Update on my daughter, Becca: First of all, I appreciate all the prayers for her. I had a meeting with her teacher yesterday. She said she didn’t recognize the child I was describing. Said she participates fully in class, almost always has a smile on her face, is one of the best readers in the class, and skips from activity to activity! She said she sees her on the playground playing happily with other girls and has seen no indications of an unhappy kid during the school day! She showed me her progress report (they are on a 9 week schedule) and she earned 100’s in science, social studies, art and P.E. and has a 97 in math and a 95 in reading. So, I have no idea why she gave me such a sob story about school. I gently confronted Becca on the discrepancies b/t her version of things and the teacher’s and she had no good explanation for me. She did admit that it’s really only one girl who is being mean to her (I discussed said child with teacher and teacher said this girl has had conflicts with many of the students this year, telling many of them that she “doesn’t want to be their friend,” etc. ). The only thing I can think of is that Becca enjoys the extra attention and sympathy she gets from me when she claims to be having lots of problems. I am going to give her more of my undivided attention when she is engaging in positive pursuits and see if that helps my little drama queen to refrain from embellishing her stories. And, from now on, I will take what she says with a grain of salt.
Sorry for sounding the alarm when none was needed, but I was genuinely concerned about her. Thanks again for supporting us both in prayer. If you could, would you please pray that Becca would make a “best” friend? She desperately wants one and hasn’t met anyone she truly “clicks” with yet. I realize she’s young, but the desire is strong.
I am so glad that Becca’s difficulty at school seems to be more of an internal issue of attention seeking than the harder to deal with situation of meaness in her school environment. PTL! It is wonderful to hear about her progress in school. That really helps a parent’s feelings to get a good report from a teacher. I do pray she will have a special “best friend” relationship with a young lady who has interests similar to hers and that has a good family so she can over time feel close to the whole family.
Kay, I posted a prayer late yesterday for the officers. I hope that Det. Perez will survive. I will pray for them again today.
Please pray for my brother, Vernon, to receive interviews and offers for employment. He has been out of work since January and his unemployment will soon run out. He is a hard worker and has an MBA. He is in the ranks of the many in our nation who were good employees but when the economy kept on its nose dive course the work evaporated.
This seems so minor compared to the many serious issues facing those who have been mentioned in these prayer threads, I almost hesitate to post it, yet knowing that we can bring petitions of any size or sort before our Lord, I’ll go ahead anyway.
I don’t know how to put it other than for some unknown reason I have been increasingly agitated and irritated about things lately. Impatient, short-tempered, that sort of thing. There’s nothing major as a trigger for any of this, I’m just having a hard time being cheerful lately. Your prayers would mean so much to me at this time. Thank you.
Let’s see, 6 Arrows, you have 6 children of various ages, a husband, a house [but no maids], you’ve recently expressed concern about strangers in your neighborhood, the country’s in the midst of contentious election campaign, the NFL replacement referees are doing a bad job [ 🙂 ] and you don’t know why you feel agitated and irritated about things lately?
I don’t know how any of us is remaining calm these days, except for the sure knowledge that our Lord sustains us through it all.
Thank you, Kay…that gave me a good chuckle! Just what I needed. 🙂
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine…” Proverbs 17:22.
And I don’t know why those smilies act the way they do, either, but it was another thing that brought a smile to my face, that smiley jumping out of its brackets!
Another fire burning up the canyon right below our house. I have all of the cars turned around and children ready to drive each. They have planes and helicopters on the fire and farmers working diligently. Pray for us. Thanks.
Thanks, looks like they got it under control. It started at the Flying B, that is the place the CA governor used to come up to do his “hunting”. We get their escaped pheasants.
Praying that the fire doesn’t start up again, Mumsee.
Further report on the 2 Deputies that were shot yesterday: Det Perez is still in critical condition, having been shot in the torso. He squeezed someone’s hand today [I think it was his Father-in-Law]. He is married with two children in college. His wife, of course, is staying by his side, so she cannot work. A local credit union has set up a fund for the family, as it will be a long, hard recovery. When the dept. spokeswoman was asked if there was also a fund for Sgt. Johnson, she reported that he asked that people would donate to Det. Perez instead of him. He said he didn’t need financial help, as his children are grown so his financial condition is different than Det. Perez’. Sgt Johnson is listed in serious condition, but is able to talk with his family.
A bit of history on Det Perez: About 10 years ago there was a student shooting spree at Santana HS in east county. Det Perez was first on the scene and found the shooter [then age 15 or so] hiding in the bathroom and took him into custody. Since that time, Det Perez transferred into the child abuse division, which is why he was there yesterday.
I have been having computer issues today. I do not know why my gravatar changed to Anonymous. Weird, but I guess that goes along with the other glitches today!
I lifted up the law enforcement people during our prayer time at church.
6 Arrows, prayers for cheerfulness. That means a lot to all the people in the home, as in “If mama ain’t happy, no one’s happy!”
Prayers for Mumsee and family that the Lord would continue in his blessings to keep fires and any other natural disasters away from their property. May all the family be healthy during this season when it seems a lot of people are catching colds. Prayer for the vehicles they have to rely upon to buy groceries, go to activities and church.
My son still has not located his cell phone and with my e-mail/computer being under the weather it has made communication quite a challenge. He says he has exhausted all his ideas of where the phone might be. He also has a cold so he asked for my prayers. If you have a moment, please pray for God’s provision for him in these needs. Thank you.
I don’t pray. I wish you well. After worrying about earthquake tsunami, we live on a very forested island in the midst of trees. I volunteer for the Red Cross. I prepare in tangible ways and try to scare people into sensible precautions. I am not much help to you in California.
I apologize. I am not running over to Idaho to help fight the fire. You may pray for me. I am driving to Oak Harbor to do what little I can to help legalize queer marriage. Homosexuals should have the chances to fail at marriage as straight people. The odds run at about 50% for straight people. I would guess (until we get a chance to collect some statistics) that the odds will run about 55% for homosexual men and about 45% for lesbians. I am not sure where transgenders fall; they are sort of wild cards in this experiment.
Anyway, I am getting older and my mind and alertness are diminishing. Last night, I put the chickens to bed and forgot to close the door. I am OK at driving during the day and when I am going some place I know pretty well. At night, especially when driving in an unfamiliar place, I am pushing my luck. So pray for me. When I’m gone, you will be sad for three days, and then you will forget me. On the other hand, people still remember Jesus after a couple thousand years. So pray for Jesus. Or to Jesus.

Rats! the smiley was supposed to be inside the brackets and refer to the NFL refs, not the campaign.
I’ve never seen smileys act like the ones here anywhere else, anybody understand why they move to the left?
