  1. Sadly there were a whole lot of terrorist attacks over the weekend.

    http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/breakingnews/mysterious-incidents-across-us-raise-fears-of-terrorism-as-more-devices-are-found/ar-BBwjVXA?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=U142DHP

“Authorities in New York took “a number of people” into custody overnight in connection with Saturday’s bombing in Manhattan, just as their counterparts in New Jersey worked to render safe “multiple improvised explosive devices” that were discovered at an Elizabeth, N.J., train station.

Though officials did not immediately say whether the two developments were related, they sowed further concern about terrorism in the region and across the country. Police already had been investigating three weekend incidents — explosions in New York and New Jersey and a stabbing attack in Minnesota — that took place within a 12-hour period on Saturday.

About 8:45 p.m. Sunday, the FBI and the New York Police Department stopped what the bureau’s New York Field office called a “vehicle of interest” in the Manhattan bombing investigation, and took people into custody. As of early Monday morning, authorities said no one had been charged with a crime, and the investigation was continuing.

Law enforcement also continued to work early Monday to render safe an area around an Elizabeth, N.J., train station where a backpack with “multiple improvised explosive devices” was found. Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage said that up to five devices were discovered inside a backpack, and one of the devices — found around 8:30 p.m. Sunday — exploded as it was being disarmed, shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday. The New Jersey Transit rail system halted rail service near Newark Airport due to the police activity, though it said regular weekday service would resume at 5:30 a.m. Amtrak announced its Acela Express Northeast Regional and other services would operate with schedule modifications Monday, and passengers should be prepared for delays and cancellations.

“This could take more hours than we thought initially” to disarm the other devices, Bollwage said. Bomb technicians from the FBI, as well as New Jersey law enforcement, were processing the scene. “I’m not sure if the morning commute will be easy,” Bollwage said.

Officials said they could identify no definitive links between the disturbances — the discovery of the devices in Elizabeth, the bombing that injured 29 in Chelsea, an explosion along the route of a scheduled race in Seaside Park, N.J., and a stabbing that wounded nine in a St. Cloud, Minn., mall.

Each incident in its own right raised the possibility of terrorist connections, prompting federal and local law enforcement to pour major resources into determining exactly what happened and why. Officials said they were looking aggressively for links in the New York and New Jersey cases.”

Nope. No links here. Unless you count the obvious one, Islam. But shhhhhh…. we can’t mention that.

    http://nypost.com/2016/09/18/there-will-be-more-chilling-911-call-after-the-chelsea-explosion/

““I’m looking at the explosion down the block. There will be more,” the unidentified male caller threatened, law-enforcement sources told The Post Sunday.

As the suspect behind the terrifying blast that injured 29 people remained on the loose, officials revealed similarities between the pressure-cooker bomb that blew up on West 23rd Street, a similar undetonated device found on West 27th Street, and the pipe bomb that exploded hours earlier at the Jersey Shore.

All three bombs were fitted with old-school, mobile flip phones as their triggering devices — and one source said officials suspect the same person planted the New York and New Jersey devices.

On Sunday night, sources told CNN that surveillance footage showed a man dragging a duffel bag with wheels near the site of the explosion on West 23rd street — around 40 minutes before the blast occurred.

Another video shows the same exact man, wheeling around what appears to be the same duffel bag, on West 27th street about 10 minutes later, the sources said.”

“A handwritten letter, a portion of which is in Arabic, was found inside a plastic bag that had held the West 27th Street device, sources said.”

  3. There must be a lot of those “deplorables” out there, huh?

    http://www.politico.com/story/2016/09/trump-shatters-gop-records-with-small-donors-228338

“Donald Trump has unleashed an unprecedented deluge of small-dollar donations for the GOP, and one that Republican Party elders have dreamed about finding for much of the last decade as they’ve watched a succession of Democrats — Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders and, to a lesser extent, Hillary Clinton — develop formidable fundraising operations, $5, $10 and $20 at a time.

Trump has only been actively soliciting cash for a few months, but when he reveals his campaign’s financials later this week they will show he has crushed the total haul from small-dollar donors of the last two Republican nominees, John McCain and Mitt Romney — during the entirety of their campaigns.

All told, Trump is approaching, and has possibly already passed, $100 million from donors who have given less than $200, according to an analysis of available Federal Election Commission filings, the campaign’s public statements and people familiar with his fundraising operation. It is a threshold no previous Republican has ever achieved in a single campaign. And Trump has done so less than three months after signing his first email solicitation for donors on June 21 — a staggering speed to collect such a vast sum.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” said a senior Republican operative who has worked closely with the campaign’s small-dollar fundraising operation. “He’s the Republican Obama in terms of online fundraising.”
    ———————

Let’s hope he didn’t raise it in the same way Obama did, with the controls off so foreign donations would be taken too.

