Prayer Requests 1-7-16

It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her students, and the people of PNG.

Anyone else?

Psalm 59

¹Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.

Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Lord.

They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.

Thou therefore, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah.

They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear?

But thou, O Lord, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.

Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.

10 The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies.

11 Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

12 For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.

13 Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

14 And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

15 Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied.

16 But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

17 Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.

  1. Please pray for son to have safety in returning to school. Also, for my brother to soon get new employment. And, that Art’s upcoming procedure on Monday will go smoothly and have an easy recouperation with much less pain than previously. Thank you for your prayers.

  2. Pray that Carol will settle down, she called several times yesterday upset thinking that the residence staff is not giving her the proper potassium dosage (nor making any effort to provide the doctor-recommended diet).

She was on a tear, talking about reporting them to elder abuse, etc. Hoping she was able to sleep last night and can re-focus on other things today, but I will put a call in to the facility’s social worker.

  4. Me again. Please pray for my husband. He had a surgery consult today, and he’ll need to be at the hospital Monday morning at 5:30 for hernia surgery.

Yesterday he had a big run-around at the clinic; today it’s with his workplace. There are two HR employees, and neither of them are around. He’s getting conflicting information everywhere he turns regarding the workman’s comp claim, since he got injured at work Monday, and key people have not been returning his calls.

I don’t know how long his recovery period will be, but he was told by someone (one of his superiors?) at work that workman’s comp only covers 40% of his wage, and he is not allowed to use any of his over 260 hours of accumulated sick time to cover his absence from work when it’s a workman’s comp claim.

He used to have a short-term disability plan with a shorter wait period but higher premium, and he canceled that last year to go on his workplace disability plan with a lower premium and longer wait time because he figured he could use his sick days during the waiting period if he ever was laid up for a while.

So now that’s coming back to bite him in the you-know-what. (If the information he’s gotten so far is accurate — might not be, though. We can hope that he will be able to use some of those sick days in his recovery period, so our household income doesn’t take such a hit while he’s off work with this.)

Frustrating for both of us. 😦

  5. And if you didn’t see it on yesterday’s prayer thread, I posted last night that Jody has died.

Please continue to pray for Randy and Tatyanna, as well as Jody’s parents and siblings.

Both Jody’s mother (in her eighties) and Randy ended up in urgent care or the emergency room last night after Jody’s passing — extreme exhaustion, with dizziness and sick-to-their-stomachs symptoms.

Randy was with Jody when she passed, and broke down sobbing after having been very calm for the first 15 minutes or so after her death. Then the above-mentioned symptoms started.

Tatyanna was not at the hospital when her mom died. She had been in school that afternoon, and was at home when Randy called her to announce her mom’s passing. My brother and his family were at the hospital when Jody died, and my SIL reports that the phone conversation between Randy and Tatyanna was very difficult — Tatyanna didn’t take the news well, as you can imagine.

Randy was emotionally unable to clean out Jody’s hospice room. So one of her sisters did, instead.

Last night was the first night Randy was home since December 24. Some of Randy’s friends, including my brother, helped with getting vehicles parked at the hospital returned, and other things like that, and one of his friends planned to spend the night at Randy’s house, to help with the transition back home.

This concludes my updates on Jody’s family. Randy and Tatyanna have a long road ahead, as they acclimate to life without Jody. Thank you for your continued prayers.

  6. Companies hate when employees use the comp. because it goes against the company’s record. Maybe that is what is going on. They may be trying to discourage him from using it, if not in error. I would imagine, though, that both cannot be used at once. Would he be able to go on light duty or is that not an option with his job? That way he may not need quite as long actually off work. At any rate–prayers for it all.

  7. Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the good care You are giving to our prayed over loved ones. Our hearts are moved to pray because of the love You show daily. We identify with You through love. Knowing You always work toward the best for Your children, I again lift up the needs listed here. Please help Carol as she struggles with trust issues. She is so vulnerable. Help her to find ways that will work for her as a check to be sure the staff does a thorough job in caring for her.

Please help Michelle and Stargazer to remain focused on You and the good plans You are working out. Please give them a brainstorming session for vision to rival El Nino. Please give them clear direction of how to proceed and how You want them to be fruitful. May they be fully surrendered to You and Your plans without concern over what others may think.

Please bless Randy and Tatyanna as they learn new ways of coping in their lives without the blessing of Jody ‘ s daily participation. May they draw upon the goodness of her past influence and wisdom pressed into their lives. Please comfort them and halt any feelings of a negative sort as they process her death.

Lord, thank You for corrective surgeries and procedures to repair bodies. Thank You for skilled hospital staff and doctors who have spent years learning how to fix people internally when things are not right. I lift up 6 Arrow ‘ s husband and my husband as they anticipate surgeries on Monday. Please keep them healthy and ready to be restored to good health. I pray all the docs and staff will be in top shape for performing the necessary work. Please keep all who wait in anticipation in a calm and peaceful state of mind. Help us to fully cast all our cares on You. Please give excellent results without complications. And may recovery be relatively pain free or at least have controllable pain through prescription meds. Thank You that we can trust You through this. Please restore any lost income as You see necessary and help us to trust fully in Your provision in that regard. You are the ultimate Boss and provider of income. Thank You for all the goodness You give.

    In Jesus’ name, Amen

  8. He might be able to do light duty. Everything is a big question mark at this point, though. Answers have not been forthcoming, and some of it probably depends on factors yet unknown. HR did finally get back to him, though, and told him that there will be 2/3 compensation, and no tax taken out. Not sure of the tax ramifications of that, but at least 2/3 is better than 40%. Thanks for prayers.

  9. So sorry 6 arrows, that’s a real wrinkle in your world. 😦

Carol called and said she is going back to the hospital by choice, she is still very dizzy & her feet are numb — and, generally, she’s still in a fit over the staff at her residence. Carol has a temper (and she also tends toward deep paranoia), so it’s not a good situation right now.

Maybe she can get moved out of there sooner rather than later and she can just send them the check for the $208 that she still owes them (for back rent in April).

Pray that her anger dissipates and that if there are still medical issues that need attention she’ll get that as well.

  10. Praying, Donna. And I’ll echo what others have said about what a blessing it is, the friend Carol’s got in you.

Hope your and Stargazer’s day went well today, Michelle.

  11. 6 Arrows, I don’t know if you’ll see this, but I’m pretty sure that it isn’t taxable income–it’s insurance, not income, and thus not taxable as income tax, or something like that.
