I am awake and listening to the birds. Yesterday we spent some time outside. Several different bird types have discovered our feeder so we sat and watched them. Mr. P’s sister will be here tomorrow night. BG has court so I won’t be going with him to the airport to get her. Even if I didn’t have anything planned I think it would be best for them to spend some time alone…sort of settle into each other before I am introduced into the mix. I certainly hope she enjoys her stay with us.
The Arts and Crafts Fair and the Outdoor Art Show are this weekend. That is why we scheduled her visit for this time. The leaves and sprouting on trees, the grass is greening up, and flowers are starting to bloom. Spring is springing.
One of the guys at the dog park showed up with a Trump hat yesterday. One of the other guys at the dog park, a far-left liberal, didn’t like it much. They’re both in either their late 50s, early 60s, and get along OK but it was a little awkward.
Me, the peacemaker, kept changing the subject.
Example:
Trump guy to liberal: “You sure you don’t want a hat? Or a bumper sticker? I can get them for you.”
Liberal to Trump guy: “It shouldn’t say ‘Make America Great Again,’ it should say ‘Make America white again.'”
Trump guy to liberal: “You’re white. Are you ashamed of your race?”
Liberal to Trump: “No … ”
Me: “Hey, I just sent away for one of those Ancestry.com DNA kits. … “
Repairman coming between 1 and 5. Now the plug on the printer won’t stay connected….running to Staples to see if they have a replacement, grabbing another bag of ice for the cooler, and grabbing a tether at PetSmart for the 7 year old Fly who has decided she needs to run down the drive, stand in the road and block any car attempting to drive past the house….training collar is to be shipped tomorrow….can I have a do over for this week?!
Karen, while I like the busyness of retail, and most of our customers ( 🙂 ) it has been a challenge to stand from 9-6 She has had past employees who have been very lazy….I do believe she is now hyper sensitive to how much her employees are working….if she would see an employee sitting, it would bug her that she is paying them to sit….in her mind, she pays us while we eat lunch so that makes it a benefit to us….I don’t know…she is a believer and overall a very sweet and kind person….
I have failed in Nosy Neighbor.
My ex sister in law just called me to find out what was going on in the neighborhood. It seems that the police had her street blocked off and someone in the middle of the street with their hands on their head. I walked up to the corner to look but it was all over and no one was outside and there were no police.
NancyJill it is sad that people have taken advantage of your neighbor/boss to the point that she has to be difficult.
Part 1: Well, last night I wrote about a Facebook friend’s cousin replying to the friend (who was YF) that by Jesus saying “For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished,” He upheld all the little details of the OT law, meaning we still need to be following ALL the law, including stoning certain people.
I had replied that Jesus had fulfilled the law, that He had accomplished what needed to be accomplished by His death & resurrection, & I shared the first article that Donna had shared with me about the subject.
Part 2: Later, he replied that what I had written, & what the article said, was a “common misinterpretation of the scripture. . .what that verse says is that while the Universe still exists then all of the previous laws still apply. That is, all of the previous laws were still in full effect.” He said that Jesus “was continuing the plan of God, but that doesn’t involve changing anything.”
He also wrote, “Some of Paul’s writings contradict the Gospels, but that’s because he wanted to become a cult leader. He never met Jesus. He just made up stuff. You can think of him as an earlier Joseph Smith.” (I’m sure you’ve all read that theory before. I know I have.)
As for the stoning that Jesus stopped, he said that any of the prophets could intercede on the punishments of God, & that Moses, Abraham and many others did so.
Then he goes on to say that “it never says Jesus is a trinity-aspect of God either. That was just made up by the early church and people just accept it now. The meaning of “I am” is just that he’s the work of God, not God himself. People confused the messenger with the message.”
Part 3 (& the last one): So, I realized that this young man is one of those non-believers who has versed himself in the anti-Christian type of Bible criticism. I’ve seen others write similar things. They think they know & understand more about what the Bible “really means” than those of us who believe in it & have studied it most of our lives.
The one thing he wrote about that I have seen a lot written on, even by a devout believer I know, is that supposedly the Bible does not really teach the Trinity. One thing they point to is that the portion of the scripture in bold below, from 1 John 5:7-8, is only found in a few later manuscripts (even my Bible mentions this). . .
“For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.”
Anyway, I realized that I should not engage with him, as those kinds of arguments over scripture tend to be futile. I merely reiterated some of what I had written (which wasn’t much to begin with), but I did add, “As for the Trinity, Jesus did say that He & the Father are one, & that when we have seen Him, we have seen the Father. And before His death, He promised to send the Holy Spirit to dwell in us believers.”
YF has not replied to either of us, & I wonder what her opinion is on the whole matter. As I’ve said before, she has an undue influence on my Chrissy (& remember, they live in the same apartment, & share a room). Chrissy also knows Cousin, & I hope he doesn’t have any influence on her.
Karen, whether or not that specific passage was in the original manuscripts, much in Scripture teaches a Trinity. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all portrayed as God, and as different persons, and yet God is one. It won’t be seen by those who refuse to see, yet it is there, and in many places.
There are people on this earth that you just cannot argue with because they are right and you are wrong no matter what the discussion is about and no matter how knowledgeable you happen to be about that subject.
