Good Morning!
It’s finally Friday! 🙂
On this day in 1799 the Rosetta Stone, a tablet with hieroglyphic translations into Greek, was found in Egypt.
In 1848 the Women’s Rights Convention took place in Seneca Fall, NY. This is where bloomers were introduced.
In 1909 the first unassisted triple play in major-league baseball was made by Cleveland Indians shortstop Neal Ball in a game against Boston.
In 1946 Marilyn Monroe acted in her first screen test.
In 1960 Juan Marichal (San Francisco Giants) became the first pitcher to get a one-hitter in his major league debut.
In 1974 the House Judiciary Committee recommended that U.S. President Richard Nixon should stand trial in the Senate for any of the five impeachment charges against him.
And in 1984 Geraldine Ferraro was nominated by the Democratic Party to become the first woman from a major political party to run for the office of U.S. Vice-President.

Quote of the Day
“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”

We have lot’s of birthday musicians today. I had a hard time deciding since there are a bunch I liked at one time or another in my youth. And then I remembered I was the blog administrator and I could put up as many as I wanted. 🙂
First up, Brian May, from this band.
Next, we have Bernie Leadon, from this band.
And then Allen Collins, from this band.
Next up, Keith Godchaux, from this band.
And lastly, Danny Chauncey, from this band.

Anyone have a QoD?
Ephesians 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore He says:“When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” 9 (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)
My pray today is for us to understand the idea of “grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift” and what this mean. I wonder sometimes if we as Christian have forgotten about grace as we interacted with people. I also believe there is a fight within side the church today as to what grace means. There is society view of grace and God’s view of grace, the two do not work together.
That it is revealed here that Christ went to the lower parts of the Earth to set the captive free. That He did not live in the lower parts but return to God, the Father in the Heavens with the captive. That we today enjoy this also. where without Christ within one live, you die and go to the lower parts of the earth, but as Christian’s someone who has Christ in His life, we die, we go to heaven to be with Christ. This should bring some joy to our lives.

Good evening you all. My dad always said mind over matter, not sure where he got it. Some of his quotes I later found were from Shakespeare. AJ, I know I’m old, but I have never heard of most of your music. I suppose listening to it might help, but can’t afford that.

Good Morning! Age is mind over matter……I just turned 59 last week and so far…I don’t mind so much…
All our kids are coming in next week….we haven’t all been together in over 10 years…all the grandkids will be here too…I am blessed….
But, the hot water heater went out yesterday…now why does that happen just before we have 10 visitors coming?!! We’ve been up all night researching hot water heaters and still haven’t a clue as to what kind is the best…and we can’t wait a week for an appt…we need it now….and our problems pale in comparison to so many…Lord forgive me for being so whiny….

Fifty nine is not a bad age. You’re still vigorous and you can do all the things you’re used to doing. Albeit a bit slower.
I heard on the radio this morning is that the Eagles were formed when Linda Rhonstadt left the band. They decided to stay together and go their own way.
Has anyone seen a Chinaberry Tree lately? I thought of it this morning when I heard Eddie Arnold, on my CD, singing “I’m sending you a big bouquet of roses.”
We used to have a Chinaberry Tree in our front yard and my little brother would sing, “I’m sending you a big boquet of Chinaberries.” We used to have chinaberry fights.
Fredrick was killed in 1952, by a car.

Jo,
In basic training we had a drill sgt. that used to tell us everything was mind over matter, and that he didn’t mind, so it didn’t matter what we had to say. 🙂

Chas- I have only seen one chinaberry tree, and that was in my neighbor’s backyard when I was growing up. Of course, I think it was something that had to be planted in Arizona, as they are not native to the desert. But it was a great climbing tree, and we too had chinaberry fights. Those things hurt when thrown the right way, but only for a little.

Chas we had a Chinaberry tree in the front of our home in Florida….it was big and beautiful, but, I don’t remember berries on it…the kids might remember though…I should ask them about that…hope they didn’t eat any…I thought I recalled they said the leaves were poisonous…hmmm…my kids are ok so perhaps they didn’t eat any! 🙂 At 59 the mind is running a bit slower…. I have to re- read all my books just to remember what I read!

Good Morning everyone. It is my last day on the Prairie. I am up and packed. Just having coffee.
KBells and Adios and a few others will appreciate that last night as we were all sitting outside, I explained football in the South to the children and told them that when we got into a discussion here Mumsee always said “Go Boise”. I told them that since I had met their dad he always had on a Boise State shirt of some sort. I gave them an Alabama Crimson Tide T-Shirt and asked that at least one of them wear it when a football game was on this Fall.
I said goodbye to the children last night. While I am anxious to get home, I am also sad to leave. I left them spaghetti sauce in the refrigerator so they will have lunch when they come home from swim lessons and driver’s training today.