  4. Sure, I mean why waste time with real training when you can learn to be fabulous instead. Who cares if you’re proficient in your MOS, as long as you’re gay/les/freakshow friendly, right?

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/09/18/navy-requires-sailors-undergo-transgender-education-july-2017/

“An all-Navy message sent out Tuesday says that all sailors will be required to undergo transgender behavioral education by July 2017.
Starting Nov. 1, the training will educate sailors about the Navy’s new transgender policy that allows transgenders to serve in the military, Military.com reported.

“This training will emphasize policies and expectations of personal behavior,” the message states.

It is unclear what exactly is in these training sessions yet, but the Navy will soon send out messages with more information.

In the meantime, leadership is putting together a commander’s tool kit that will guide training, said Lt. Jessica Anderson, a spokeswoman for Naval Personnel Command, to Military.com.

“Service members are expected to maintain standards of conduct and treat each other with dignity and respect,” Anderson said. “Training for sailors will be conducted by command triads via mobile training teams or DVD with a facilitation guide if the unit is in a remote area and unable to receive face-to-face training. There will also be webinars for COs to ask questions prior to delivering training to their commands.”

The training deadline is set to coincide with the date that the Navy will start accepting transgender recruits, July 1, 2017.”

  5. Donna,

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of coincidences going around…. and coincidentally, all on the same day.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2016/09/18/lot-coincidental-attacks-september-17th/

“Let’s just get it out of the way and say it: Saturday, September 17th, 2016 was a bad day. While nobody in the media seems to want to jump in and “hastily” talk about terrorism, there were a few too many coincidences yesterday to be ignored in terms of public acts of violence. The big headline, of course, was the Saturday night bombing in the Chlesea neighborhood of New York City.

A “deafening’’ explosion rocked Chelsea Saturday night, injuring 29 people, blowing out scores of windows and forcing the evacuation of at least two buildings.

The blast went off in a 4-by-4-by-3-foot construction Dumpster outside the Townhouse Inn of Chelsea at 131 W. 23d St.

Mayor de Blasio called the explosion an “intentional act,’’ but not believed to be connected to terrorism.

Of course the Mayor quickly tried to say it wasn’t terrorism, but when a second bomb made out of a pressure cooker was found nearby, that explanation didn’t seem to sit well with the public. Thankfully nobody was killed, but more than two dozen were injured.

  6. Different election, same media playbook.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2016/09/19/attack-trumps-response-chelsea-bombing-straight-2012-romneybenghazi-playbook/

“One of the narratives emerging from the immediate aftermath of the bombing in Manhattan Saturday night is that Donald Trump was not appropriately cautious and circumspect in his response. This is a tactic used against Mitt Romney in September 2012 in the days following the Benghazi attacks.

More on 2012 later, let’s first look at Trump’s words Saturday night, compare them to Clinton’s response and then analyze the media fall-out.”

“So, follow along with the media narrative, because this is important.

Bomb goes off in Manhattan. This after a multiple stabbing incident in Minnesota at the hands of a Somali screaming “Alluha Akar” and after a pipe bomb explodes earlier the same day during a Marine Corps. 5K run on the coast of New Jersey.
Trump refers to the “bomb” exploding in New York while addressing a rally in Colorado
Within minutes reporters call out the GOP candidate for rushing to judgement over the not-at-all mysterious explosions.
The Dem nominee takes that ball and runs with it by chastizing Trump for not being appropriately circumspect.
Bottom line: Trump was right! (apparently the quarrel is that he should not have been so fast with his correct conclusion, or something.)
Does any of this sound familiar?

It should. It’s right out of their playbook from 2012.”

    http://hotair.com/archives/2016/09/18/media-grudgingly-admits-trump-polls/

“We’ve been watching a shift in the polls taking place for a couple of weeks now, but at least from where I’m sitting the coverage on cable news and in the larger national newspapers wouldn’t have let you know. Any good numbers showing up for Trump are generally countered with some states where Hillary Clinton was still doing well, projected electoral college totals showing a better Democratic path or the reliable, this may be an outlier disclaimers. Unfortunately for Democratic optimists, the recent tide has turned into more than a blip on the radar and you can almost feel the pain being experienced at the Washington Post this weekend as they were forced to admit that Trump is now in the lead.

To many Democrats, the biggest surprise is that Donald Trump has mounted a comeback. Despite being battered all summer by his own missteps as well as a barrage of attack ads from Clinton, the Republican nominee has been surging in the battleground states.

Public polls over the past week show Trump leading Clinton in Ohio, Florida and Iowa; moving into a virtual tie with her in Nevada and North Carolina; and cutting into what had been comfortable Clinton leads in New Hampshire as well as in Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Clinton’s return to the campaign trail after her highly publicized bout with pneumonia came at what has turned out to be the low point for her of the general election. She is laboring to regain solid footing before the first of three debates, on Sept. 26.

