Okay, all you football fans out there. It’s time to play along by the rules. And since one member of the audience forgot or ignored or just didn’t ask, here they are:
You must pick the winner for each of the ten games listed below.
You must also predict the final score of the tie breaker game. (Anyone can predict the starting score of 0 – 0.)
You must post your guesses on this thread before 7:30PM EDT Thursday, 25th of September of this year (2014).
You may make comments about each game if you so wish, as long as said comments abide by the high standards AJ has established for this herd of cats.
Winner of this contest gets to pick the tie breaker game for next week. Siad winner is decided based on number of games correctly guessed and the closest to the actual score of the tie breaker game, in case two or more players get the same number of correct guesses.
Winner is not selected based on the percentage of correct guesses. In other words, guessing one game and being correct does not make you the winner.
So, here are your choices:
-
#11 UCLA @ #15 Arizona State – Another big game in the PAC-12. This one should decide the South winner of that conference.
-
Iowa @ Purdue – A B1G battle between two schools with ties to this blog. Chas’s alma mater hosts the team from Mrs L’s home state.
-
Missouri @ #13 South Carolina – Another contest with the same ties as game #2.
-
Tennessee @ #12 Georgia – SEC favorites aronud here. Or at least there used to be someone who favored the Volunteers. Does anyone still have contact with Anlir?
-
Army @ Yale – While this game has no major signifincance in the larger realm, some of us like Army.
-
Boise State @ Air Force – We all know who will pick the visitor in this game.
-
#8 Notre Dame vs Syracuse – For some reason, this game of Green vs Orange is being played at a neutral site in East Rutherford, NJ. I guess someone fears a war between Irish immigrants on the home turf of one of the participants.
-
Harvard @ Brown – Hey, why not include two more Ivy League teams fo! r thye fun of it?
-
Pillow Fight: Fresno State @ New Mexico – I am reinstating a Pillow Fight, a game between two struggling programs, usually with no wins between them. I would have chosen a different game, but there is already a game with an Idaho connection here.
-
TB Duke @ Miami (FL) – AJ’s choice. Pick the winner and the final score.
UCLA
Iowa
South Carolina
Georgia
Army
Boise State
Notre Dame – Of course they win, they’re playing in Giants Stadium, my other favorite team’s house. 🙂
Harvard
Fresno State
DUKE!!!!!!!!! 🙂 28-20

It looks like I forgot to proofread.
My picks:
UCLA – I don’t like it much when the upstate rival of my Wildcats wins.
Iowa – Neither team seems to be doing well this year. This could have been the pillow fight.
Mizzou- RAH! – They got embarrassed in Indiana last week. Watch out, Roosters!
Georgia – Any reason not to guess this team?
Army – I just can’t imagine Ivy League schools having great athletes.
Boise State – No reason other than a certain “younger” member of our community.
Syracuse – Only because I don’t like ND. And it’s basically a Catholic vs Protestant game.
Harvard – Don’t know why, though.
New Mexico – Home field. I understand their “pit” is hard on visitors, based on memories of when Arizona and NM were in the same conference.
TB- I’ll say Miami 21-20, only because of home field advantage, even though I don’t like Florida teams that much.

Chas’ wild guesses:
UCLA
Purdue. This is real iffy. But I’m going with the Boilers anyhow. Home field has never been much advantage in W. Lafayette.
South Carolina. I worry about this because the Tigers lost a heartbreaker last week and they come to our Columbia mad, with something to prove.
Georgia. The Vols don’t have it this year.
Army. I don’t know why.
Boise because I’m scared not to. :-)
Notre Dame Syracuse used to have a powerful team. Not so much anymore. The same can be said for ND, BTW. But I’m going with the Irish.
Brown. I don’t know why. Did you know that Brown used to be a Baptist school?
New Mexico ???
Miami 14/Duke 7 I hate to do this because I don’t really like Miami for some reason

I am a little late to the game, but, encouraged by the creativity of a certain Idahoan, I shall proceed to participate in a highly fun and original way. These are my guesses:
1. UCAZ
2. Purwa
3. Misslina
4. Georgessee
5. Yalmy
6. Go BoiForce
7. Syradame
8. Browvard
9. Pillow defeats Fight
10. Dukami 27-21
I also predict there will be a new list of rules (or at least an addendum) next week. 😉

Cute, 6 arrows. I see you’re predicting every game to end in a tie, except for the last one.
And I see UCLA put the Sun Imps in their place. I mean, it’s one thing to lose to a better team at home, but to lose by 35 points? What an embarrassment.

We couldn’t have a tie on the tiebreaker, now could we. 😉

And the winner is: Yours truly. No, I didn’t cheat. I just pulled off a closer tie breaker score among the 5 people who had the most wins correct, two of which did not guess the tie breaker game winner.
The game results are:
UCLA 62 – ASU 27 (Bruins prove ASU is not really a contender)
Iowa 24 – Purdue 10 (Chas’ teams didn’t fare too well)
Mizzou 21 – So Carolina 20 (So did Chas have any finger nails left?)
Georgia 35 – Tennessee 32 (Another close one)
Yale 49 – Army 43 in OT (No one predicted this outcome)
Air Force 28 – Boise 14 (Only Tychicus got this one)
Notre Dame 31 – 15 (yeah, I and 2 others had hopes of an upset)
Harvard 22 – Brown 14
Fresno St – 35 – 24
Miama (FL) 22 – Duke 10
Our results (TB=points off tie breaker):
wit 6 correct:
Peter L (Mois) TB=11
TRW TB=17
Tychicus TB=22
AJ TB=n/a
Mumsee TB=n/a
5 correct: kbells, IBNO, Rickyweaver
4 correct: Cheryl, Chas, Janice
So, Mumsee beat some of the regulars, but didn’t win based on her tie breaker guess.

Well, now, this appears to be a wee bit embarrassing…what with the acceptance speech and all. It appears I got a little bit ahead of myself on this. So sorry. Guess? I guessed? I thought that was some sort of educated stab. Well, congratulations older brother. And you run the thing, eh? Somehow…never mind. Congratulations. Good guessing.

Kbells- You are correct, you had 6 correct. But your tie breaker was off by 17, so you tied with TRW.

It was worth a shot. With my lack of competitive spirit it could be years before I get this close to winning something again. 🙂

Too bad I got my picks in after hours. Otherwise I would have scored a five, as it seems to me I got each pick half-right.
Right, Peter? Right?
You know I’m right.

Football is a stupid game. It’s possible to lead by 13 points until the last minute and still lose.
