  1. Thoughts?

“Hours after Sec. of State John Kerry declared that the Islamic State is committing genocide against Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq and Syria, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., introduced a bill to prioritize Christian and religious minorities in the United States’ Syrian refugee resettlement program.

The Religious Persecution Relief Act, which was introduced by Cotton Thursday, is legislation that would require the U.S. government to designate 10,000 refugee resettlement slots every year for the next five years for Syrian religious minorities.

Additionally, the bill will fast-track the U.S.’s review process for religious minorities who do not register with the United Nations because of fear of persecution inside of refugee camps. This will allow for those persecuted individuals to circumvent the U.N. process by allowing them to apply for resettlement directly at U.S.-funded refugee support centers in northern Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

As hundreds of thousands of religious minorities have been tortured, killed, raped and displaced in Syria and Iraq, Cotton argued in a speech on the Senate floor Thursday that President Barack Obama’s refugee resettlement plan, which only aims to bring in a total of 10,000 Syrian refugees in 2016, is “ill-considered.”

“The United States unwisely relies on the United Nations for all referrals of refugees seeking resettlement, Christians and other religious minorities fleeing persecution are the victims of unintentional discrimination when seeking asylum and protection in the United States,” Cotton stated.”

I don’t think the discrimination by the UN is unintentional. Not at all.

  2. As mentioned before, we would gladly bring in a Christian refugee family or several young children but I am not interested in bringing ten twenty year old Muslim men here. They may be perfectly nice but my children are here for safety. I am willing to contribute to a safe refugee camp for Muslim men in Jordan though.

  3. I always knew “the revolution”, which will be televised this time, would start in one of two cities. Chicago…… or Cleveland. I think we know now who the winner is…….. if you can call watching your city burn “winning.”

“is summer, parallel swarms of Republican supporters and left-wing activists will descend on downtown Cleveland for what could be the most turbulent presidential nominating convention since the 1960s.

Republican national conventions are often protested by activists in large numbers. But this year, the forces converging on the convention threaten to make for an explosive mix: a city scarred by controversial police shootings and simmering with racial tension; a candidate who has threatened that his supporters will riot if he comes with the most delegates but leaves without the nomination; and a police force with a reputation for brutality.

“I’m really concerned all hell is going to break loose,” said James L. Hardiman, a vice president of the Cleveland NAACP, who noted community members are expressing concerns about the convention “every other day.” “The big concern is injury to people, damage to property, indiscriminate arrest. The people who actually live here – what are we going to be left with at the end of the day?”

“This month, black, Muslim and Latino activist groups helped shut down a Trump rally in Chicago. More audacious and often risky protests followed. Over the weekend in Arizona, demonstrators blocked a road leading to a Trump rally, and another protester was punched while being ejected from a Trump event.

It’s unclear whether any left-leaning activists will be able to breach security to protest inside the Republican National Convention, but Trump has said his supporters might riot in Cleveland if establishment Republicans persuade GOP delegates to nominate a different candidate.

But protesters may be even more worried about the people tasked with controlling the crowd. Much of the security outside the convention, which will include police from multiple agencies, will fall under the authority of the Cleveland Police Department, which has come under federal scrutiny for its repeated use of “unreasonable and unnecessary force,” in the words of a 2014 Justice Department investigation.”
