Prayer Requests 9-1-22

It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her former students, and the people of PNG.

Psalm 44

1 We have heard it with our ears, O God;
    our ancestors have told us
   what you did in their days,
    in days long ago.
2 With your hand you drove out the nations
    and planted our ancestors;
   you crushed the peoples
    and made our ancestors flourish.
3 It was not by their sword that they won the land,
    nor did their arm bring them victory;
   it was your right hand, your arm,
    and the light of your face, for you loved them.

4 You are my King and my God,
    who decrees victories for Jacob.
5 Through you we push back our enemies;
    through your name we trample our foes.
6 I put no trust in my bow,
    my sword does not bring me victory;
7 but you give us victory over our enemies,
    you put our adversaries to shame.
8 In God we make our boast all day long,
    and we will praise your name forever.

9 But now you have rejected and humbled us;
    you no longer go out with our armies.
10 You made us retreat before the enemy,
    and our adversaries have plundered us.
11 You gave us up to be devoured like sheep
    and have scattered us among the nations.
12 You sold your people for a pittance,
    gaining nothing from their sale.

13 You have made us a reproach to our neighbors,
    the scorn and derision of those around us.
14 You have made us a byword among the nations;
    the peoples shake their heads at us.
15 I live in disgrace all day long,
    and my face is covered with shame
16 at the taunts of those who reproach and revile me,
    because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.

17 All this came upon us,
    though we had not forgotten you;
    we had not been false to your covenant.
18 Our hearts had not turned back;
    our feet had not strayed from your path.
19 But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals;
    you covered us over with deep darkness.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God
    or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
21 would not God have discovered it,
    since he knows the secrets of the heart?
22 Yet for your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

23 Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep?
    Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever.
24 Why do you hide your face
    and forget our misery and oppression?

25 We are brought down to the dust;
    our bodies cling to the ground.
26 Rise up and help us;
    rescue us because of your unfailing love.

    I have two friends who happen to have their sisters in hospitals, one here, and one afar, and the sisters are probably near to death. In both situations, salvation is questionable and unlikely, so it’s very difficult for my friends. I am trying to be a support as a listening ear and prayer partner. Please pray my friends can have the right words for death bed salvations.

  3. I went to the chiropractor for the second time yesterday since I’ve been home. I feel like he gave me my right leg back. It was amazing. Praises.
    Now to go out and walk.

  7. And prayers for my neighbor who has been so hopeful she could still get the knee replacement surgeries she’d needed for so long. She’d just finally contacted a doctor about it when the pandemic struck and then she had a stroke.

    She was to see a neurologist yesterday to see if she could get clearance for the surgeries — her being able to walk depends on that now and the knees are bone-on-bone, very painful — and I haven’t heard from her yet so am concerned the answer was still “no.” If so, I’m hoping it was more of a “not now” rather than a “no-never.”

    She had a lot hopes pinned on this. I’m sure I’ll talk with her sometime today, so pray for me, too, on how to encourage in the face of possible bad news. She’s had a very tough couple of years.

  8. Hazel’s family is coming home. They’ve decided this is a health emergency for their daughter. They are now desperately trying to figure out how to get them all home, six people, next week for less than $8K.

    Someone has suggested the US Embassy for help since this is a medical emergency. Anyone else know?

  10. Psalm 44 above, a psalm of lamentation. A reminder, too, that God’s people go through times of despair and struggle, it is the way of life on this earth; and we are brought through the fire and floods humbled yet also strengthened.

  11. Good news, the neurologist did approve my neighbor’s knee replacement surgeries. She’s scared, of course, and there is a lot to take care of, including getting dates set from the knee surgeon followed by all the pre-op steps to get through. But she’s on her way to walking again, I pray.

  12. Although the actual fifth anniversary of Hubby’s death will be October 2, it was in late August that he ended up in the hospital, and that whole situation played out over September. So each year, as we get to late August, my mind turns to the events of that period of time in 2017.

    As I told Nightingale the other day, each year it is a little easier, but this year being the fifth anniversary hurts more than it has in a while. She thought that that was understandable and normal.

  13. Kizzie those mile markers are hard…I am sorry. You two are a testimony in how to love. Marriage and relationships can be hard but with our Lord we make it through better not bitter. Praying the Lord will comfort you in sweet ways in the coming days ❤️

    I am home now and all went well. I truly felt the prayers of my friends dear fellow wanderers…such a peace was felt.
    Everything appeared clear with no need for biopsy. That was the good news
    They said there is a reason for swelling and very painful lymph nodes which my doctor will have to track down now. Not certain what she will do next but it was good to get this out of the way. The most painful part was the ultra sound…oh that hurt! But thank you again my precious friends for covering me in prayer. Such an incredible blessing to have you all in my life!

  14. Thanks for your prayer for the B household. Mrs B did end up getting Covid too, though it seems extra-mild – only one day of fever and not very high. That was Sunday, about the time KJ and I had been fever-free for a couple of days and able to emerge from isolation. So Mrs B went into isolation and KJ and I are doing minimal household duties and delivering her meals.

    Flyboy’s fiancee Hannah volunteered to do a grocery/pharmacy run for us. Did I mention how much we like her? 🙂

    I worked for the first time today, just half a day, easy to do working from home. I run out of gas early, but otherwise feel ok.

    I was so sorry to hear AJ’s news, and found so much to pray for here the last few days.

  15. NancyJill – What a relief! I’ve been so worried about you. Now we will pray that whatever really is causing the problem will be easy to cure. Or that God will heal you!

    Kevin – Glad to hear that you have come through that okay, and that Mrs. B’s case doesn’t seem too bad.

    Boy is doing better, although he is milking it for all it’s worth. 😀

    Edsel was told the tumors in his lungs are not cancer. They are still working on finding the cause and whatever needs to be done. He and his sister are asking for prayers for wisdom about remaining on the family farm or moving into town. They are both wonderful Christians.

  18. Good news here today, praises.

    My knee surgery followup also went well (posted on the daily thread), he’s pleased with the range of motion and other improvements so soon after surgery. But he also gave me a later-than-expected return to work date — Oct. 12.

    Am I milking it? Hmm. Maybe. But it was his call!

    As for Boy, Nightingale reminded him that even though he is feeling better, he can’t/doesn’t have to go back to school anyway until next Tuesday. 😀

    Nightingale is planning on a day-trip for a hike on Bear Mountain which has part of the oldest section of the Appalachian Trail. So she still gets to hike part of the Appalachian Trail, but only a six-hour hike, not the two-day hike she’d had planned. And she can be home by early evening.

    Please pray for her safety in her travels and her hiking. Thank you.
