  1. Chas, I would think it would be important to keep her on your schedule. While it is tempting to get up and “get things done” while she is still asleep. (I know, because I am a mother 😉 ) if she gets off schedule you will be exhausted and pass out at night and she will be wide eyed and bushy tailed.

  2. Good Morning Spring! Those are lovely photos! It is snowing here…and we are to receive 8-12 inches tonight with another 8-12 tomorrow….have mercy!
Good to hear Chas and Elvera had a good night…continued prayers ❤

  3. Lovely trees in full bloom. I thought they were cherry trees. My brother cut down some wild cherry trees in the yard last Saturday. They would not have been beautiful like these in the pictures.

Glad to hear things are getting better, Chas. I know, though, from experience, that you will probably remain a bit on the edge and watching more carefully over her which can be exhausting even when out of crisis made. If you are able to get into assisted living quickly, it will give you relief from stress as you share the load of watching over her.

  4. I was exhausted for the few weeks we stayed with my mom and I had an ear opened in case she got up in the night. She had fallen a few times doing that. And I was younger than you, Chas. Praying for you both. If there really is some kind of underlying infection, she may need the sleep.

Beautiful tree. Way too cold here for that yet.

  5. I survived two tornado warnings last night. One actually was real, as the local police spotted a tornado in our town. We also got hail. I went out afterward and picked one stone off the ground. It was 1″ in diameter. No damage at our house, but several houses in a nearby village had roofs torn off.

  6. The tree is a weeping cherry. I never heard of them until I moved here, but there are a lot of them here, and many of them are sheer poetry. This one is in my in-law’s subdivision; I saw it in bloom when we drove by one day and a couple of days later I drove to town and drove to my favorite blossoming trees and took pictures. But this one is hands-down the best tree in town except for one that will bloom a little later in the season. Some people have miniature versions of them, and they are shorter than I am and rounded at top in a way that reminds me a bit of umbrella ribs; I don’t like those. But I love these tall ones with natural branches and profuse pink blossoms.

  7. Wow, what a gorgeous burst of color in those trees!

We have our jacarandas in bloom right now, purple trees everywhere in town. I’ll have to shoot one before they’re gone. On the down side: They are a sticky mess when they begin to shed.

We had really strong winds last night, howling winds that were physically hard to go up against. I cut the dog walk a little short, they were that crazy.

Glad to hear Elvera had a good night and is getting some rest. Maybe things are starting to stabilize at least …

  8. This morning I worked out in the brush piles my brother set up for me during his clearing spree last weekend. I stuffed and stuffed two cans full and worked up a sweat. There is plenty more to do. And after I finish, I get the reward of having the lawn cleared to mow. I saw a gal out getting her exercise on the street, walking or running, and restrained myself from offering her a free trial of Janice’s Front Yard Exercise Center where exercise exceeds expectations.

  9. Mine is graduating soon…Thank you God. What was the discussion the other day about computers in the classroom? I received this email from our school system.

    Parents –

As we shared with you a few months back, students in Kindergarten through Grade 2 will continue to use iPads for the 2016-17 school year. Students in Grades 3 through 12 will receive Chromebooks that will replace the use of Mac Books. We’re excited about this advancement that saves taxpayers a substantial sum and offers our students a device that is designed to support academic achievement.

There is more good news. Parents will no longer have to pay the technology fee. Also, to help prevent any fees to parents related to damages, an approved backpack will be required in order for the student to take the Chromebook home.

The Baldwin County Education Coalition is considering a service that is aimed at providing parents with a convenient and cost-effective option to purchase backpacks that meet school system requirements. The service would be completely optional (not required). Parents could choose to purchase the backpack online with delivery directly to your child’s school or purchase independently.

Below you’ll find a link to a brief survey that has been provided by the Coalition to gauge your interest in the above-mentioned serve. I know they would appreciate your input.

    Thank you for your assistance!

  10. I opted mine out of computer use, saving the taxpayers even more money. And myself the concern of paying costs for a computer I did not want. And my children the opportunity to use their brains rather than somebody else’s. I have seen some of the approved research papers children put out on those things. Consisting entirely of pics with copied or weak labeling. And papers that looked very much like cut and paste with no citing of sources.

  11. We had one of those weeping umbrella shaped plum trees when we moved in and it was very pretty but I had neither time nor inclination to figure out how to prune it and it is now growing into a beautiful normal weeping plum. It is just flowering now.

  12. At some time in the last several months or so, I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned how bad my eyesight has become, but that we were waiting on getting our eyes checked until we could afford it ourselves or had insurance. Now that we have insurance, we finally had our eyes checked.

Besides needing to treat my dry eyes with drops more often during the day, it turns out I have cataracts, & need surgery to remove them. I know it’s not a big deal to go through (one lady on Facebook said the only part that “hurt” was getting the IV needle), but it’s the hassle of having to go to the consult first, then one surgery, & a few post-op check-ups (the last one being a month afterwards), & then go through it again with the other eye. (I don’t know if there is any overlap between going through the post-op check-ups for one eye, & surgery & check-ups on the other, or if it is all that stuff for one eye & then again for the other.)

Since Lee has to drive me to my appointments, I feel bad that I’ll be taking up a lot of his time, when he has so many other things he wants/needs to do. Hoping that, depending on her schedule, maybe Emily will be able to take me to some of those post-op check-ups.

My consult is set for June 21.

  13. …many of them are sheer poetry:

    Loveliest of trees,the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
    Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
    Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
    Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

  14. Happily in our hotel room in Murfreesboro. Lovely day up the mountain in Smokies, all the way up into the clouds so no multi-state views. Did see a mama bear and baby, plus another bear just sitting beside the empty road. Traffic was much faster at 8 this morning.

A visit to the Eastern TN museum followed by lunch in Knoxville–a great lunch. No clue for tonight– maybe we’ll go the movies and I’ll get my one allowed Sonic chocolate milk shake in lieu of dinner?

Tomorrow I meet with my editor (the bride) for breakfast and then all day into the night in Nashville. We’ll be in this brand new Holiday Inn for three nights. (Though, I’m wishing the Fairhope B&B had a sister here).

    Gasp. After all my plans, no tub . . . . 😦

  15. We lost Blackie Sherrod today. He was the best sportswriter in Texas, so that means he was the best in the world.

Bill Millsaps of the Richmond Times-Dispatch once commented on Texas sportswriter Blackie Sherrod’s writing abilities by saying that, “John Kennedy once said Winston Churchill marshaled the English language and sent it into battle. Blackie invited the English language up on the porch, gave it some four-alarm chili and a Dr. Pepper, and sent it out to make the sports world laugh.”

  16. I’m back into initial work on the second of my children’s books. I haven’t finished the first, but I’m trying to do some stuff in both before I go back into them deeper. Hopefully it won’t mess up my sleep schedule too bad over the next week or so!
