  1. Good morning! The header is self explanatory . . . trees along the trail in winter.

    The ladies Bible study day has rolled around after it seems only a weekend has past. The days are definitely passing more quickly now.

    I have to catch up in my study guide and practice my memory verse so I will wish you all a great day.

    Happy Birthday II, Jo! May it be doubly special with triple layers and quadruple scoops!

  2. Good Morning Everyone.
    I see Janice, but where is Chas?
    Today is busy. February seems to be zipping away just like January. I leave next week for Orlando. I have only been there twice. Once to go to Disney World and one with Idaho Mike.
    Four of us from the office will be going together in my car. I am letting Mark drive. I have been teasing him about driving Miss Ann and Miss Kim. My “right hand” guy will be traveling with us as well. He had to look at the back of my car to make sure there would be enough room for his suitcase. I am not sure what he could bring that would take up that much space!
    I’m the prissiest one of us going and I won’t take up much room. People travel with their own shampoos, conditioners, body wash, etc! I figure the change of using what the hotel provides will be a nice change for my hair and skin. I mean, it’s not like we are staying at a No Tell Hotel or anything.

  4. Good morning all! Happy Birthday Jo! And have a lovely trip to Orlando, Kim.

    It’s sunny and crispy cold outside. Manifold species of birds have been crowding the feeder pole this morning: cardinals, finches (both yellow and purple headed), chickadees, morning doves, a tufted titmouse, and even a woodpecker who shows himself once or twice a week. Then of course, there’s the chubby mockingbird who flies in with aplomb and promptly scatters everyone. She has to be the fattest mockingbird I’ve ever seen. I always think she looks 9 months pregnant. Maybe she’s a piglet in disguise—in which case, a pig has officially flown, so it’s sure to be a time of miracles all around. Enjoy this amazing day that the Lord has made! :–D

  5. We will be above 30 degrees for the first time since Dec. 24th or so. I hope it stays cold enough to have snow later, rather than rain or a freezing drizzle.

    Kim, I learned to take my own shampoo and conditioner when we went on longer bus trips with a tour. My hair got so dried out and it looked horrible. Truthfully, though, the water and the atmosphere are different wherever we go and that means the shampoo and conditioner will act differently, too. My daughter has to adjust when she comes from TN and vice-versa. Humidity is so different in each place. It probably does not matter, though, for a couple of days. I hope it is a great trip for you.

  6. I’d never thought of either reason to haul or not haul shampoo. I figure I’m paying so much for the room, why not use the amenities? That also leaves more room in my luggage . . . .

  8. We’re supposed to get up to 50 degrees today. And since the sun is shining bright, perhaps a lot of this snow can melt off. Some of our streets are narrower because the plows had nowhere to put the snow.

  9. Morning! Pretty blue skies in that photo up there! We have those too but our backdrop includes Ponderosa Pines!
    Heading to Bible Study which is really a book study and not liking it much but I will complete it in another month…never again!
    I find when I travel it doesn’t matter much what shampoo/conditioner I use it’s the difference in water that will either agree with my hair or make it wonky. Unfortunately it usually makes it wonky!!

  12. Along the lines of Michelle’s article, there are some interesting depictions in original Chinese writing that I learned about while interacting with the Chinese in Greece and Italy. For example, as I recall, the picture for sin was a woman reaching for an apple.

  13. Shampoos and conditioners and soap. I tried to always remember to take my own so I would have some semblance of control over my hair and skin. The hotel stuff never worked for me. In part, my own solutions did tend to counter the changes in water and humidity. They helped.

  14. We’re having a weird spate of winter heat out here — and very dry air. So dry that my hair has all this static electricity in it, driving me crazy. I try brushing it off of my face and it just stands up and on end and won’t go where I try to tell it to go.

    I’ll use some conditioner today, maybe that’ll help.

    I’m out again with the back but likely will have to just get back to it tomorrow, I have an important port speech to cover in the morning (virtually, thankfully) — and one of our vacant buildings is being demolished which we’re covering as well, but I’ll have to let the photographer go alone and I’ll try to to write it afterward. I’m sure it’ll be filmed.

    I’m still moving in slow motion, mostly, and had some worse pain again first thing this morning, but I’ve taken the prescription anti-inflammatory which is already helping. I also need to drive to the vet’s today to pick up dog med refills.

  15. Husband was busily doing the dishes for me when he got a phone call, reminding him it is the second Tuesday and therefore highway commission meeting. He got ready quick as he could and was just heading out when he got a phone call concerning twenty and her future. When it rains, it pours. When he gets home, he takes them to horse riding lessons and then to Lewiston for the changed time for speech therapy. His life never stops.

