Good Morning!

Happy Saturday!

What’s happening this weekend at your house?

Quote of the Day

“How  well I have learned that there is no fence to sit on between heaven and hell.  There is a deep, wide gulf, a chasm, and in that chasm is no place for any  man.”

  1. I was going to marry Johnny Cash when I grew up. Either him or Johnny Horton. When I learned to read I realized Johnny Horton died long before I was born so it was back to Cash.

He was a very flawed man, but there was a lot of good there too.

  2. Since I am here so bright and early I thought I would bring you up to date on the Baby Girl.
She saw the endocrinologist yesterday and her thyroid levels were very low. They have raised her dosage from 50 to 75 micrograms. All was going well until the doctor noticed her liver levels were twice what would be normal. They drew blood again and are re-testing. We will know Monday.

I talked to the school yesterday as well. (The cynic in me finds this curious that it only happened AFTER her melt down) They had a meeting to discuss scores and have identified her as needing intervention in Math. She will now have a special education plan and a math tutor. I also talked to her therapist last night and they had a very good meeting on Thursday. (Her therapist goes to church with us so I am not as worried as I may have been about some things that may be suggested). The therapist is sharing with me the things she thinks it is important for me to know while respecting BG’s privacy.

For a week that started out in the basement, if I am not quite to the attic yet, I am at least on the second or third floor….but wait! Haven’t we always kept our crazy relatives in the attic????

  4. Good morning! It is a good day to rejoice for the Lord made it and gave it to us.

Kim, I don’t know if you saw it, but yesterday I posted a thank you for the info on decorating the mailbox. I am glad to hear things are looking up for you and BG.

Blessings for a beautiful snow for Nancyjill and all out that way. It has been so warm here in the south that some flowers are blooming as the leaves fall from the trees. Our seasons have gone ecletic in decor.

  5. I’m editing this morning, hoping to get further into the manuscript by 8, so I can visit with my adorable grandchildren at the Kid’s Korner my husband is running at church.

(Kid’s Korner is a wonderful little ministry they’ve put together–we give out about 70 bags of groceries every other week. My husband runs a modified Sunday school program for the children of the folks waiting for the bags. Highly successful outreach–at least from the enthusiasm of those who come. There wre 30 children there last time, though a half-dozen of them were congregations kids come to help their mothers.

It’s a wonderful ministry opportunity for mothers of pre-schoolers, who can bring their kids to participate as well, including my grandchildren. Lots of fun and my husband is extremely enthusiastic about it).

I really need to Christmas shop. Sigh.

And maybe we’ll go to the movies. Last weekend before the college kids return and the real partying begins.

Of course, I’ve been out every night except Tuesday for the last week, so maybe I’ll just collapse at home!

Thanks for keeping us up to date on BG. It’s a mixed blessing about the physical results–now at least there are some explanations, challenging though they may be. I’ll keep praying.

  6. Good morning. This weekend, Mrs L is back, and so is D2. Ds 2&3 are going to the annual homeschool ball in St. Louis with a cousin tonight. I would go, but it is four hours of driving and six hours of boredom. Plus, there are too many people attending for the room they use. Mrs L might go along, since my SIL will be there. So I may have the house to myself from about 2PM until they return in the wee hours of the morning. That means I get to watch the Army-Navy game without interruption.

  7. Glad to get the update about BG. Hope some answers (and no serious complications, just easy ‘fixes’) can be gleaned from the ongoing physical tests and that the new studies plan at school will be a help.

Hmm. I think our church is having its cookie exchange today, too. Is this on a big universal calendar somewhere as “Cookie Exchange Day,” or what? I’m not going to that. But I will be shopping today.

Jealous of your snow, nancyjill. Out here lately we’re getting lots of coastal fog, so I guess that will have to suffice. Good weather for Rudolph.

  9. Who’s getting a flu shot? I’ve only had one once — years ago — and I hardly ever get the flu. But I guess now they’re free at the local drug stores and reading about the early onset this year has me thinking maybe I should get one this year.

  10. My husband just brought me hot chocolate. Is that comparable to being taken out for lunch? 🙂 No, it’s not, but I do feel rather spoiled by my own new husband. I have a hunch, though, that marrying as late as we did, we’ll always be “newlyweds” and won’t get to the point of taking marriage for granted. That is the goal, or one of them, for me. (Actually, taking someone for granted, in terms of knowing they’ll be there, is a good comfort level. But not getting past the sense that the person’s presence is special.)

  11. Donna, we use black elderberry liquid as a flu preventative (Sambucol). It also can be used in the event one does get the flu, although none of us have had it since using elderberry. Elderberry protects against, I believe, eight different strains of flu. A flu shot won’t protect against that much, and can have a whole host of side effects besides. My husband got a flu shot one year and was sick the whole winter after it. He got it a little later in the season and thinks it may have gone bad on the shelf, but he will not ever get one again.

