Good Morning!
It’s Friday!!!
On this day in 1774 the first session of the U.S. Continental Congress convened in Philadelphia.
In 1793, in France, the “Reign of Terror” began. The National Convention enacted measures to repress the French Revolutionary activities.
In 1836 Sam Houston was elected as the first president of the Republic of Texas.
In 1877 Sioux chief Crazy Horse was killed by the bayonet of a U.S. soldier. The chief allegedly resisted confinement to a jail cell.
And in 1914 the Battle of the Marne began. The Germans, British and French fought for six days killing half a million people.

Is today April 1st?
That looks like a turtle to me!
I know I need new glasses, but have my eyes gotten that bad?
Lots to do today. I need to find time to look into my phone situation. I know the new Galaxy 5 is suppose to be better with longer lasting power. I was going to post a prayer last night but instead had to charge the phone.
Bosley has been in Fighty/Bitey mode lately. I hope for a quick return to Lovey/Dovey. She has her moods and she does not need a mood ring to let the world know.

Haven’t I told you over the years that if I could find a reason to laugh I would be able to survive?
Yesterday was one of those days. Real Estate License renew every even year. The deadline to renew without penalty is August 31st. The state in its infinite wisdom gives you until the end of September to get all of your CE’s in.
I am somewhat of a procrastinator, but not to the degree of some people. Starting back in March I had one of our Brokers who is a CE instructor give a free class every month. Classes are 3 credits and you need 15. My agents could have gotten all of their CE’s for FREE, but they didn’t.
I have convinced the instructor to do 2 more days of classes for 12 hours of credit. I opened it up to all Baldwin and Mobile agents to get enough people in the class to make it worth his time and he is charging this time.
I spend several hours yesterday creating an email flyer to send out. I had it to suit the instructor but the receptionist sent it to the president of the company before she would send it out for me. Well OF COURSE he HAD to make changes. (This isn’t as simple as you would think). Finally I get it sent out to about 2000 agents and as one of mine is walking out the door I hear her thank the receptionist for getting her all the information on the class!!!!!!!!
I feel like the mole in Whack A Mole but I try to convince myself that I am a Weeble, because Weebles Wabble But They Don’t Fall Down.

Not politically correct by today’s standards, but an endearing characteristic.
Cccccoffee, pppplease?

Janice, look at your phone settings and adjust the time your phone stay lighted up after you use it. That sucks a tremendous amount of battery. Next make sure you have all of the apps closed when you finish using them. Recently BG showed me where I had app after app of the same apps opened on my phone and that was draining my battery.

Thanks, Kim. I am never quite sure which apps are safe to kill. I have been doing that some. I also use power saving mode. I think my power charging cord may be an issue since the phone charges faster on the car charger.

Don’t delete the app, just close it. You can always reopen it. Which Galaxy do you have?

Chas, yep, it’s a teenager (an adolescent, anyway). If you click on the photo or my name, you can see it bigger. Then you’ll see: (1) his bill is black, not red like an adult male’s (though it seems to be changing color) and (2) he’s getting a lot of red feathers, but he still has a lot of his juvenile plumage. Apparently there were at least two males in his nest that survived, because I saw two of the changelings together next door a couple days ago, but I’ve only been seeing one (or one at a time) in our tree. I think he’s beautiful but funny too.

You can google to find out how to “close” an app on your particular phone. On the iPhone you just hit the main menu button twice and they all show up as small screen shots on your phone — then you just slide each of them upward and they go away (the app is still there, but it means it’s “closed” on your phone, no longer open and running).
I never realized that apps stayed open after you were done using them and went back to the general screen.

We’re getting a little fall-like weather here, at night anyway. But we typically get some of our warmest days in September-October. So while we’ve escaped much of the 90-100+ degree weather this summer, we’re kind of bracing for it to show up this month. 😦
And there’s another hurricane coming up from Mexico along the Pacific, so we could get more humidity (which it would just all-out rain!) this weekend from that. And some more big surf.
Saw on fb where our pastor and his (teen) son both won awards at the recent beach volleyball tournament here. Cute father-son pic ran in our beach weekly edition.