I knew all the music today except for the last one.
We all loved Geraldine Ferraro, it actually was pretty exciting to see a woman on a national ticket for the first time.
nancyjill, good luck with the hot water heater. I remember researching them once, too, and it’s so confusing now with the “tankless” (which have their own issues), etc. Hope you can get something soon! At least it’s not winter, easier to live with cold showers in the summertime. But still …
I pretty much finished my roller derby story yesterday except for a few last touches I want to make on it today. But that means now I have to find something to work on today.

Btw, I passed my angiogram with flying colors. My cardiologist said afterward, “I wish my heart were as clear and health as yours. Now it figure out your chest pain . . .” Personally I think it is just the beginning of a spasm. Very hard to get to show up. It never shows up on my EKGs or chest x-rays. It only showed up on my last angio because I was having a heart attack. And by the time it shows up in the blood there is damage to the heart muscle so I nitro before it gets that far. Bad news is I can’t go in the water because they punched a hole in my artery 😦 So until that heels no paddling out.

Jo, I’ll tell you a secret – I haven’t heard most of The Real’s music. Between being trained in classical music and a homeschooling program that was certain that rock music was of-the-devil, I ended up knowing precious little about popular music after about 1970 (my father was a baby-boomer and would sing bits of the songs of his era). Would you believe it? I hadn’t heard a Michael Jackson song before his death. Youtube was a valuable tool in remedying all that but I have decided that I wasn’t missing much 😉 😛

Who needs a hot water heater? I can’t take anything but cold showers… and I flinch every time I turn on the water. No matter how hot and sticky I am, even when the sweat is running in little streams down my face, standing under cold water still makes me feel panic. The other team members think I’m a little strange because I don’t keep my drinking water in the fridge, but I actually choke when I try to drink ice cold water. Weird I know, but I remember reading that the shock of cold water can actually cause the heart rate to change (even stop, if it is sudden enough), so there is some physical reason behind it.

Donna, my nephew’s wife does roller derby. I haven’t gotten a chance to watch. I used to watch it on tv many, many years ago.
I lost a lot of respect for Geraldine F. when I was listening to her on public radio one day driving in to pick up my children from their private Christian school. She was giving a speech about how they had to stop all those people in those types of schools from propagandizing the children. I cannot remember all the details, but that was enough for me.

Propaganda, ah yes.
I still remember doing a story some years ago about a couple who adopted a baby girl from Guatemala — they were Christians and several of the online comments from readers made a point of suggesting that they certainly should not “impose” their religion on their child.
Huh?
We live in interesting times.

On Christianity and the ethical treatment of animals:
http://www.breakpoint.org/bpcommentaries/entry/13/22861
“Earlier generations of Christians understood well that our stewardship of creation extends to living creatures. St. Francis of Assisi was famous for his passionate concern for animals. And William Wilberforce, the great abolitionist, took a public stand against cruelty to animals and helped found the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. And in his book ‘The Problem of Pain,’ C. S. Lewis calls the suffering of animals ‘appalling.’ ‘Animal pain,’ he wrote, is ‘begun by Satan’s malice and perpetrated by man’s desertion of his post.’ …
“To quote Dutch theologian Abraham Kuyper, as Chuck Colson so often did, ‘There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, “Mine!”
And “His” extends to all of creation, including the animals He made. And wherever and whenever we do good out of love for God, we are witnesses of Christ.”

Growing up in Phoenix, our next-door neighbors had a chinaberry tree. It was noteworthy for two reasons: one, the really stinky berries that got all over our yard. (You had to wash your hands if you touched them, because the stink lingered.) Two, each year startlings nested in a hole in the tree trunk, and their fledglings always left the nest before they could fly, and ran all over our backyard for a day or two. At the time, I thought starlings just left the nest early; now I think it was probably because a nest hole in Phoenix was dangerously hot by the time fledglings were full-size, and leaving early may have been safer than staying. (Both options were probably dangerous.)

I will drink ice water but prefer water without ice. My husband drinks his canned colas straight from the box, unrefrigerated. Sometimes when I have very cold things it feels like my tongue freezes up and is numb. I do not like that sensation.

Adios. When I was about 35, I started having pains in my chest. I went to a doctor who didn’t tell me what it was, but gave me librium to take. The librium worked, but I got lackadasical about everything. So I took myself off it. Another doctor told me that I have a hiatial hernia. We decided to ignore it. I don’t have much problem with it now.
Someday, I may fall over dead with a heart attack, thinking it’s my hiatial hernia.

off to school to get my room ready. I was home last fall and the other teachers changed some things that weren’t my style. Changing 11 bulletin boards takes a while. I love my classroom, it is 75 feet long, so one end is desks and work, while the other end is centers. Easy for me to lose things. I will get the bulletin boards covered, but what to put on them??? Extra work as my aide is gone out to the village to mourn for her mom who died last week. Wendy is a joy to work with.

Ephesians 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
I pray that we never lose our respect for those who are called to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. That we come to a full understanding that they are there to equip is for the Work of Ministry and to help us to avoid false teaching that leads people away from God. That speaking the truth in love is the hardest thing for us to do, but we must speak the truth and not be silence by society. That we are to work together and grow together as one body.
