  2. Good Morning Everyone. BG still isn’t feeling well. I was up with her in the middle of the night. She has a bad taste in her mouth and when she tastes it, it makes her nauseous. Luckily the doctor had given us some medicine for that, so I gave it to her and she got back to sleep. She has a follow up appointment today. I doubt we ever convince her to go have the top two removed after this experience. She also needs to learn that you do not text your mother in the middle of the night. I found 4 texts from her this morning telling me she was sick. Luckily Mr P heard her and told me to go check on her. He is also the one who remembered the anti- nausea medicine. Yep. I am up for Mother of the Year.

    Today is the day! I will meet Peter and Mrs. L!

  3. Re the header photo, I have liked sunflowers all my life. This year several are growing wild up and down the street, but I’m fairly sure they are from bird-dropped sunflower seeds from feeders. We have bunch in our own yard, under our feeder tree, but this is from the edge of a farmer’s field. I got a photo of the flower, but I saw those patterns and knew I had to zoom in on the center and get another shot, and that’s the one I really like.

  4. Good morning!

    I have not had coffee so I am barely functional. Some days I just do English Breakfast tea, but it never has that get moving attitude of coffee. Some days require both.

    Kim, once a child/young adult has lived away, they take some of the mothering with them to do for themselves. Your loss in that area is her gain. But it is great to see how that is working out with Mr. P stepping in and becoming a valuable and caring fortress in her life.

    Prayers for Jo to have a good day in the classroom.

  5. Thanks to Donna for the info on the book that was recommended to me. The title gave me a big clue as to its slant. “How to Read the Bible.” Since it was recommended at the writer’s group, perhaps it was meant to be read to give understanding of the attitudes we would face from readers of our work more than to persuade us to take on the opinions of the author. I don’t yet know the people in the group well enough to know where they stand on “issues,” but we were on the topic of evolution in one person’s writing.

  7. I had very easy to remove wisdom teeth. I don’t think I required an aspirin. It was a numb and yank procedure. I was fortunate.

    Do people ever outgrow getting mosquito bites? It seems they just wouldn’t like old blood. I have rwo new ones today. 😦 Surely my old blood has gone sour by now. Vampires have never been a bother.

  8. Strangely, I am not bothered by mosquitoes in Hendersonville, not even when I’m working around. There is a lake that the owners is letting dry up just a few hundred yards away. A good breeding ground, but we aren’t bothered by them.

    I did not sleep last night. I laid in bed and sleep did not come . . . well, maybe I snoozed from 10;45-11:30 or so, I don’t remember seeing 11 o’clock.

    But the rest of the night? Prayed for you all, including the L visit to Kim! 🙂

    Incredibly stupid week filled with things to do and all I want to do is write . . . 😦

  12. My wisdom tooth was out so easily my husband thought they had cancelled the appointment. The suffering for the whole month before was another story. That, however, is a long story. None of it is a comfort for poor BG. Pray it is healed soon.

    Six arrows: I know what you are going through with helping your parents. I was helped by the book, “She’s Your Mother, too” which helped me understand how my other sibling’s perspectives. It also gives some good advice on things not to do and how to do other things that need to be done. I only wish someone else would have read it!

    One thing to note is that parent’s tend to pick a caregiver. We all have different strengths and weakness; different relationships with our parents. Sometimes siblings are still fighting battles from long ago. It is very complicated. The siblings have to talk and that is not always easy. It can be a terribly frustrating time no matter how much you love and want to help out, especially when you are further away. Praying for you.

  13. The sunflower is awesome. It reminded me of a sunflower cake I made for one of my daughters. For some reason she wanted a sunflower themed party. She is also the one who once opted for a pink flamingo cake and all things pink for one birthday. 🙂

    I would think that buying something for cats to climb on would be a waste of money.

  18. Many years ago we were given a cat tree made from a piece of a tree. It was clever, functional & and brought nature indoors. That means it had bugs under the bark 😦 So we did not keep it.

  20. Re wisdom teeth: I had two removed by simple extraction, two by oral surgery. I opted on full anesthesia for the oral surgery, since I have a small mouth and just didn’t want to know about it. (And he showed me one of my teeth, impressed with how large it was.)

    I believe I got it done on a Friday so I could have the weekend off, or I tried to do that and they didn’t do that so I did it on a Thursday and took Friday off (I think that’s the way it went). I went to a friend’s house overnight. It bled a lot, and was a fair amount of pain. I ended up taking parts of several days off the next week; I don’t really remember what symptoms I had that made that necessary, just that it was.

  21. I am thinking of using a ladder for a fake tree for Miss Bosley. She has never known a real tree. Will give her a new throne to rule her kingdom from. She can easily view her subjects. A new stairstepping exercise equipment for cats, a totally up to the ceiling movement to wear them out, treadmill. 🙂

  22. Janice, if you ever watch My Cat From Hell on Animal Planet, you’ll see some amazing designs people make for indoor-only cats — tall wrap-around shelves near the ceiling, some stepping “down” to connect with something else on the wall …

    Cat trees are actually very clever and have been known to save your furniture (it’s worked for me — annie will curl up and sleep on my covered furniture, but I’ve never seen her using it as a ‘scratching post’ as she does the pillars on her cat tree — I also have other posts here and there in the house).

    The cat tree was important for me to get early on as I wanted to give her a place of escape from my 2 dogs. My dogs were not used to cats and I worried about them “packing” up on her once I finally introduced the two species (I kept Annie secluded in the spare bedroom and hallway for the first couple weeks as everyone got used to the different scents). She climbs outside to her heart’s content now, but in the beginning I had to keep her in the house to get her acclimated and she needed safety, if needed, from my dogs.

    The “tree” has been a godsend, she often plays and hangs out on it (she likes to sleep on the top platform and she’ll go charging up there at full speed when she wants to play and burn up some energy).

  23. I just returned from lunch with the L’s. There are photos but Mrs. L asked that I not send them. Both very nice people. Peter had the chicken and dumplings with fried okra and corn bread. Mrs. L had the veggie plate along with me but I convinced her to add the tomato pie to hers—You know, when in Rome…and all that. When you are in the South eat Southern Food. She even tried the chow chow on her field peas.
    We had a very pleasant visit and I sent them on their way along Scenic 98 (US Highway 98) towards Pensacola.

    That meal sounds really good, Kim. So glad you all got to visit. If some day I am traveling from Georgia to Texas to see son, is there anywhere we could meet that would be a compromise in miles? Just wondering? We may have a November trip since there is a conference out that way for husband to attend.

  34. only 52 degrees – INSIDE!! and no source of heat.
    However, that means it is absolutely clear and the view is amazing. I can see fog on the distant hills. Hopefully the sunshine will warm things up soon.

    So? When Jo posted that it was 54 degrees, inside. that means that it was 54 degrees at 7 a.m. in PNG.

  40. According to what I looked at on line, if it was 2:30 pm at my house, it was 7:30 am at her house (or at least in the Sydney, Australia time zone).

  41. My dear friend Marilyn assures me that Forrest’s behavior yesterday was “absolutely normal”, considering his life experiences (church not being one of them). I hope that the next time we have opportunity to take him to church, his two friends (brothers whose mom is Emily’s friend) are there. That may have helped, if he saw them there.

    Getting used to going to school may help, too. I still can’t believe that is about to happen.

  44. I get mixed up on the time too, since you all have daylight savings.
    Right now my children in California are 7 hours ahead of me and a day behind.
    So noon here is 7pm there, yesterday.
