Good Morning!

It’s Friday!

And not just any Friday, this is the Good one. 🙂

Today’s header photo is from Peter.

Today we have one of my favorite Easter songs. Yes, I know it’s a kid’s song, but I can’t help it. 🙂

From Veggie Tales Official

Next up, a great rendition of another of my favorites.

From The Piano Guys, also a favorite. 🙂

  1. Good morning everyone.
It’s Friday, you know what that means?
No Lions today. But off to the Y momentarily.
Where”s Jo? She’s usually the first one here.

  2. Morning, Chas.
I did spend time at the weight room today.
Had a good time learning to level books today and got several sets leveled for my classroom. I am excited to reorganize things to better serve my kids or my goats!

  3. This is so strange to comment with you from a different day on the other side of the world. God is good. My quiet little life over here relating to your busy lives in a busy world.
Praying for Aijusuun, for strength to make it through these last few weeks.

Is that a Buutterfly Weed plant, Peter? Great shot!

    it’s Friday Funnies day.

And, it’s a great day for our Good Friday service. It is always very meaningful.

  5. Looks like a lilac to me, but then, flowers do tend to have lots of different names depending on the region. Our butterfly plant has much different shaped leaves and the flowers are tinier. But both kinds attract lots of butterflies and hummingbirds and hummingbird moths, which means they also attract cats which leap into the shrub in an effort to kill the flier and decimate the plant at the same time..

  6. Good Morning Everyone. My Question of the Day is, “Have you ever worked for a company that closes on Good Friday?” I do. It is amazing that it is Spring and a Friday and we are closed with all the agents being encouraged NOT to work this weekend and spend time with family and loved ones.
I took yesterday off and was Mrs. Anglican Church Lady. We had about a hundred people for a Seder Meal at church last night. I got to church yesterday at about 9:30 and got home about 9:30 last night. I was kitchen and set up/break down staff. We served matzo ball soup, salad, beef brisket, carrots, and macaroons. We went through the whole Passover meal with instruction. I loved it. When Jesus took the wine and offered it to the apostles He was following the Passover tradition of four cups of wine. It was very interesting. A lot of preparation went into it before I ever showed up. It would be very hard work to be Jewish.

  7. It is especially hard work for a Jewish woman, unless she has help. Her house has to be spotless. No hint of anything that could be levin in the house.

  8. When I posted good morning to Chas I had not seen Jo’s comment. No neglect intended. Good evening, Jo. Good morning to the rest of yous guys (trying to imitate the greeting that might be used in the north).
“Wake up, y’all,” for the southern crew.

We had a nice Seder last night. The fellowship hall was full.

  9. It looks like a lilac variation to me, too.

When I worked years ago in a large department store, similar to Target, we were closed from noon to 3pm. All businesses pretty much were shut down, at least, during those hours.

We also always got off school from Thursday to Monday. Our last day before vacation was Wednesday and the first day back was Tuesday. That way families could go visit extended family or whatever.

Of course, this was back when you could have Christmas vacation and Easter break.

  10. Other than part time for a couple of years, I cannot say I have ever worked so I guess I have not worked for one that closed or one that stayed open.

  11. Did you know there’s a company that even makes kosher pet food? For those who are really observant about sweeping their homes and pantries …

Sounds like a rich evening, Kim.

I’m facing a long day I’m afraid, still trying to cobble together that Easter story.

I love butterflies! And every once in a while a big moth gets inside. Those are special playmates for Annie Oakley who’s sure to break a lamp one of these nights.

  12. We had a Maundy Thursday service–a dozen men acted out the last supper with singing around it all and communion at that table set before the altar. My husband played James.

Tonight is the Tenebrae service–very dramatic. Here’s a popular blog post I wrote about what the Tenebrae is: http://michelleule.com/2012/04/06/the-passion-of-the-tenebrae-service/

In other news, our missionary friend Hillary has set up a calendar and asked her supporters to fill it in–taking a day each month to pray for her and Sicily for half an hour. She’s got five slots left . . . and has been approached by several people who’ve basically said, “How can I pray for half an hour? I’m sorry, but once I’ve asked God to bless you and answer all your prayer requests, what more can I say?

Yesterday was our day and I’ve detailed how I prayed that long on her blog: http://faithfulstill.wordpress.com/2014/04/17/on-p-r-a-y-ing-for-half-an-hour/

Time to walk the lake. I have to work this morning but don’t anticipate staying the full day, if very long at all.

