Anyone have something to share?
Psalm 65
1 Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
to you our vows will be fulfilled.
2 You who answer prayer,
to you all people will come.
3 When we were overwhelmed by sins,
you forgave our transgressions.
4 Blessed are those you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple.
5 You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds,
God our Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest seas,
6 who formed the mountains by your power,
having armed yourself with strength,
7 who stilled the roaring of the seas,
the roaring of their waves,
and the turmoil of the nations.
8 The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.
9 You care for the land and water it;
you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it.
10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
11 You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts overflow with abundance.
12 The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
the hills are clothed with gladness.
13 The meadows are covered with flocks
and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.
Well, daughter is still in the care of the medical folk. And very excited to be in a Catholic hospital with Catholics to talk to her about Catholicism. She particularly likes the statue of Mary and baby in the entry and the crucifix on her room wall.
We went to visit her yesterday after church. Took a woman who has befriended daughter and one of the brothers, who is pursuing Catholicism. Daughter said it was weird because it felt like she did not know me. She was also very concerned because they took three vials of blood from her arm and her arm felt empty and she wondered how she would get it back. At the end of the visit, she told me she missed me. She has never said those words to anybody before that I am aware of. She said it again when we visited in the evening.
They are still trying to get her a bed in an adolescent psychiatric facility. The only two in this state are four hours north or five hours south. They have removed all weapons from her room so she is unable to keep writing, which she loves, as pens and pencils are dangerous. She can have crayons.
Prayer for wisdom for docs and nurses and us. Prayer for open eyes in daughter as she seeks spiritual relief in ritual rather than in the Creator.
Thanks.

Ritual is very attractive to the mentally ill. I speak from experience, as, during my crisis years as an adolescent, I had symptoms very similar to OCD (never got a diagnosis) and one of my rituals to decrease the anxiety and unwanted thoughts was to cross my palm or forehead (in the back of my bewildered mind, I was counteracting the thought of the mark of the beast on the forehead or right palm). I actually got callous lines along my palm. That was one symptom that my siblings observed (I kept my thoughts hidden for the most part – even my mother only knew of some of them) and Eldest thought I was going crazy at one point. I recovered after five long years of torment, though the anxiety and unwanted thoughts still hover, waiting for a moment of stress to manifest (I’ve been more aware of their presence this past week, what with the prayer requests I’ve brought to you), but I am more mature now in my knowledge of my Lord and His trustworthiness than I was as a young teen worn down by legalistic teaching from ATI. So I do not see any need for the rituals now even when the thoughts come.

We had the usual call from a relative this morning. This morning was the usual rant about others thinking he is a drunk. No, that would be his paranoid/schizo voices. Just airing it and hearing reassurances is often enough. Sometimes a reminder to check med levels. None of it is easy. He is in his sixties and has suffered since his twenties. Yet, he often ministers to others. Prayers for your daughter, mumsee, and the rest of the family.
My husband played music at a venue he has done so at before. One of the women there lost her husband, whom she attended with last time. Her husband worked with mine. I was able to grieve with her for a moment. It was the new normal for her, as it will be for you, Karen, so many times in the coming year. Prayers for you, too.
Also, Karen, you may find it profitable to hire an attorney to look into the benefits you need. Though, it costs money, in the run it may bring you a better monthly payment.

Carol, who is schizophrenic, is very ritualistic with regard to her personal “devotions,” she does them faithfully — and in order — every day, with few exceptions, they sometimes take a few hours. Her mental illness also accounts for her dragging large bags filled with books, notebooks, heavy study Bibles and other random belongings (she must have 50 pens all clipped to one of her bags) wherever she goes.
Glad she (and you) are safe, mumsee. Praying for her peace of mind and that they can break through and get her some helpful treatment.

She also occasionally becomes convinced she’s being “gas lighted” by the staff where she stays, but that doesn’t seem to happen often, thankfully.

K, that is what they need, a calm listener who can gently reorient them to reality. Even with medication, the symptoms can breakthrough, just as I can still get an asthma attack even when I’m taking my inhalers regularly.

NancyJill – Could you ask your friend about how she was eligible for the SS benefits? Was it because she still had minor children?

To update anyone who may be wondering about NancyJill’s friend & Social Security . . .it turned out that she was 60 when she began receiving it.
But having sent off my application to the VA, I am feeling cautiously peaceful, if that’s a thing.

There were some more generous gifts in the mail today from my fellow wanderers, which has certainly helped me to remember to trust God. 🙂
Thank you to all who have blessed me in such a sweet, generous way.

This is the age, though, when these mental disorders start to kick in, isn’t it? Very sorry, Mumsee, but you obviously did the right thing. Prayers for peace of heart, soul and mind.
Kizzie–one day at a time. xoxox

The Boy has been home today with a cold & fever. Please pray the fever will pass soon. He’ll be home again tomorrow, because of it. This little boy is not feeling well.
But. . .he has been so sweet. A few times today, he’s sat next to me & leaned into me, sometimes putting his arms around my middle & holding on to me. (And of course, I put my arms around him, too.) A little while ago, he & I were talking about a few different things, & the conversation turned to Papa. He doesn’t often come out & say he misses Papa, but he “says” it in the ways he talks about him, or in saying, “Heidi misses Papa,” as he did yesterday.
He mentioned, in a sad voice, that Papa didn’t get to see one of his football games. Holding back the tears, mostly, I told him that his Papa very much wanted to see him play.
(I think I may be on the verge of getting that cold.)

Well, on the good news side, son did not have to ride in the ambulance after all. He is battered and bruised but that is to be expected as he rolled another truck today. This is the nineteen year old we set free due to mj and alcohol in the house. He rolled his boss’s water truck. When they burn fields, they keep at water truck and son was in charge of driving it. He took the turns on Lawyer’s Canyon too quickly and rolled it. Does he not know that water moves???? I guess he does now. From what we have heard, the cab was so smashed he should not be alive. We are grateful to Him for him.
