😦 Obama says global warming has caused the snow.
🙂 I let Sol clear my driveway. He did a pretty good job yesterday, and it only got down to 36 last night, so no additional freezing.
😦 No more teddy bear commercials. I liked looking at the pretty girls with long hair.
We didn’t feel the earthquake that occurred in Edgefield last night.
The local news says a 4.1 quake occurred at Edgefield ,SC about 10 last night.
Edgefield is abut 20 miles NE of Augusta, Ga.
No damage reported.
🙂 Chas liking the pretty girls with long hair made me smile and triggered a memory from when I was 14 and was a Red Cross candy striper—our uniforms were blue striped. My best friend R and I volunteered at Hillhaven Nursing Home. Mr. and Mrs. Welby had been married 75 years. He lived on 4 North and she lived on 4 West. Every day at 10am Ruby (she insisted on being called Ruby) would put on her rouge and lipstick and go visit Mr. Welby (as she insisted he be called). His eyes would light up because his pretty girls were coming to see him. They would hold hands, I would leave her with him for an hour or so then take her down for lunch.
My Baby Girl has a heart for old people. She loves little old men and often used to beg me to bring one home—sort of like a puppy.
KIm, I never understood, until recently, how two old folks could love each other like that. After so long, each one becomes part of the other. Young people usually think of being united in terms of sex, but it’s more than that. They become really part of each other.
🙂 Saturday!
🙂 With sunshine!
🙂 D2 coming for a visit and promises to make some biscuits from a recipe she discovered using whipping cream. You who are interseted can find it here: Whipping Cream Biscuits. I haven’t tried them, but I hear they are delicious.
😦 Bad week at school. I said something to a student I shouldn’t have about why she stays in my class if she doesn’t care to learn anything and hates the class.
🙂 Making my dad one of his favorite desserts: Danish Pastry Puff. I am so glad he is well enough to eat it! The recipe makes two loaf type pieces, so we will have some to enjoy, too. I did not know this was a favorite until one of my daughters happened to make it when my parents were visiting her. I had made it for years, but never when they were over. It seems my dad’s mother had made it. My mother never had. Baking was not a favorite thing for her, although she did quite a bit until her daughters were old enough to do it.
🙂 Prayers for patience, Peter. Don’t underestimate the power of apology either. Even if what you said is true, you can apologize if you think it is needed. That may speak volumes to her and be cleansing for you.
🙂 My admiration for business owners who do not only look at the bottom line, but what is best for workers.
😦 Argggghh! Goofed up the pastry. I accidently hit the oven timer button instead of just the timer button. The pastry, which should go into a hot oven, sat in the cold oven and then when it was heating up! Bad, bad, bad. Don’t do this at home. Lol. It is still in the oven. Hopefully, it will, at least, be edible.
Not sure how to categorize this one. A FB friend asked about TV game shows, and I mentioned I’d appeared on The Gong Show the day after I graduated from college.
I never saw the show–we didn’t have a television–but I thought maybe I could find it on Youtube.
I was part of the gong at 4:20, standing in the back, right side, near the sousaphones.I can’t find me either, and I know what I looked like!
So curious, though, to see this. I could name everyone marching in and a flood of emotions–mostly how much fun I had in the band with these people–roared back. We’ve been laughing about it, and I’ve felt thankful for the rich full life I’ve had ever since I saw it.
And at this point, unless you’re snowed in and have nothing better to do, here is the half-hour interview done by Barb Marshall, about my book Bridging Two Hearts, among other things!
🙂 A nice Valentine’s Day in spite of everything, like . . .
😦 having two FedEx drivers stuck off the edge of our driveway, one of them for two hours when we wanted to go out to lunch (I took photos today of their trenches and they were definitely not on the driveway–my husband guessed they were looking at their next stop or something rather than watching where they were going)
😦 having a health scare for my sister, but that
🙂 turned out to be OK because it ruled out some potential health issues she was afraid she might have, and gave her a clean bill of health.
🙂 I’ve gotten some more beautiful photos of winter, including, this morning,
🙂 wild turkeys in snow. Which allows me, it looks like,
🙂 to get photos of turkeys and bald eagles in the same day.
🙂 My husband and I are on our way to an eagle watch.
🙂 michelle who seems to be amassing a list of television appearances.
🙂 A much-needed few days off this past week, allowing me to catch up with some things around the house that don’t often get done when I’m running to and from work. And, to be honest, it’s just felt good to be AWAY from work for a little while. Sirens and police perimeters somewhere in town? Who cares. Someone else can make the calls. 🙂
🙂 A good friend is coming over today for our much-belated winter birthday and Christmas get-together. We’ll think of something to do, probably a museum visit or maybe stopping by the Scottish festival (although she’s hard-core Irish).