I’m checking out soon for 10 days; off to miserable weather in Cancun.
It reminds me of my comment to Mumsee a couple weeks ago, that I wish I could go to a quiet monastery for a long weekend undistracted by real life and really listen to God.
Looks like I’m getting my wish! 🙂

Kim, I have the Galaxy 4.
I need to read the link Donna posted. I noticed on my phone I had left open the messaging app which makes sense to do, right? If you close it I suppose it would save and dump when reopened, but maybe it does not save them that are trying to post when the app is closed? That has been my type of concern. Just how smart is this phone?

I did find out yesterday that if I am in a wifi location, I can turn the phone to on for wifi and utilize that instead of using the mobile. I did that at the office but forgot to turn it off. So at home I had to switch back to off for wifi to make a call. Does that mean I could not receive calls this morning?
So many questions. Smartphones are designed to reveal the ignorance of their owners.

Time to process the grapes. I have never done the grapes. That is husband’s job. Thirteen year old daughter is harvesting them for me. She has brought in one five gallon bucket and has started the second. I suppose that means I am supposed to do something.

No. You will get your messages no matter what. Your phone is smarter than all of us combined. I don’t understand having to turn the wifi off to make a call. You shouldn’t have to do that. I doubt you have missed any calls.

The turtle reminds me of a roommate who was an assistant to the herpetology professor at my university. He had an aquarium with various turtles in it, including a box turtle like the one above. He would spend weekends in creeks and ponds studying turtles. Occasionally he would bring one home. Once they ran over a small soft shell turtle, about the size of the old silver dollar. He kept it and it grew to be about 6 inches in diameter, then got out of the aquarium. We couldn’t find it at first, but eventually did under the couch when we noticed a bad smell. It died there.
he even collected some. He purchased a Chinese box turtle, which had red spots and a jagged shell, if I remember correctly. Mostly, though, he had box turtles.

Mumsee, making juice is only going halfway. But I suppose you have too many minors in your household to do anything else. (Personally I still like grape juice better than wine, though we’ve found a few good wines.)

Because my grandfather was an alcoholic and I have seen the results and because I see my own personality, I have chosen not to drink. But I am growing a vineyard so when Proverbs 31:6 comes to pass, I will be ready. Today I make juice, because it is good and supposed to be helpful for blood pressure. Another day, I plan to learn to make it into wine. And when it is properly aged, to consume it. Until then, I enjoy grape juice, the taste and the smell.

Mumsee, grape juice is my favorite juice. And I understand. There’s no alcoholism in my family but I come from a family of teetotallers. The youngest three of us drink (in moderation), the others not at all. We have maybe a glass a week, hardly anything excessive, though we did enjoy a little bit with lunch on the deck.

Donna, thanks for the instructions. Everything is now closed on my ipad. I used to know how to do that, but then downloaded a new operating system that changed everything. It seems that everything was open. No wonder the battery went down so fast!

I hate grape juice. My favorite is V8. Thinking about it I don’t think I like any fruit juice. Mostly I drink coffee and water with wine “on the side”. I drink a lit of water.

I like grape juice. We use to prepare communion once a month and always had left over juice to enjoy after fixing all those little cups. I don’t buy grape juice much now. We do drink Simply Orange juice now because it is good for using in some cooking along with drinking. I still remember as a child loving Hawaian Punch. That was the drink of choice for our girls spend the night parties.

I don’t drink juice either. But I heard that it was good for blood pressure so I try to remember to drink it. It is much better from our own grapes because we know the effort that goes into them.
Ok, I give up. There is virtually no effort that goes into growing grapes. The water system is hooked into the cow watering so when daughter waters the cow, she waters the grapes. Every now and then, clip a green stick and poke it in the ground to grow a new vine. That is it.

I drink Simply Orange, too — love grape juice but I don’t buy it often. We use wine in communion.