  13. Lilacs!!! We have those up here and butterflies just like that one too! Of course, we are under another snowfall warning and it’s below freezing again today. Sigh. Will spring never come?

Good Friday is a statutory holiday in Canada. My offices have always taken Easter Monday as well, for an extra long weekend 🙂

  14. Of course it’s a lilac. Can’t you smell it? My favorite flower and my favorite smell in the world. It reminds me of the end of school and the beginning of summer from my childhood. The most magical time in the world, next to Christmas!

To Kim’s question, the Silicon Valley networking company my husband and daughter work for is closed for Good Friday! Amazing!

  16. I can’t remember for sure, but it seems when I worked at the home office building of Days Inn that Cecil Day gave Good Friday as a holiday. They also had weekly devtions for employees. The State Patrol headquarters office also had a weekly devotional program for employees. And when I worked at the church preschool we may have had Good Friday off.

  18. Sometimes we open our mouths and our parents speak. Chloe came and got me to go shopping. She drove. I managed not to let my father say, “Young lady when you get a speeding ticket, don’t come to me to pay it.” We bickered over my driving all the time, as a matter of fact, he may have complained as I drove him to the hospital the last time.

  19. Glad you had that time with her, Kim.

Since I was the one who got to teach son to drive, it is still difficult for me to be the passenger while he drives. He always felt I was over critical while I just thought I was into lifesaving. 🙂
I wish he could have learned from someone else, but I was available. It can be rather damaging to a relationship to have to be the guinea pig that gets to be a passenger with a new driver when you have nothing except your voice with which to control the situation. At least driver ed people have controls on their sides.

  20. I pretty much have grown out of pushing my foot down on the floor when I am in the front passenger seat, when one of my daughter’s is driving. Perhaps, I really do realize there is no brake there. 😉

My husband always had Good Friday as a holiday. That did not mean he would have the day off, however.

  21. I saw butterflies today while doing this hike with my husband this morning–Russian Ridge. It’s a beautiful hike all year, but right now, with the wildflowers in full bloom, it’s even more breathtaking!

We didn’t see any mountain lions, though. There are, allegedly, mountain lions in all the open space preserves around here, and plenty of signs warning people what to do if they see one. But no one ever, ever sees one.

  22. Yes, it’s a lilac- one of my favorite flowers. That bush is one we cut from a friend’s bush. She has some old ones that are at least 15 feet tall. We got three cuttings- one white, two purple. D2 thought she had lost the pretty purple ones, because one of them died. It turns out this bush was planted so close to the white one that they grow together.

And of course, It’s Friday! Sorry it’s late but I forgot this morning, thinking I’d get to it, but got busy.

  23. Lilacs! My favorite and I never get to see them any more.

My dad taught me to drive. He taught the oldest and the youngest and my mom taught the 3 in the middle. Because he taught me, he had confidence in my ability and would let me take a turn driving on long trips. My mom didn’t get to drive but I did! Part of that was because our car had a bench seat in the front and I learned to drive long legged even though I’m not that tall. So I kept the seat far enough back for him to sit comfortably in the front passenger seat.

  24. Easter story done. The assignment editor liked it so that was a relief since I was literally flying blind. But I interviewed a former missionary this morning who gave me the personal story I really needed.

I have a couple of passengers who are “co-” drivers. 🙂 They’re always telling me what to watch out for, what lane I should be in, etc.

  25. Oh, Donna, don’t you hate that? My husband, my close friend, and my 17-year-old daughter all do that to me. I sometimes wonder how they think I ever drive from point A to point B without their help. When I’m the passenger, unless the driver is driving like a maniac, I barely pay attention to what’s going on on the road around them. I wish more people would have that confidence with me. Especially my daughter who I’ve been driving around since she was born without incident, and whom I taught to drive myself just a couple of years ago! When I ask them why they don’t trust my driving, they insist that they do, but they’re just being helpful. I’ve come to the conclusion that the kind of people who feel anxious when they aren’t in control of their environment are the kind of people who do this.

Also, when I first read your post, I initially thought you said, “I invented a former missionary…” I thought, oh no, you’re not that kind of journalist are you? Haha

  26. I sometimes wish I could invent sources. Then I’d get all the perfect quotes I needed. 🙂

Yes, co-pilots on the road can be very annoying. “Watch that bicyclist … Make sure that other car doesn’t try to go first …. Do you see that kid at the corner? … Now watch because is think that car is about to back out … ”

    And on it goes.
