“According to campaign filings with the Federal Election Commission, Pelosi’s campaign paid a Virginia-based private aviation provider, Advanced Aviation Team, over $437,000 between October 2020 and December 2021 and over $65,000 to Clay Lacy Aviation, a California-based private jet provider,” Fox News reported on Monday.
Pelosi, who will run for re-election again this year at age 82, lead a 21-member congressional delegation to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland in November, where she said: “For me, it’s a religious thing. I believe this is God’s creation, and we have a moral obligation to be good stewards.”
“We must face the existential threat of our time: the climate crisis,” Pelosi said in January 2019 in her opening address to Congress. “The entire Congress must work to put an end to the inaction and denial of science that threaten the planet and the future.”
Later that year, Pelosi flew out with 13 other Democrats on a smoke-spewing jet or three, burning that evil fossil fuel, heading 3,781 miles across the Atlantic to the United Nations COP25 climate change conference in Madrid.

World Magazine has an interesting article, “The Ministry of the Sheepdog,” that speaks to the issue we were discussing yesterday. It is about training churches to be defensive to the threats that are here today. One of the churches that used this training was the one in Texas where they were held hostage. I think also of the one where the people invited in the young man to their bible study. They all treated him with love before he killed or injured so many. Christians cannot shy away from the truth of all that is possible. It is good to think it all through and then act as we are meant to do. Always in love, grace and truth. It is not a simplistic discussion to have, nor will we probably all agree on the best course of action in each case.

That was not my point in sharing that piece yesterday. As I said to Kathaleena, I agree that part of what the writer said went overboard, but I shared it for the part about communicating on social media, or even in real life.
Today in my Facebook Memories, this scripture came up that I had shared a few years ago, and I think it goes along with that conversation:
“”You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

Jesus didn’t mean – I don’t think – that we let evil have its way, but that we must be careful about how we fight it. As another verse says:
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Prayer is our greatest weapon, not name-calling. And that reminds me of this verse:
“But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.”
It’s an age with many conflicts and, yes, with genuine evil in our midst — but that makes it pretty much like any other age, actually not nearly so bad as in Jesus’ time.
It is up to churches to faithfully catechize its members.
And fighting the world’s evil, in a literal sense through bearing arms when necessary (and sometimes it is, there are things in this world that are worse than war, as horrible as that is) is something that belongs to the sphere of the civil authorities, not the church.
I think there’s a place for individual Christian pacifism based on conscience; but Christians do, of course, as individuals called to a specific vocation, serve in the armed forces and on police forces.
With civil (or uncivil? 🙂 ) politics, Christians can legitimately hold different views.

The things we don’t agree on, we should be able to discuss without belittling what God has made. We can say all sorts of stuff about the behavior, of course.

At my school, masks are optional. The only children wearing them are because a parent asked them to. I have one boy wearing a mask today, they are traveling next week
The real, I have no idea what they knew about the guy and why they were arresting him. Having seen a number of deputies and police and sheriffs in action, I doubt they were just being mean. A lot of helpless old guys aren’t. Ideally, the court would figure it out but they don’t seem up to the task anymore. They were not hurting him and he was not fighting them.
It was curious however that when asked why they were arresting him their reply was that he had no ID…so if one doesn’t have an ID you get arrested? I supposed if the older man had been in a car and speeding or otherwise I would expect him to show an ID…but as it appears he was standing on the sidewalk? Appeared to be a tad bit heavy handed to me…..
Again, we don’t know. Admittedly, we now have doubts about the intentions of officers. But generally, I think they care about people and law and are doing their best in the way they were trained. Nobody was hurt. Inconvenienced for sure.
For all I know, he is a local mentally ill guy that they know well and take off the street periodically so he can clean up and get his meds in order.
