Good Morning!
It’s Friday!!!
On this day in 1898 the Canadian Yukon Territory was organized.
In 1912 Captain Albert Berry made the first successful parachute jump from an airplane in Jefferson, Mississippi.
In 1927 Charles Lindbergh was honored with a ticker-tape parade in New York City.
In 1943 German spies landed on Long Island, New York. They were soon captured.
And in 1978 Israelis withdrew the last of their forces from Lebanon.

Morning Chas. Just back from 6th grade graduation. A sweet bunch of kids. One girl returned late this afternoon to be with her friends and was part of graduation.
Quints have arrived, though I didn’t get to be part of the greeting committee.

Do you have a native language greeting for hello, Jo?

I just got back from the Y.
It seems mighty quiet around here.

Always love me some Johnny Cash. Wing a fiah was one of BG’s first songs.
You notice the first parachute jump was in Mississippi. Of course it had to be there because the joke is “what is the last thing a redneck says? Hey ya’ll watch this!” Like I’ve always said we don’t hide crazy in the South, we parade it out on the front porch and give it a cocktail. In this case I am thinking it was probably moonshine.

So, it’s Friday the 13th, is it? My son’s favorite day, since he was born on a Friday the 13th. Funny how superstitions arise. I wonder what happened to make 13 an undesirable number, and a Friday the 13th unlucky? Maybe in this culture we should start calling Tuesday the 11th unlucky. (In Spain, it’s Tuesday the 7th that get the superstitious people all in a kerfuffle.)

In this week’s funnies there is one that makes a point most “greens” don’t realize. The first panel shows a couple with the woman is wearing a green shirt that says “What part of coal is clean?” She is saying (with a smug look on her face) “The EPA is finally taking down the coal industry.” Her man then says to her, “Our electric car runs on coal.” Her look is no longer smug.
A lot of people don’t realize that though they are using a clean electric car, someone else is probably getting the pollution form a coal powered electric plant. Yes, the roads may be cleaner, but the overall air quality is the same or worse. If every American driver bought an electric car, a major problem would arise: There would not be enough electricity left for other uses. And there would still be coal powered electric plants working at overload capacity to provide the power.

Excellent point, Peter, and it describes CA, where our oldest nuclear power plant is being decommissioned. It went through an enormous refit to last another 50 years and something was done wrong. The powers that be signed off on the error and the system failed. People in southern CA have lost one of the major sources of clean energy and will also be paying the bill–for the rest of most of their lives for something a person in “power” failed to do.
Sounds familiar, no? 😦
And our grid, of course, is full.
Thanks for the refreshing photo for this drought stricken Californian today.
In other news, I’ve been reading reports of Iraq and am sickened.
I can hardly wait to get in the car for a six hour drive with a 3 year old and an 8 month old. Seriously concerned about my attitude . . .

Yes, Michelle, that car ride sounds like a lot of fun. How about if you add a dog subject to carsickness and one that whines the whole time it’s in the car, just to make sure it’s a really memorable trip?

Actually, Michelle, Misten rides really, really well. She lies down on the backseat, sitting up occasionally to look out the window (e.g., if a semi passes us in the next lane or we stop at a traffic light after many miles of moving without a pause). But a dog my family had briefly when I was a child would get carsick and throw up (when three kids and a dog share the backseat, the last thing you want is a vomiting dog), and my husband’s previous dog would get so excited about car rides he whined nonstop. I thought a couple dogs like that might be just what you needed.

Remember the poem I wrote about the truant dental floss?
Well, a neighbor across the street gave me two pairs of surplus glasses to take to the Lions.
Now, it’s time to go to Lions and I can’t find those gasses anywhere.
Frustrating.
But they are somewhere.
And I will find them someday.
And the Lions will take them then.
It’s still irritating something terrible.

Well, I see you guys and (mostly) gals were over the top last night, and still posting to that thread into the next afternoon. I never found any ice cream, but what a mess of eggs all over the floor!
Peter, I do lurk a lot, but I’m usually around just mid-day, not in the evening, so I miss all the fun.
I may surprise y’all some day though.

I think I’m done racing for a while — it feels like I’ve been in a non-stop sprint around here the last three days. 🙂
Speaking of running, I mentioned recently I was considering taking up running again. Well, that’s not going to be a go, because my running shoes are very beat up, and wouldn’t be good to run in, and we don’t have money in the budget for a good pair. Besides, my husband reminded me that I’m not as young as I used to be 😉 and since I have run very little in the last 20 years, maybe I should just walk more. So, that’s what I’ll try to do.
Hubby is continuing to do well with running, though, at age 54, because, well, he has been continuing.
However, he, too, is not as young as he used to be — he took 6th Arrow (age 6) along with him to a store recently, and someone asked her, “Are you having fun today shopping with Grandpa?” LOL
He thought it was funny, too, and laughed telling the story later. 🙂

I was told to enjoy the full moon tonight since it will be the last Friday the 13th full moon until 2049. So? Does that mean those affected by full moons get weirder tonight? I guess we’ll find out.

I am taking a break from mowing the lawn. Did someone mention humidity? At least it is cooler. Our front yard looks like a rain forest with the great waterings we’ve had lately. The lawnmower is struggling and so is the human pushing it. I am trying to not mow down the passion flower sprouts. There are more than ever this year. But it makes for tricky mowing. It won’t be pretty in other words when I am finished leaving little patches.

Hi Jo! Good to see you and always nice to see you not pushing folk over just for a number.
What is on the docket for the rest of the day? I am just in from feeding the dogs. Seems one of the children left for a job and though she remembered to find somebody to milk the cow, she neglected the part about walking and feeding the dogs. That is what moms are for, I suppose.
Are you expecting snow in this fine winter season?

Well, I suppose Jo has gone sledding and has no time to chat. Or maybe she is building a snow man or making snow angels. Perhaps she is skiing or snowshoeing. Since she is too busy to chat, I really must be off to bed before I fall asleep right here. Good night, Jo.
