What’s interesting in the news this weekend?

Open thread weekend!

Here’s 2 to ponder.

1. The daughter of Obama’s former pastor has been convicted of fraud.

From MSNNews  “The daughter of President Barack Obama’s former pastor was convicted on Friday of laundering thousands of dollars from a state grant for a Chicago-area job-training program, federal prosecutors said.

A federal jury took less than two hours to find Jeri Wright, 48, the daughter of Jeremiah Wright, guilty on all counts for her part in a fraud scheme led by a former suburban police chief and the chief’s husband, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Central District of Illinois in Springfield.

The $1.25 million state grant was for a not-for-profit work and education program called We Are Our Brother’s Keeper, owned by Regina Evans, former police chief of Country Club Hills, and her husband, Ronald Evans Jr.”

2. Now I kept thinking I’d heard of this program before, and I was correct. Obama has started the same kinda program.

From CNN  “President Barack Obama spoke Thursday at the White House, where he announced “My Brother’s Keeper” – a new initiative to help young men and boys of color succeed.

He described the program as one that “goes to the very heart of why I ran for President” and dove into his own life to explain why such an initiative is needed, speaking candidly about his father, drugs and race.

A White House official said Obama improvised a good portion of his remarks and was more emotional than many planners of the event had anticipated.”

The same kinda program, also with roots in Chicago. Do you doubt for a minute the federal program won’t be a fraud filled affair as well? Birds of a feather and all. This is how they operate, it’s from the same playbook, Community Organizer 101.

  1. I’m certain that “my brother’s keeper” will consist of allocating large sums of money to some organization.
I forgot where now, but I read somewhere that the largest amount of money congress allocated for earthquake relief in Haiti remained inside the beltway to fund various relief agencies.

  2. kBells, some of what they accuse conservatives of you couldn’t even make up. 🙄

But I do kind of miss the good Rev. Wright and that other guy, the Roman Catholic priest who was white but sounded black and went on all those rants? Again, you couldn’t even make up characters like that. 😉

The Obama years. What a long, strange trip it’s been.

Oh wait. I misspoke. They DID actually make that up, didn’t they? 🙂

It’s so sad that (often imaginary) charges of racism have devolved to this point — and, ironically, in the wake of the nation electing its first black president. It seems to have set back race relations.

Racism is real and it exists. But to see it virtually everywhere and in everyone — and to blanket-accuse people like that — is really just loathsome.

  4. For those of you who missed the original remark from the Alabama representative — from kBells’ link:

“Democratic Rep. Alvin Holmes of Montgomery made the controversial statements on the House floor Tuesday.

” ‘Ninety-nine percent of those of you sitting in here now, if your daughter got pregnant by a black man, you going to make her have an abortion, you not going to let her have the baby,’ Holmes said. ”

    I know. Jaw-dropping, isn’t it?

    Who are these people?

And who, in the world, elects them??

  5. Re: Brother’s Keeper

    From the Washington Times,
“George Hussein Obama is the president’s half brother who lives in a tin shake in a Nairobi, Kenya slum, struggling with addiction to booze and drugs, according to numerous news reports. What, Brack Obama, have you done to help a brother who shares your blood?”
“Not a thing. according to brother George who reportedly had to hit up anti-Obama filmmaker Denish D’Souza for $1000 to cover medical expenses for his sick child. Way to be your brother’s keeper, Mr. President.”

  6. Good point, Chas.

There are so many mixed race children in our nation that it boggles my mind how anyone could say such a thing. But then again maybe the man was referring to himself as “the black man” to get their daughters pregnant. In which case, then perhaps some would give more thought to abortion. Not to say they would indeed encourage it, but of course it would give people a bad feeling to know how much hatred their grandkid’s father holds against white folks.

  7. “Holmes also said he’d mortgage his house and bring $100,000 in cash — in a briefcase — tomorrow if anyone could show “a whole bunch of whites” who have adopted black children in Alabama…… House Speaker Mike Hubbard said a little later that they’d identified more than 200 white families who adopted black children.”
I hope the hold him to it and give every dime to the National Right to Life. 🙂
