Morning all. Aj, you are up early this morning. Are you going fishing???!
Just finished a full back up of my computer using syncback free. There is about 58 gigabytes in the file, but it says that it failed. What do I know?
Spring garden envy. How I wish I had a full rich flat garden bed with plenty of water like that one!
We do a daily off-site backup called Mozy. It took days to backup the entire computer system when we first set it up nearly 10 years ago now. Other than virus protection, it’s the most important computer-related event we’ve ever done. We’ve downloaded the entire memory of one computer onto a new computer three different times.
It also gives me, who lost countless writing files to children overriding to add computer games, peace of mind.
Though I still email my manuscript to myself from time to time for another layer of protection.
What to do? R should be up in half an hour, I’ll ask him. I suspect you need to figure out where the hang up was–a corrupted file?–and start again. 😦 So sorry.
Off to the ophthalmologist this morning.
During my eye exam last year, he said that I might have difficulty passing the vision test for my driver’s license. We need to do something about that.
My SS class is having a luncheon at 11:30 today. Wives are invited.
Thanks, Michelle. We can’t use the cloud or anything like that. It would be far too expensive with the high cost of our internet.
So I have an external hard drive, but wasn’t sure how to use it correctly. This is a start. I also purchased new memory sticks and put documents on one and pictures on another.
Roscuro those are lovely photos! The top one somehow reminds me of the land on the farm where my mother grew up in NW Alabama, although there was no birdhouse.
What is that flower? I am on my tablet and the photo is not large on it.
I got up early to put together a fan I bought yesterday at Sam’s for Art’s office since the AC has gone out and must be replaced. After I put it together I read the loose page about the additional safety feature of the three prong plug that needs a three prong receptacle. No adapter should be used so as to prevent fire hazard. So a person needs to hire an electrician to install a recepticle to run the fan they purchased. Why has life gotten so complicated? I gave Art one of our other fans to take to work.
R just got up and said, not knowing your program, you might consider backing things up in chunks: all the photos, say, and once they’re backed up, then back up all the docs.
You’re probably already doing that.
If you had another external hard drive/flash drive, you might consider backing up and bringing it home with you to leave with your family when you return to PNG.
I’ve written a blog post since I was last here. Life is too busy these days. And now I haven’t slept much . . . sigh. It will be a long, full day but at least one timely chore is done. 🙂
I’ll never last through the 7:30 movie I’ve been invited to tonight. Sneak preview on a Jane Austen flick! Action packed! 🙂
Hey, I’ve still got a couple hours before the next activity, maybe I can do my Bible study prep, too! Ciao!
Lovely photos Roscuro. Next Wednesday is screaming up on me. I have about a million things to get done between now and then. I had lunch with BG yesterday. She insisted on paying …even when I pulled up her bank balance on my phone and offered to split the bill. I am proud to say that I have managed to raise a generous tipper.
In addition to the letters of affirmation I am to have people write to give her at the end of our week at the ranch, I am to bring a purity ring or token to give her. Her father and I were married in September. That first Christmas he gave me a band of sapphires to wear with my engagement and wedding rings. I told him that I was taking that ring to give her. He has not contributed to this trip in any way, but I would like whatever I give her to be from both of us. I think it will be special because it is something he gave to me and I am giving to her.
Good Morning all….the sky is blue and sun is shining…that is to change later this morning….severe storms are to hit and last into the night….time for moisture in these here woods!
Praying your vision is strong enough to pass the test Chas….I failed my test last year for night driving….in four years I will have to have my ophthalmologist test my eyes and give me permission to drive….
I love your plan to give BG the ring Kim…what a treasure….
They said that I will likely fail the test.
But DMV will give me a form to take to the ophthalmologist.
They will give me license to drive, but will have a “daylight” restriction.
i.e. I won’t be able to drive at night.
I don’t like it, but I can handle it.
But. They said, I might pass the test.
They said that cataract surgery might help.
But I also have some macular degeneration and cataract surgery might not help.
I’m holding off on that.
I hear that cataract surgery isn’t as scary as it seems. I have a friend in her early 50’s who spent too much time in the sun without sunglasses who has already had to have cataract surgery. I do not speak from experience.
Peter, I use to hear that there is no treatment for a broken toe. I do not know if that is true. I hope they can do something for it.
Chas, I hope things will work out according to your desires on vision and driving. Always keep in mind that people are wanting to keep you and others safe with their decisions.
Picking up a co-worker at the dentist this morning (she doesn’t drive due to diabetes complications & she goes to the same dentist I do, just a couple blocks away — she normally uses uber).
Couple stories to try to write today. Neither have to do with Bernie Sanders or roaming urban coyotes snacking on our pets, so that’s a plus. 🙂
I didn’t realize it at the time. I should have known.
