Yesterday, Donna, Kim and 6 Arrows were discussing going through a lady’s stuff she left behind. Earlier the discussion came up and I mentioned that I might cull out some stuff and give it to Salvation Army or some other resale store.
So, I started that. Then, “Do I really want to get rid of those books by Jerry Pournell and Michael Creighton?” Yeah. But I was hoping to get around to The First Circle by Solzhenitsyn. But the print is mighty small.
It isn’t easy. Then I went to my two foot high stack of LP’s. It was easy pulling out Cathy Fink, Tedd Smith on the piano, and Songs of the Season. But I found an album of 78RPM ‘Al Jolsen records. What to do? I’m keeping them. They may be worth money. I will never sell them, but Linda will likely put them on e-bay someday
Oh yeah, that reminds me, she has a lot of record albums, too. 🙂 We didn’t even get to those yesterday. … There used to be a store in the area that sold those.
If anything becomes old enough and/or rare enough, it can bring at least some money from someone. eBay actually is a good place to go to find out the going rates on things.
🙂 Happy Fourth, although this one arrives with mixed feelings of course, the memory of a rainbow-lighted White House still fresh in our minds.
🙂 Made it up to Hollywood to take Carol out to dinner late yesterday afternoon, we went to a Denny’s on Sunset. Traffic wasn’t too bad (although it was congested going the other way on my way home, probably folks heading up to the Hollywood Bowl and other events going on last night.
😦 Ruined my dinner when I thought that the bottle of syrup they brought with our meals (I hadn’t realized Carol ordered pancakes) was vinegar for my fish and chips. Yeah, not a good condiment to be pouring all over fish and chips. Can’t take me anywhere.
😦 We’re always worried about fires here due to the drought (everything is so dry) and illegal fireworks. My neighbors are out for the evening and told me if the canyon (which runs alongside their house on the other side from me) catches fire, to be sure to rescue their 2 dogs from the house.
🙂 We survived the night with no fires (except a 1-acre brusher to the north of us that was put out quickly and a small fire just off the freeway-harbor bridge area in town that was also doused quickly).
😦 Too many illegal fireworks going ka-BOOM, some so loud they set of car alarms for blocks around from the sounds of it. It all went on until midnight, making nervous wrecks of my poor dogs.
😦 The police do little, it’s basically a night of allowable lawlessness. An LA fire captain said (at a meeting I was covering a week ago) that those nice, musical ice cream trucks that travel around are often used to sell illegal fireworks in neighborhoods. I had no idea.
🙂 Looking forward to church today. And I have a long time to look forward to it since it doesn’t start for another (almost) 6 hours. …
Lawyer: 2 missing British girls believed married in Syria
(CNN) Two of three British teenage girls who left the country in February, apparently to join ISIS in Syria, may now be married — but to whom? The Guardian newspaper, citing family members, is reporting that the pair have married men approved for them by ISIS. But a lawyer for the girls’ families told CNN he could not verify all aspects of the report.
The fire nearest our house is about 24,000 acres! Sounds huge, but it is in the middle of a national park with no residences and few structures nearby. The back country north of the townsite is close. That fire is about 45 miles away.
When checking for the value of objects on e-bay, compare the price a product was actually sold for, not the asking price. Anyone can ask for any price. It doesn’t mean they will actually get it.
🙂 We attended a family reunion with 170 or so relatives. We had name tags that told us who belonged to whom. I learned some new things. I was able to visit with some favorite cousins. My grandchildren had a ball, since the reunion was at a home with a swimming pool and beach, water slide, in ground trampoline, bounce house, pontoon boats and golf cart rides. The lake is known for the wonderful fireworks and they were very good.
🙂 A few days before the reunion, one of my uncles, who was a Korean POW, gave a short talk at a ceremony celebrating a new garden area for a Veteran’s clinic. An eagle scout from one of my cousin’s troop made the garden area. I was glad we were able to be there.
Chas, my little sister delights in calling me for my birthday and telling me I’m old. She’s only 15 1/2 months younger than me, which wasn’t even that significant when we were three and two! Of course, for three months every year I’m “two years older than her,” but most of the year it’s just one. But I think she enjoys that period when briefly I’m two birthdays ahead of her.
🙂 Good times this week with family, with extended family (in-laws), and with church family.
🙂 My extended birthday really was very nice. I got extremely sweet notes in cards from my husband and each of the girls.
🙂 We hung out at a state park for a while this afternoon (my husband and I and one daughter), and then he and I watched the women win the soccer match against Japan.

I sent a Jacque Lawson Birthday card to my baby sister.
I said “Happy Birthday baby sister”
She replied “Thanks big brother”
She turns 83 today.
😆
Good that we can still laugh about it.