Even in this moment of admission they had to preface the news with comments about Trump being battered by his own missteps, but the trends seem to have become too much to ignore. In some of the most critical swing states, Clinton’s lead has evaporated and been replaced by a Trump lead outside the margins. In other states where she was way ahead, the race has closed to tossup status.”

  9. And did anyone catch Clinton’s response on camera to the weekend’s events? She looked and spoke as if she were half asleep.

Polls are still somewhat bouncing (lately in favor of Trump), but once October gets underway, the campaigns will be in the final push without a lot of time or room for missteps. What a year.

Just think how long ago is seems since we were all talking about Carly Fiorina, Marco Rubio, John Kasich, Ted Cruz — so many “has beens” left in the wake of the very unpredictable Trump tsunami.

  10. They have their suspect. Saw some video a bit ago of the shot and cuffed suspect being taken away by ambulance.

I think it’s time we take a more “Israeli” approach to security in this country. Profiling works there, and would here as well. The govt has no problem with profiling white, Christian, former military men, so why not for people who are actually killing people too? Trump agrees.

    http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-calls-for-profiling-in-wake-of-attack/ar-BBwlkoD?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=U142DHP

“Following the bombings in New York and New Jersey over the weekend, Donald Trump praised Israel’s use of profiling and said the U.S. needed to do it as well.

“In Israel they profile. They’ve done an unbelievable job as good as you can do … and they’ll profile. They see somebody that’s suspicious they will profile. They will take that person and they’ll check them,” Trump said. “Do we have a choice? Look what’s going on. Do we really have a choice? We’re trying to be so politically correct in our country and this is only going to get worse. This isn’t going to get better. And I’ve been talking to you guys for years, and I’ve been saying it.”

On Fox & Friends Monday morning Trump was asked to react to the bombings that had occurred in over the weekend. In New York, 29 people were injured from the blast but none were life-threatening. Other bombs went off in New Jersey but no injuries have been reported.

The Republican nominee said Monday he expects attacks are “something that will happen perhaps, more and more all over the country.”

When asked repeatedly what his plan would be to stop future attacks, he was vague on details.

“We’re going to have to do something extremely tough over there,” Trump said.

“Like knock the hell out of them. And we have to get everybody together and we have to lead for a change,” Trump said. “We’re going to have to be very tough and you have other countries over there that we are getting devastated far more than we are. And you have to get them together. It’s called leadership. And they have to fight. You know, they have to fight the battle. The battle is over there. And we have to fight the battle and we can’t let any more people come into this country and when we have bad ones — you know, we have people going over fighting for ISIS and coming back and we know they are fighting for ISIS and we take them. Once you leave this country, you fight for ISIS, you never come back.””

She failed to mention it was the failed Clinton/Obama policies on ISIS, radical Islam, their disastrous Mid-East policies in general, and open border immigration policies are what caused/allows this. But she’s a serial liar, so what do you expect.

Perhaps whatever she was drugged with is affecting her judgement. Again.

” Hillary Clinton cast herself Monday as the most qualified to combat terrorism within the U.S. and abroad after weekend attacks in three states rattled Americans.

The Democratic presidential candidate touted her national security credentials at a hastily scheduled press conference outside her campaign plane, denigrating rival Donald Trump for using the incidents to make “some kind of demagogic point.”

“I’m the only candidate in this race whose been part of the hard decisions to take terrorists off the battlefield,” Clinton, a former secretary of state, told reporters. “I have sat at that table in the Situation Room.”

She added: “I know how to do this.””

  15. AJ – Re: your comment about Gary Johnson. A Facebook friend shared a couple articles about that gaffe. Seems there was an abrupt change of subject with that question. The articles went on to say that after being reminded about Aleppo, Johnson then went into an intelligent reply about the situation in Syria.

As for the “no one was hurt”, my guess is that he meant to say “killed”. I have made that same mistake myself.

Lest you think my occasional defenses of Johnson mean I am supporting him – no, not necessarily. But I like to be fair. As I’ve mentioned before, I am still undecided of who I will vote for, or even if I will.

Everybody knows the motive of the Minnesota mall attacker, but authorities are unwilling to say it.

… It was only last year—coincidentally, in St. Cloud—when Governor Mark Dayton warned Minnesotans concerned about the state’s ever-growing Somali population to pack up and move on. Dayton weirdly instructed “white, B-plus, Minnesota-born citizens” to suppress their qualms about immigrant resettlement in Minnesota. If they can’t, he added, they should “find another state.”

Anderson, the police chief, evidently wants to stay put. Something is happening here and, while everyone knows what it is, no one in a position of power is willing to say it. Even the police chief is exercising his right to remain silent lest he be stigmatized as a bigot. …