But the SS luncheon was in “honor” or me. Seems they think I did something.
Somewhat embarrassing.
I sat up late last night finishing an encouraging book by Phyllis Thompson, written circa 1980. I read it on the Kindle and in trying to copy significant quotes, ended up having the Kindle send them to me. I’m going to post the three messages here FYI.
The book is about what happens to the 650+ China Inland Missions missionaries when the Communists took control of China and the complexity of getting them out.
Fascinating, affirming, encouraging and stuffed with faith building stories. I loved it.
First one here:
Hi – I’m reading “China: The Reluctant Exodus” by Phyllis Thompson and wanted to share this quote with you.
““We truly want to thank the Lord. Suffering is for the profit of God’s children. If we want our lives to be beautiful, then we must welcome suffering,” these Chinese believers said.”
““Suffering is never welcomed by man, but suffering can cause a man to know God better.” This was a constant theme in the testimonies they gave. “Suffering has the power to revive backsliders. It is also a good method of purifying the church. When tribulation comes, those who are Christians in name only are winnowed away. Churches concerned only with external appearances disappear altogether. Those that are true are purified through suffering.”
““Do they really know what’s going on inland?” some of the missionaries wondered as they listened. “The opposition to any form of religion, the enforced attendance at classes on Communist doctrines, the exposure of those who can’t accept them, the secret accusations, the arrests, the interrogations, the public trials, the executions…?”
“The pressure from without is great,” one of them warned in a private conversation. The reply was unforgettable. “The pressure from without is great,” agreed the Chinese believer. “But the pressure from within is greater.””
Funny that eight year old and I are just finishing Gladys Aylward, Missionary to china. Reading about the Nationalists and Communists and this and that.
Amusingly, Husband called from the Amazon parking lot in California. He was telling me amazing things about the parking lot with one hundred fifty truck trailers on site. They were waiting for theirs. I told him it would be funny if he picked up my order! But my order arrived shortly after the phone call. I think they are fast but maybe not that fast.
I meant to say, one hundred fifty trucks on each side of the building. From where he was sitting waiting for paperwork, he saw fifty loading docks each with a trailer being loaded and it was the same on the other side. And away from the building, trailers stacked two high in rows of fifty. I know, it makes it challenging for the local stores but it is an amazing logistical operation. I know this as husband was in logistics and he told me so.
Off to my Friday. Last day from a sweet little girl named Rose, who hugs me several times a day. In fact, wherever she sees me she runs to give me a hug. The store, walking along the road, in church. I am going to miss her. But I won’t mind having only 21!
Thank you ObamaCare. The doctor’s office this morning didn’t need my insurance card, since I still have the same company. The orthopedic surgeon’s office did, even though they have my info. “Sorry, but it needs to be current.” 2012 info isn’t current enough. Now I have to wait until Tuesday to see him, that is, if the insurance company can fax them the card by then. I lost the card when I lost my wallet last summer.
I saw The Inn of the Sixth Happiness when I was a teenager, & loved it. So, sometime after I became a Christian, I wanted to learn about the real Gladys Aylward. Her story is as compelling as the movie made it out to be, but she didn’t like the romantic aspect of the movie. 🙂
Colorado has some of the highest car insurance rates in the nation…in particular Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo….ours jumped over 300 dollars this year…even though the cars are another year older…and so are we…no accidents, no claims, no tickets…3400 dollars a year for the three of us. My agent explained to me today that our actual insurance for the cars only increased by 40 dollars….the rest was medical…due to Obamacare….I am livid….
Glad you enjoyed the pictures. The bird is a flicker, and the flower is a primrose.
I haven’t been around lately for five reasons, who are full of energy, questions, and mischief (especially the male ones). Eldest sibling and sibling-in-law are observing a decade and half of marriage by getting away for a couple of days, leaving my parents and myself with their offspring. They are a delight, but they do take a lot of time. Second Nephew has spent a good part of today grilling me on nearly every subject under the sun, from babies being born (because his other two aunts will give birth soon) to what we will have for lunch tomorrow (he and his elder brother consumed an enormous amount of perogies for supper). Tomorrow I take him and Eldest Niece to visit my dear friend and relative, who is still unwell and needs extra help. It is a bit of a drive, so I would appreciate prayers for safety and energy to do all I need to do (my asthma is complaining of the spring pollen). Second nephew shouldn’t have a problem with the trip. I started him reading ‘The Horse and His Boy’ yesterday on my e-reader, on the way to the park, and he can hardly wait to read the rest.
Time to go watch the juniors and seniors arrive at banquet. The arrivals are great. Of course lovely dresses, etc. But in the past they have arrived by helicopter, bicycle, chaise lounge with knights holding it up, horseback…. you just never know what to expect. Most cars on centre are being washed today.
