Prayer Requests 2-22-14

Anyone have a request or praise to share?

Psalm 30

¹I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.

Lord, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

I cried to thee, O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication.

What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?

10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper.

11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

  1. I’m going to a memorial service that starts at 11 (Pacific time) for a former editor from years ago — it is being held at one of our larger local (non-denominational) evangelical churches where she and her family attended (though not always regularly). I’m picking up a co-worker (Christian Science).

So, pray that the service will go well and that it will be a comfort to the woman’s family, especially her daughter Kathy who was so close to her mom and will miss her terribly. Also pray that the gospel will be clearly presented and will touch people who may not know Christ.

  2. Thanks for that link, Donna. I always love reading Ryle. This really spoke to me, and is so true: “No doubt we should all prefer to learn spiritual lessons in the school of ease and not under the rod. But rest assured that God knows better than we do how to teach us.” Amen.

This seems such a small matter for which to request prayer, in comparison to the many more serious needs that have been presented in these prayer threads. I’m experiencing a fair amount of muscle soreness in my neck, upper back, shoulders, and upper arms, quite likely due to overdoing it at the piano preparing for my performance next month. (I have been sick lately, though, which may be contributing a little to my achy feelings. Or maybe not, as it’s not an all-over achiness.)

Anyway, I’m requesting prayers that I would pay attention not just to the sound of the music as I practice, but that I would also be attentive to the physical signals I get while I play, that I would adjust accordingly so that I don’t injure myself. Also, that I would find balance between practicing piano and going about all my non-music-related activities. Thank you.

  3. It seems we have some issues with No. 2 son. He called his dad about 11 last night. They were on the phone a long time. I fell asleep so I don’t know details. He is a grown man and a Marine, but inside he is still a little boy whose mommy walked away. It hurts my heart for him, but I am still very much the outsider. Anyway, I can’t even fix the issues I have with my own child whom I desperately love and wanted.

  4. Isn’t it marvelous to know that God loves our children even more than we do? It is sometimes hard to remember and to trust Him, while at the same time doing whatever we can. Often that is only to pray. However, prayer for the same power that resurrected Jesus Christ to be used for our children’s good, is no small thing.

  5. Heavenly Father,

Thank You for letting us in on knowing Your love partially. I don’t think we have the facilities to fully realize the extent of Your love. Thank You for loving our children in more ways than we can imagine and taking care of them when we are far apart physically, emtionally or spiritually. It is true that You have the whole world in Your hands. Help us each to realize our own part in Your bringing Your kingdom to earth.

Please comfort those who are sad over the death of loved ones. Please be a help in times of trouble for those we know who are battling major health problems. Please comfort those feeling grief over any unwise choices of their family members. I ask that in families where bitterness and strife have been the norm that You would let Your peace rush in and with a big whoosh disperse the negative feelings. You are so able to do these things, Lord, in Jesus’ name.

Please help those who struggle with work overloads, who feel physical pains from overexertion. Bring good assidtance to Karen O’s husband. Bless Forrest and all the grandchildten of the blog members. You know the needs of each. And thank You for looking after our pets as they are sometimes escape artists, acrobats and not acting in their best interest because of curiosity or just lack of experience. Thank You for the sweet kitten You have put in the home and family of AJ. Bless Mouse all the days of her lives.

You are so good and as Peter said on Rants and Raves, because You are good, life is good. Help us to ever be thankful for how You bless and inspire us each day. Amen

  6. Husband appears to be entering another flare up of the arthritis. He could go on methotrexate. Anybody familiar with that? Seems to be a dangerous chemotherapy drug that needs a lot of blood checks.

  7. I had a patient with severe rheumatoid arthritis who started on methotrexate – she did very well with it, but it seems to be a very scary drug. She was in her 60’s and had to quit her job because of her pain levels and difficulty getting around. After starting with methotrexate, she was considering going back to work again. (I guess she wasn’t my patient, but the patient of the doctor I worked for). I do not know what the long term effects might be.

  8. The specialist recommended it for Mike and he is considering it so he can do the best possible job in Toronto. But we are not sure. Lots of potential problems. But it does seem effective.
