental gathering, but no, he made it all for himself! I am glad he enjoys cooking some healthy type foods. Pumpkin pie, in my view, is healthier than most. At least that is how I justified eating my pie at lunch time and then eating my brother’s and Art’s left over slices for dinner last night. I scooped out the filling and left the crust (threw that out for the birds). So you can see that Wesley gets his love of pumpkin pie from me. He and I usually get to half a pie between us since Art and my brother don’t eat it.
I saw those shoes, too, and thought they look like my new red sneakers. My dad liked to wear red socks which we cringed over and laughed about, but when I saw the red sneakers on sale, I decided to get them partly in memory of my father. Also, since doing the photography and posting it on social media, I notice how the colorful posts get a lot more likes. I figure the bright shoes will make someone smile.
I’m feeling a little better today. I have to be. D2 and family are here. SIL and I are blowing in insulation. He’ s in the attic, I feeding the blower. I can’t handle all the dust.
The weather is absolutely gorgeous here today as it was yesterday. It makes me be in a good mood. I may get out and do a bit of yard work since I still have that section with leaf cover. This would be a fine day for raking while the wind is not blowing. Many times I sweep or rake in vain when it is windy.
I went shopping today, mostly because my son wanted to go to GameStop to ask a question about the Nintendo 2DS vs 3DS. I ended up getting a used Wii game for $3, which required waiting in line several minutes, but that’s about the extent of experiencing crowds in stores for me here.
Then we went to Walmart to redeem a bunch of pop cans and bottles, and get a new pair of pajama pants for my son (to replace the ones with holes, that he went on wearing until my husband insisted he wear a better pair). I also picked up a copy of Wonder Woman for my husband, which I had said I’d get for Christmas, but since they had it for $7 (including Blu Ray and digital copy as well as DVD), I decided he could have it today so he can watch it with out older son who is here for Thanksgiving weekend (and I can hear it playing already). There was one person ahead of me in line in electronics, and no waiting at the front checkout. Not at all bad for Black Friday.
The one thing I would have liked to find a good deal on today is a Cuisinart 10-egg cooker, since the one I have started leaking on the counter (which also means it doesn’t cook the eggs thoroughly since the water is gone sooner than it should be). Plus this newer model has trays for poached eggs, which the old one didn’t. But I guess egg cookers are not a popular item to shop for, because no stores seem to have any deals on them.
Janice, I do sometimes buy a turkey at the holiday time and keep it in the freezer until I get a chance to cook it–but can’t do that this year, since we don’t know when we’ll be moving.
But I’m making my husband’s plate of Thanksgiving leftovers last two meals, so that works for me.
The weather is gorgeous here, too, and I did a little bit of yardwork. I picked up sticks. I would rake, too, except that last time I raked it brought the lady across the street out–twice–to scream at me. (She apparently has some issues.) Her husband had a stroke a few months ago, and for everyone’s sake I’d just as soon not have her all riled up again, though maybe yelling at me gives her husband a break, I dunno.
Singing show tunes helps fight off dementia, Alzheimer’s disease: study
____________________________________
The hills are alive with the sound of music, which could help people with Alzheimer’s stave off the effects of the debilitating disease.
A study by U.S. scientists has shown that the brain function of those suffering from dementia can be improved if they belt out their favorite show tunes.
Researchers working with elderly residents at an East Coast care home found in a four-month long study found that people who sang their favorite songs showed a marked improvement compared to those who just listened. …

Hymns probably do the same, but it’s not politically correct to say so.
I went to Kroger to get Art’s medicine and a few grocery items since I had to be there. I also got four of the less expensive Hallmark cards for my cousins who had a death in the family.
Since I wanted to finish reviewing and commenting on the inmate Bible study lessons today and get them mailed by 4:30, I never made it out to rake. I did find time to pull up the yellowing ageratum by the mailbox and cut down a few other things in that area that are not suppose to be there. It is a constant battle to keep growing things under control even this late in the year.
At Kroger I put my first dollar for this year into the Salvation Army bucket. Ring, ring, ring go the bells! Ding, ding, ding go the bats! I told the bell ringer she had a good spot because she was beside the Christmas trees which smelled heavenly.
My friend gave me an egg cooker which is at the office. I have not used it yet. I am use to cooking my hard boiled eggs in a small Revere Ware pot. It is nice to have the cooker at work since we have a small kitchen without a stove there. We have a microwave, 4 slice toaster, toaster oven, sink, and refrigerator but no stove at work.
JaniceG, I will most likely get it from Amazon. They have the best price I’ve seen. And it looks like I can get free shipping.
I used to think it would be silly to get an egg cooker, since I can just boil eggs in a pot the way my parents did. But while I *can* cook them in a pot, I almost never did, since it seemed that they tended to be slightly overcooked or undercooked. If having an egg cooker meant I would have hard-boiled eggs more often, then it made sense to get the cooker.
I admit, I still didn’t make them as often as I meant to, as it seemed that I always thought of it when I wanted to have one to put in my lunch or in my salad, not when I had both plenty of eggs on hand and time to cook them (though I often have one or the other). I’m hoping with the new one to use it more often, especially if I can make poached eggs. I would often like an egg and toast for breakfast but I haven’t been happy with the results in the microwave.
We eat a lot of boiled eggs. I tend to cook a batch at night and peel them and chop them (or not) while watching television with Art at night. We use them in kidney bean salad, green salad, egg salad, with grits, or basically with any meal that needs a protein supplement. I think my friend sends them as part of her husband’s lunches.
I’m bushed. I loaded 62 bags of cellulose insulation. Each bag weighs 30 pounds. I haven’t felt this tired or dust covered since helping with hay in my in-laws’ barn 20 years ago.
We were cut loose early today, shortly after 3, which was nice & it gave me time to get the dogs to the dog park before it got dark. I managed to finish 2 stories for the weekend and am looking forward (at last) to a weekend.
I moved all the trash & recycles out early after getting home, but there’s been a truck with a camper shell parked in front of my house all week which made trashcan placements tricky. I have no idea who owns it, but if it’s still there by the end of this weekend I’ll stick a note on the windshield asking of they can at least move it elsewhere on the street. It really blocks my view as I’m trying to back out of the driveway and, as mentioned, makes trash night very cramped. My cans had to be put in front of my own driveway as there’s very little curb space available.
I put my first dollar in the Salvation Army kettle today too…at King Soopers which is Kroger back east! I love saying Merry Christmas to the bell ringer…it’s the little things in life ya know?!
Merry Christmas!🎄
I put away all of my gourds, and fallish decorations….tree is gonna be pulled out tomorrow…and I will get a real tree in a couple weeks to put in the family room……
I’ve got two of my trees up and lit, but not decorated yet. Camp’s new chef is coming over tomorrow to hang out with me and help decorate! We’re going to have so much fun, watching Christmas movies and listening to Christmas music and decorating. I’m glad my husband won’t be home and he’s probably glad I won’t be asking his opinion on stuff and then doing my own thing anyway. 🙂
I am still feeling sore from mowing, but nothing to compare with Peter. I hope you did not over exert yourself, Peter, since you’ve had a cold. May you have a quick recovery!
I’ve hauled 30-pound bags of dog food up my stairs over the years. No fun. #loveamazon
If I decorate this year (and I really want to!), I realize I have one problem — I’m not sure where the Christmas decorations landed. In the garage (mostly), I think??
