Good Morning!
Yesterday I took my daily trip over to check the neighbor’s bird feeders. They draw in birds I don’t usually see in my yard. This time the only birds there were sparrows. But I wasn’t the only one watching them. 🙂
On this day in 1690 one of America’s earliest newspapers published its first and last edition. The “Publik Occurences Both Foreign and Domestik” was published at the London Coffee House in Boston, MA, by Benjamin Harris.
In 1789 the first U.S. Congress adopted 12 amendments to the Constitution.
In 1965 Willie Mays, at the age of 34, became the oldest man to hit 50 home runs in a single season. He had also set the record for the youngest to hit 50 ten years earlier.
And 1978 Melissa Ludtke, a writer for “Sports Illustrated”, filed a suit in U.S. District Court. The result was that Major League Baseball could not bar female writers from the locker room after the game.

Good morning! Good evening, Jo. Becca’s up early today–but, she went to bed last night at eight, so still got plenty of sleep.
We’re having lunch with my parents today. They’ve been in town for a pump show and are headed home this afternoon.

Hi, Annms and Chas. Maybe Jo is enjoying her break?
That header photo is priceless, AJ! Those are two cute kitties ready to split the birds between them.
I did not feel well yesterday. Hope I feel better today. I want to enjoy the event this evening.

Question? How do you keep up with appointments, etc? What format of calendar/device works best for you and your family. Do you have several, or do you sync them?

I’m very high tech – I have a calendar that I write events on. However I still have to remember to look at the calendar.

I think that we need a caption contest for today’s header photo.

Re QoD. I tell Elvera. She keeps the calendar. Even for me
However, I do have a calendar of my own. They are pocket sized calendars the Purdue Alumni Assn sends us. And I keep them for reference.

Caption could be “What’s he doing here?” The cats are looking at Aj, not the birds.

Bird. It’s what’s for dinner.
Home again today. Didn’t sleep last night. Still stuffy, sneezy, achy, and have a sore throat and cough. I have lost my voice. This is my limit. I have to go to work tomorrow for sanity. Plus we are moving Saturday. Ugh.

Well we know at least one of them is a female. I am thinking the other one has to be a male because a calico won’t tolerate another cat if she can help it. Unless of course they are litter mates.

Good Morning all….those cats are probably concerned that AJ is going to scoot them away from their dinner…yikes!
I keep track of appts by writing them on the calendar which hangs inside my pantry door…that’s ground zero in our house!
Paul and his brother are touring this week…they went to Yellowstone yesterday and were quite disappointed….too many tourists and no hotel rooms to be had. No bears, no moose, no nothing…he said tourists were so desperate to get a photo that 25 cars would pull over just to take a photo of a squirrel running across the road! 😛
I’m hearing rumors that Donna and Michelle will be blessed with much needed rain in the coming days…thankful!!

SquEEEEEeeeeee — cat picture is entirely a hoot (though bird people may not think so). Perfect.
But that seriously is why I can’t have a bird feeder in my backyard. The cat would stalk the birds and the dogs would stalk the squirrels that come to raid the bird feeder. Not good for anyone.
nancyjill, they’re saying we here in SoCal may get some “drizzle.” We’ll take it! Maybe michelle will get more real rain. But anything helps.
And speaking of rain (and parades and being superficial), I watched the NCIS season opener online last night, I’d missed it the night before. Watched it on my laptop, they post the shows to watch free after they air on cbs.com.
I’m kind of low-tech when it comes to calendars so I write stuff in my Franklin Covey book I keep for work (since most of my appointments are work related anyway, or take place during the work day) — and/or I write them on the wall calendar in the kitchen.

Kim,
Yep, they’re litter mates, and about 10 months old. The guy who owns the cats lives in the upstairs apt. the owner rents to his son and 2 boys. They leave the window open for them and the cats are out there for several hours a day watching anything that moves. Thankfully that’s as close as they can get to the birds. Chuck has several feeders out, so the cats aren’t allowed in the yard.

So how does it make you feel when you discuss something with a co-worker and then they do it. Now she is giving out the pats on the back. I did the background work and made the suggestions to the agents.

Yes there is. Somewhere, something is happening. We just don’t know about it.

Calendars: we’re low-tech here, too. The calendar on the sort-of wall between our living and dining rooms is where we write our activities. (Sometimes.) The regular things that occur at predictable intervals and always at the same time don’t get written down. It’s the now-and-then things, like dentist appointments, for example, and 1st Arrow’s work schedule, which varies, that get written down.

Rained beautifully last night and today is a mix of clouds and glorious blue. I had a lovely walk which was important since I didn’t sleep last night and I have a ton of brain work to do today–of course!
Plotting another novella and rewriting the opening to Poppy–Poppy is first up.

I understood 6 Arrows cat talk. Cats are like that. They pretend nothing is going on until,”Gotcha!” I have been well trained by Miss Bosley.

We are all probably people who want to know what is going on. Consider where we came from…Worldmag blog, the Christian place to find out what is going on.
A bird is fussing outside the window here so something is going on as far as Miss Bosley is concerned. She’s making movements to get at it. Obviously the bird can’t see The Boz or it would be quiet.

I have just finished reading The Looming Tower by Lawrence wright. The title is taken from Sura 4:80 “Wherever you are. Death will find you, even in the looming tower” It’s about the 9/11 attack gives complete background from Islamic and American standpoints. It’s an interesting book. Well worth reading. I have copied several excerpts which I may post from time to time. From p. 582
“In the morning, one of Maha’s sons went to check on the Zawahiris. He found that the house they were in had been struck. The cement roof had collapsed, pinning Azza underneath. The rescuers had found little Aisha injured but still alive, and the set her outside on a bed while they tried to save Azza. She was still alive, but she refused to be evacuated because of her fear that men would see her face. Eventually, her cries stopped. When the rescuers finally returned to take care of the child, they discodered that she had frozen to death.”

Early rant: I LOVE listening to Classical Minnesota Public Radio while online, because of the wonderful classical music they play, but their liberal bias with news items irritates me something awful. I press the mute button when the news comes on, but occasionally they’ll just mention a brief news headline in between musical selections.
Just now, they broadcast one such (two-sentence) headline. The program host announced that Eric Holder was resigning, and in the second sentence said, “His tenure was marked by…”
The Fast and Furious scandal? Contempt of Congress charges? Anything like that?
Noooo. But four of his apparent “accomplishments” were mentioned, and nothing else.
Grrr.
I wish they’d just stick to playing the music. 😦

Well, I didn’t get to have lunch with my parents yesterday. My MIL fell out of bed Wednesday night and cut her arm. She was too weak to get up and laid on the floor for hours. Her neighbor checked on her around 7:30 as she’s been sick and took her to the hospital. I met them at the hospital and stayed until Hubby could get there around 2:00. She has pneumonia and they think the cancer has metastasized to the lung. In addition, Becca had the vomit virus yesterday. Please say a prayer for my MIL and my sweet husband.

Thanks, Jo. Today, they’re going to check the tumors in her brain as she’s having some symptoms that are cause for concern. Her friend told me she doesn’t think she should be living alone anymore nor driving. My MIL is a fiercely independent woman and doesn’t like needing help from others. The doctor said she’d be in the hospital until at least tomorrow, so Scott’s going to see her this afternoon.