The BEST way to deal with these people is to choose not to engage with them.
The second best way is to say “You may be right…” The unspoken part of that sentence is that they may be dumb as a box of rocks but you haven’t wasted too much of your time on them.
My Darling Boy (my 6th grade, gay boyfriend) posted this on his Facebook page today.
“Many people don’t know this, but it’s possible to read something you don’t agree with on the internet and simply move on with your life”. Wise words.
Got the connector….it’s not the connector…it’s the plug part on the printer…we got it to finally connect and ain’t nobody gonna touch that thing…it’s on…don’t touch it!! 🙂 Got a couple bags of ice was almost blown off the planet by the high winds in Monument and now home enjoying a cafe’ mocha I got at Kum and Go!
FWIW….the reason I have stayed and endured the difficulties at work has been to gain my neighbor’s trust while contributing in making her business an enjoyable and pleasant place to shop. She seems to trust no one….although she told me last week she trusts me implicitly…I try to go the extra mile to help her….she works tirelessly to make her business an enjoyable experience for her customers and she has such an artistic eye…and she loves our Lord deeply… ❤
I received an email from a real estate guru. He is starting a podcast from his “state-of-the-art” podcast studio.
Does that phrasing seem old and tired? It SCREAMED at me. If it is your new pod cast studio it stands to reason it is up to date on all the newest toys for doing that sort of thing. State of the art makes it sound like you are stuck in a 1970’s sound booth.
Kim, I never understood “state of the art.” “Up to date” makes sense, but why “state of the art”? It sounded like people were trying to speak in code, and others who knew the code understood.
I don’t like overuse of adjectives, anyway. Tell me you’re enjoying your new studio. I don’t need to know it’s a noise-muffling, sound-amplifying, high-fidelity, static-free studio.
As for YF’s cousin, I didn’t know he was going to be like that until I replied to him. Some people are misinformed or misunderstand something, but will accept an explanation. Others, like this young man & some others I’ve seen, think they know better than Christians who have studied the Bible for years. He’s probably read books that tell him this stuff.
But please pray for this young man (Joe). His mother (YF’s mother’s sister) is a believer, so I’m sure her son’s attitude towards the Bible & Jesus must break her heart.
Have mercy, just when I thought things couldn’t get any more weird today, my darling husband came home at noon and announced he’s going to retire….I’m having a difficult time wrapping my head around this one….all the changes, unknowns….and his departing date is May 15th….he hasn’t informed his boss yet, but feels led of the Lord….ummmm….just ummmmm
I think engaging is generally good to do, on a case-by-case basis; it does get tricky when other commenters are people you don’t know.
I still remember posting a comment on a friend’s post (she being a liberal Christian who strongly favors gay marriage) suggesting (politely) that there was another way to look at the issue and one of her friends went after me like a crazy person.
Mine came to me already retired. He was working in the medical field also, but after he had surgery in February of 2013 he has not been able to return to work.
I told Guy over the weekend that I was about to be X amount of dollars short every month. It has to do with BG’s child support. He put me through the 3rd degree pressuring me for details . I shouldn’t have to justify to him WHY I need to make more money!!!! So I understand how you are feeling because when I think of ME not working I can’t catch my breath.
Hubs is burnt out…he has been at this for over 30 years and he says he truly believes he is doing what the Lord is leading….I am finding my world shaken…which isn’t necessarily a bad thing….but, change is sometimes difficult for me…..
We would lose a bunch of weight around here if I had to do the grocery shopping. I went to buy a pound …that is ONE pound of ground beef. It was anywhere from $4 to $7 a POUND!!!!! The “cheap” stuff was unspecified ground beef with 20% fat.
I would say we would have to become vegetarians but they “ain’t” cheap either! No wonder poor people are overweight.
As has been mentioned before, by Donna, I think, sometimes we engage for the sake of others who may be reading.
YF has not replied to either Joe or me, & she has not “liked” any of the comments, although she has been back on Facebook since that exchange. So, uncharacteristically for her, she is staying out of it. I suspect that may be because she agrees more with me on those subjects than she does with her cousin, but she wouldn’t want to admit that. 🙂 Or she doesn’t want to argue with her cousin.
Regarding what Karen said … I remember a few occasions when I took the contrary view on liberal Christian posts that someone (another friend — whom I didn’t know — of the original poster) “liked” my comments so it kind of encouraged me that others were out there reading and following the discussion.
I think the key is being able to remain dispassionate (and if that ability flies out the window, leave the conversation). It’s not always easy. Karen does better than I do/would.
I also have to be careful due to my newspaper connection, so I don’t often dive into controversial political or religious (more likely to participate in religious discussions, however) threads.
That is a very good header photo. It’s a good thing our cats can’t get to all the birds that appear as headers or all we would have would be pictures of feathers.
Janice, it’s also a good thing our dogs can’t get to the cat header photos that occasionally appear, or all you’d see was the tip of the cat’s tail as it fled.
Welcome to my day a little earlier.

Cute bird with a red cap. 🙂
There’s a light, steady rain here this morning, which wasn’t in the forecast, very dark outside even though it’s almost 7:30 a.m.
Mondays come around awfully fast.