  16. I loved hearing about the birds, Debra. Your comment brought remembrance of a former Wanderer who often told stories of bird sightings.

    I did see some really nice photos on Facebook posted by Phos/Roscuro of her time outdoors in nature. Beautiful. Her mom is not doing so well healthwise and Phos’ work continues to be grueling and a challenge. We can pray based on that info.

    My Bible study with the ladies continues to bring joy and enlightenment.

    The new neighbors appear to be having a whole new heating and air system put in. Wow! So soon after paying 472,000 for the home. I hope they knew they’d have this expense when buying the home and that it wasn’t a surprise expense. But with the timing being as it is, in February, it seems to me like a surprise necessity.

    We heard back from a local facility. They assured us that daughter is beyond their care but we are on the right track with the other facility. He says he knows them and they are really good and they will do well for her if she goes there.

  20. We always have to haul all our soaps, conditioners, shampoos and lotions as both of us are so sensitive to any fragrance. It does take up a lot of room – I would much rather use what is supplied but that just is not possible. I sometimes wonder what housekeeping thinks of all the stuff we bring and that we gather up all their stuff and stash it on the lower shelf or elsewhere out of the way.

  21. I take my own shampoo and soap. I have to have fragrance free soap. But I have small bottles bought at REI to hold my shampoo and it takes very little room.

  23. New neighbors are moving in 2 doors down, also — house wasn’t on the market for long, the former owner hiring a huge moving van, packed up everything and headed for Texas.

    The heating system may have been something the seller agreed to pay for? If the old one was faulty.

    Got the dog meds picked up and drove by So-Fi stadium which is just blocks from the vet’s office and on the way back to the fwy. It’s also within blocks of the cemetery where my parents are both buried (along with Tom Bradley, LA’s former mayor), and blocks from the hospital where my dad spent so much time for 3 years fighting cancer; he finally died there.

    Lots of memories, we moved to Inglewood from Hollywood when I was about 8 years old so many of my growing-up years are rooted in that city.

    Anyway, stadium looked like it was bustling with folks coming and going, all festooned out for Super Bowl.

    It’s 80 degrees here today.

    My back feels better, thankfully. It hurt quite a bit this morning, but I think the strain is on its way out.

  26. No, Inglewood Park Cemetery, founded in 1905. I think the sign now says it’s the “Soul of LA” or something like that.

    My friend Cheri also lived right around the stadium, we watched as the Forum, which is next to it, was built in the late 1960s; I’d stay overnight at her house quite often during the summers, we’d sleep until noon and then head for the beach, either her mom (who didn’t work) would drive us or we’d hop on the bus.

    I see Chet Baker and Johnny Cochran also are buried there — and Etta James, Robert Kardashian, Gypsy Rose Lee, Billy Preston, Sugar Ray Robinson — lots of other names I’m not recognizing.

  27. Today I did my own taxes for the first time in 36 years. (The last time would have been when I was 25, shortly before Hubby and I married.)

    Throughout our marriage, Hubby handled our taxes, either doing them himself, or in years when the return would be more complicated, going to a tax preparer. The year after he died, I went to H&R Block here in town. After that, there was no income to report.

    Then last year I started collecting Social Security and the Teamsters pension, so this year it was time to do my own taxes again. I used Turbo Tax, and they had a new free option! Except for having to ask Nightingale for advice on it once or twice, I was able to do it myself. Yay!

    And I am getting a refund. Another Yay!

  31. Watered the hanging flower pots and both Charlie Browns.

    Editor was very happy to hear I’d be back tomorrow, I have a port speech to cover online first thing in the morning but there also was another story on my beat, the ceremonial start of demolition of a closed courthouse in town, that another reporter will be sent to cover due to the time conflict. He also said we’d aim for no field work for me for a while with the back issue — it’s better, and it will pass, but still a little cranky here and there.

    Despite the pain, it was rather nice to have two whole days off, restful.

  36. I usually do my own taxes, lately with Credit Karma. But this year I think I’ll go to a professional since I have the pension now. Don’t want to mess up.

  38. This week is teacher appreciation week. Our principal is in quarantine for someone in the family with covid. But they had cinnamon rolls for us on Monday and yesterday was a huge chocolate cake. Today was chips and dip. We are all enjoying the treats.

    But, the best part for all of the teachers is that they are giving us an extra five minutes of recess.