I also read a while back that there were studies done that showed that getting a flu shot 5 years in a row greatly increases a person’s chance of getting dementia later in life, due to the metals or other harmful components present in the vac, most likely. That was enough to convince me to look for alternatives to the flu shot.

Here’s more information on Sambucol and other forms of elderberry you can order:

  12. Already had my flu shot, I keep hearing there’s a bad strain out there this year, but no specifics.

Baby Girl is on my list of “on going” prayers, Kim, thanks for keeping all of her “aunts & uncles” on WV updated.

I’m going to get C-Pap machine Thursday. I don’t know if it will help me or annoy me, but I’m looking forward to sleeping for more than 1 1/2 – 2 hours at a time. It’s been more than 20 years since I have, but it was never diagnosed as a form of sleep apnea until now. I never feel as if I stop breathing, I just keep waking up and going back to sleep fairly quickly, but I also don’t feel rested in the morning, so maybe this will help.

  13. I’ve never gotten a flu shot. And I have only had the flu once. And I have worked in an environment of high risk for years: college dormitories and high school classrooms. I guess I built up a natural immunity and eat healthy enough.

Or the grace of God is a lot more than I deserve.

  14. The last time I had the flu was something like 25 years ago, to the best of my knowledge (and it was quite a case, really knocked me out flat for a week — and I was hoarse for something like a month afterward). I’ve occasionally had a bad cold or two & bronchitis since then, but I’m rarely sick.

So as I normally do, I’ll likely skip the shot again this year. But I will remember the elderberry. 🙂 The one time I did get a flu shot it hurt like heck, though I don’t recall any other after-effects, I wasn’t ill afterward — my arm was just really sore for some time.

And it is always a roll of the dice since there is such a variety of strains that come along each season and it’s hard to anticipate which one will be coming our way when they prepare those shots in advance. Sometimes the shots miss the mark and people get sick anyway, though it’s not supposed to be as severe if you’ve been inoculated.

During lunch, she said, “This is such a treat”.
    We were at McDonalds.

  16. I haven’t had a flu shot in more than 20 years, and I’ve had the flu twice in that time. I’ve had years I was the only one in the office not to get it. So I figured 10 years of getting the flu shot to avoid that once-per-decade illness was not worth it!

  17. Go Navy!

Great article Michelle. I have seen that problem way too often. It is almost as if some believe Christ forgives our past sins when we come to Christ, but then it’s a one-and-done tight rope. That is no the gospel!

  20. 1. The problem facing Elisha’s servant is real, just as our problems are real.

“15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
His servant woke up and he was facing life issues. Just as we do when we wake up, we face real life issues.
The question is do we let the real life issues over whelm us or not?

  21. I refuse to get a flu shot. I rarely get the flu, so — like Cheryl — I figure that once a decade or so doesn’t rate all the negative side-effects of the shot, and the potential issues it has.

And, there are a lot of side-effects and issues. The list is growing.

Finally, there’s the fact that my parents always get it, and then they always get the flu. Funny that.

  22. 2. We need to let God open our eyes and see the real life issues as God desire us to see them.

16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18 So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, and said, “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
Elisha asked that God would let his servant see the real life issue as God wants us to see it, that we have the victory over the real life issues.

  23. 3. We need to show compassion and understanding after God shows us the victory.
18 So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, and said, “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19 Now Elisha said to them, “This is not the way, nor is this the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek.” But he led them to Samaria.
20 So it was, when they had come to Samaria, that Elisha said, “LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see.” And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and there they were, inside Samaria!
21 Now when the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, “My father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?”
22 But he answered, “You shall not kill them. Would you kill those whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master.” 23 Then he prepared a great feast for them; and after they ate and drank, he sent them away and they went to their master. So the bands of Syrian raiders came no more into the land of Israel.
Elisha show kindness, compassion and understanding, the results the enemy left and never came back.

  24. Conclusion
We see that after Elisha prayed for his servant, his eyes were open and he saw that God is going to protect His people and no real life problem is bigger than God’s Love and God’s protection. The result of God opening our eyes is that we should show compassion to people that are of our real life issues.

  25. What we did was go to the Mobile Museum of Art. They were having a display of the 50th anniversary of art glass. There was a tapestry exhibit–I can’t imagine all the beadwork. In addition there was some pottery by Picasso and a Norman Rockwell painting displayed next to it’s Saturday Evening Post cover.

From there we went to see Flight. It wasn’t about what I thought it was about. It was about an alcoholic and a drug addict hitting bottom. I love Denzel Washington and he was great in the movie, but the subject matter made me a little ill.

We didn’t end up at my favorite restaurant, we ended up in the kitchen with tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches…but it was all good.

  26. Mmmm, tomato soup and grilled cheese. That takes me back to one of my mom’s favorite things to make. 🙂 Sounds like a fun day, Kim.

I like Denzel Washington, too, but “Flight” sounds a little on the downer side. Go see “Skyfall,” that’s probably a better movie if you’re looking for a 2-hour escape. 🙂
