Green is the day here. Apple blossoms are lovely, as are the lilacs. Lawn is like a jungle. Thankfully, the front lawn was cut last night. Rained again in the night and may again today. Sun is shining as I type, however. The fluff is still flying, and the mosquitoes are like something out of a science fiction novel–numerous and vicious. That was one advantage of the dry weather.
That’s one of our yard residents. I’ve seen 3 of these chipmunks, several rabbits and squirrels, along with a variety of birds, mostly robins, finches and sparrows.
The weather is cooler today and pop up thunderstorms are in the forecast.
I hope everyone has a good day. I know Jo is busy, busy now.🙏
Yesterday I had to use the fly swatter and it brought back the memory of when Wesley saw me use one for the first time. He laughed and laughed like it was the funniest thing he had seen in his young life. I still get tickled thinking back on that.

We are greening up around here and expect a thunderstorm later this afternoon. Some of the perennials are beginning to bloom….they are still confused over just what season it is around here!
Sixteen and I just came down from patching the roof. We hope we patched it in the right places! Quite the storm yesterday but it pulled back and gave us a window to do that before it strikes again later today.
It appears twenty three and wife arrived at some point over night. I did not hear them so they must have sneaked in the back way. We have not actually seen them yet.

I am looking at newly aquired stains on my white capris. If they were black capris I would not see the stains. The price of trying to look cool is you end up looking even far less than cool!
Kathaleena, I enjoyed reading that you had witnessed your first ultimate frisbee game. I was not familiar with it until my son, Flyboy, attended a small charter high school where ultimate was the only team sport. He played all three years, and we came to enjoy watching his team play.
He had terrific coaches who mentored him in leadership and sportsmanship. He was a co-captain on the “A” team in his senior year. For a year or two after that he helped out as coach for the “B” team, and we discovered he has a gift for teaching/coaching. Now he uses that as a flight instructor. (Can you tell I’m proud of my boy?)
“The spirit of the game” is an important concept, which allows it to work well as a self-refereed game. At tournaments we witnessed a couple aggressive teams that were more interested in winning than in preserving the spirit of the game. They received warnings from the tournament organizers, and in one case were banned from participating the next year.
Speaking of Flyboy, I’m pleased to announce his engagement last week to his girlfriend. (I guess I have to think up a nickname for her now. Hmm…) They had been friends in youth group in high school, but not a couple, and not in touch much in college. He asked her on a date 18 months ago and they hit it off. We are delighted with his choice. Our daughter KJ is happy to finally have the sister she always wanted.
We all celebrated his 25th birthday together over the weekend.
I saw a piece on the news this morning about Queen Elizabeth’s seventy years of service and it was touching. Thanks for the article about her faith, Kizzie. Of course that part was not mentioned in the news. Now I have a more complete picture.
DJ – I was not happy with Olivia Colman’s portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in The Crown. (For those who may not know, every two seasons they switch the actress playing the queen, as the show progresses through the years of her life.) She always looked so dour, rarely smiling. In an article I happened to see, they had photos of scenes from the show next to actual photos from those events. There was one in particular in which Olivia Colman had not cracked a smile, but the photo of the real queen at that particular event showed her smiling.
Kizzie, you’re a much more astute observer than I am 🙂
I also tended to watch The Crown sporadically over the course of a couple different years, so I wasn’t always *that* aware of the actor changes (though I knew the lead character was played by a number of different actresses through the series).
Just based on how the series portrayed it, her conversion to Christianity, following some personal meetings with Billy Graham, was certainly genuine but appeared fairly low-key, deep but quiet as was probably befitting her position in life.
So current news accounts today probably would not make much of it (in a long life so full of notable events and history). I wouldn’t consider the lack of a mention of her conversion a purposeful slight so much as a case of “not everything can fit” in these stories.
But that part of her life does add some welcome nuance to her full story for many of us.
Finished my pre-written election story and filled out my ballot to drop off (all I have time for today).
Now I’ve been assigned to write an advance on the LA Pride month but I’m not clear when that’s supposed to run, doesn’t look like it’s for tomorrow which is filled with election-related copy for the most part. And I need to put in another local high school graduation photo assignment for later this week, if I can get the school to call me back with details.
I think the Queen always had a strong faith. During her coronation she did not allow the cameras on her when she was annointed with oil. Billy Graham may have enhanced her faith but I think she was a Christian to begin with.
There goes a plane. Someone else is leaving and you know there are sad children as friends leave.
Gave my gifts to the employees yesterday. It went well. I did the kinder thing of pulling out names so they could choose. Then I had extra things that they could choose so we kept on. They gave me a gift of the photos of us all together. It was framed in a wooden frame with glass. Not sure that I can fit that in.
Then they had us get in a circle holding hands and they prayed for me. They prayed in tok pisin so I didn’t understand, but it was still special..
Later the secretary said that her children want to have me over for a mumu, was I free. I didn’t know what was on my calendar. But I am an introvert so this is hard.
The family certainly was steeped in the Christian church, it was a major part of the royal tradition.
But from the portrayal in The Crown (and it was only a dramatization, so take it for what it’s worth) something deeper appeared to occur w/Elizabeth during that time which either could have been a true faith developing — or a much deeper understanding of the faith she and the family had, at least, professed.
The Royals still give outward homage to The Church but I’d say it’s unclear who or who doesn’t possess true faith in those cases (as is always the case — church membership is not necessarily a sign of being a believer). Only God knows, ultimately.
it’s also possible that the Queen — within that rather restrictive Royal environment — wasn’t easy expressing her faith outwardly but found, in Graham, someone who brought that permission and ability out in her.
I have been falling asleep to documentaries about her leading up to the Platinum Jubilee. Her faith was discussed in some depth and one of the bishops was interviewed. It was discussed that during her coronation she did not want cameras in the church.
Kizzie, I do enjoy thunderstorms except for the occasional one that is hitting directly aronnd me. I like how they clear the air on a hot summer day. As a child I always loved going out to the street after one passed and watching the steam rise from the pavement. I was also sometimes noticing the poor earthworms that met their demise from the quick pour down from the boomers.
Friends came over and taught me how to back up my computer. Yeah!
Also they agreed about the picture and frame and had a use for the frame, I will take the picture.
We drove to Lewiston to learn there was no speech today, They are not terribly good with communication, but picked up some chick food. Home for chores, then off to Kamiah for buying a fishing license and then to karate. Husband, is off to the airport to pick up his sister who is going for a few days to offer support. More mileage..
Lots of rain on the drives. And lots of mud on the gravel road to Kamiah, from mudslides coming off the hill. And several places of undermined pavement as was mentioned the other day. We get that a lot, where the pavement collapses because the mud is washed out from under.
It sounds like you have good reason to be proud of your son, Kevin. I am happy that you like the woman who will be your DIL. Such a blessing!
We watched our grandson also play soccer while we were there. We only watched one of each. He played six Ultimate Frisbee games and one soccer game. He has refereed soccer games but will have his first job this year at a local outdoor rec center. He is a very nice kid.
Janice, I haven’t taken any pictures of those trees. Maybe tomorrow? I will try to remember.
Nationwide doesn’t seem to be on our side. They offered $700+ to fix the roof that has hail damage. One roofer said the damage is all over, but Nationwide’s contracted adjuster only focused on part of the roof. I should have stayed outside and told him where to look.