🙂 Had a nice Valentine’s Dinner put on the 11th grade class last night with 3 friends.
My van is in the shop, so I am walking everywhere, but I had prayed for the loan of a vehicle just to go to market at 6:30am, the hill is so steep and it is hard to get everything done before school.
🙂 last night on the way home my sweet neighbor said, “if you ever need to borrow my car…” an answer to prayer as I did not want to ask.
🙂 A nice eagle watch, complete with a sitting great blue heron and a flying kingfisher and pileated woodpecker.
😦 The eagles were too far away to see them well or get anything but mediocre photographs.
🙂 But we did see at least 50 bald eagles and the weather was extremely cold (20 degrees for an hour of sitting or standing is really cold, even when bundled up) but clear.
🙂 We were by far the best prepared people there, having collapsible seats to sit on and hot drinks that stayed hot. Of course, some people were well prepared in other ways, with more appropriate cameras for birding, but I expected that one.
😦 We’re missing church again. We’re getting sick again. We went for a while but came home. Between weather and illness, we have missed nearly every Sunday so far this year.
😦 More bad weather expected this week, but then . . .
🙂 or 😦 warm-up expected this week too . . . that one’s iffy, because I’m guessing that this area will be a huge, messy, dangerous region while snow melts across roads and refreezes overnight. And there’s no way we’ll get rid of all our own snow that quickly; there’s just too much of it.
🙂 🙂 🙂 Tenants have found a new home! They’ll be moving around mid-March. Yippee! (I don’t know yet if they get to keep all their pets. Still waiting for a reply, but she “sounded” happy in her email.)
🙂 Birds are singing outside my window. It’s 68 degrees and extremely sunny, even for Southern California. 🙂
🙂 Good sermon today out of Revelation (and other passages) about Jesus’ kingship over the nations and universe.
🙂 Fun day yesterday with my former roomie and friend of many years — we toured a local museum (the home of the founder of the port of L.A.) then grabbed dinner and gabbed the rest of the night at my place. But I was tired this morning, planning to try to squeeze in a nap this afternoon.
🙂 I got both movements of the Beethoven sonata I’ll be performing next month memorized!! The first time I played it today, I forgot a couple parts in both movements and had to look at the music to get back on. After I worked those specific areas, then I started from the beginning and got all the way through both movements without looking! A couple small memory slips, but I was able to get back on track without the music in front of me. Now I can concentrate on more expressive elements as I continue to get more comfortable with playing it from memory.
🙂 I am really pumped about this show coming up! It’s the last Saturday in March, so I’ve got plenty of time to polish the music.
🙂 The creative genius God gave to Beethoven! Playing his music is wildly exhilarating! 🙂
I think this also can be very good for Karen’t tenants — a chance for them to move out of feeling stuck and without options as they’ve been so unable to find any other housing after all this time. A door has opened and they’re running through it. Good for them, too.
I did not think it was bragging at all, 6arrows. I thought it was rejoicing at succeeding at something you worked hard on. There is nothing wrong with that.
Donna, that is a good thought about Karen’s tenants. It must have been very frustrating to them, as well. I am praying it will be the first step in a good direction for everyone.
Thanks, Kathaleena. It wasn’t my intention to brag, but rereading my comment later, I thought it did sound like I was praising myself. Along the lines of Proverbs 27:2.
🙂 Oh, yes, I am so happy for my tenants, too. All through this, even when I was at my most frustrated, I still wanted (& prayed for) them to find a nice home, & to be able to keep their beloved pets. M wrote that they found a place that they will be happy to come home to after being out. That makes me happy.
Kim – I knew you’d like to hear this. And I’m glad we didn’t have to use “the nuclear option” that you suggested. 😉
And just for a little balance, I’ll report that when I played it tonight, a while after making my earlier comments, I messed it up in a whole bunch of places. So my “memorization” is inconsistent at best.
Kare, I wondered if that was a photo you took of lynx. I’ve never seen a wild cat (have seen coyotes and foxes, so I’ve seen wild dogs), but would like to. In fact, I just said that to my husband on the way home from church, that it would be neat to see some of America’s cats, or some of Africa’s, in the wild. (He and I both have dreamed all our lives of an African safari–it was one of the “wow, you too?!” moments in our courtship–though we probably will not ever be able to.)
But I guess watching a big cat sauntering across a Southern California patio in search of the family dog for dinner wouldn’t be the same thing as seeing one on a real safari.
