“In the day long events commemorating January 6th, Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a telling statement to her fellow members and the public at large. Pelosi declared “It is essential that we preserve the narrative of January 6th.” Part of that narrative is that this was not a riot but an “insurrection,” an actual “rebellion” against our country. Pelosi’s concern over the viability of that narrative is well-based as shown by a recent CBS News poll. The majority of the public does not believe that this was an “insurrection” despite the mantra-like repetition of members of Congress and the media. The public saw that terrible day unfold a year ago and saw it for what it was: a protest that became a riot. (For full disclosure, I previously worked as a legal analyst for CBS News).
Not surprisingly, the poll received little comparative coverage on a day when reporters and commentators spoke of “the insurrection” as an undeniable fact. Yet, when CBS asked Americans, they received an answer that likely did not please many. Indeed, CBS did not highlight the answer to the question of whether the day was really a “protest that went too far.” The answer was overwhelming and nonpartisan. Some 76% believe that this was a protest that went too far.
That, however, was not one of the four options to the matinee question featured by CBS. It did not allow the public to call this a riot when it asked them to describe “What happened at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021?” Why? There was the ever present “insurrection” and “trying to overthrow government.” However, the other two options were “patriotism” or “defending freedom.” That is perfectly bizarre. The most obvious alternatives to an actual rebellion in a violent clash would be a protest or a riot. However, the public was simply not given those options.
The result was predictable. Some 85% of Democrats dutifully checked “an insurrection” or “trying to overthrow government” while only 21% and 18% of Republicans agreed respectively. For those who did not see the riot as an act of patriotism or defending freedom, they were simply left without a choice.
The poll perfectly captured the state of our media. There is no choice. Using the term insurrection is now a litmus test. In the age of rage, one’s legitimacy is based on your volume and fury. After the attack, I wrote that this was not an insurrection, but it was a desecration of our constitutional process. When I have used “riot” in columns, I have received a torrent of emails objecting to the characterization as proof of being an apologist or “Trumper.”
Yet, “insurrection” and “sedition” are legal terms. They have a meaning. The FBI investigated thousands after January 6th and charged hundreds. Not one is charged with insurrection or sedition or conspiracy to overthrow the country. The vast majority are charged with relatively minor offenses of trespass or unlawful entry or property damage- the type of charges that are common in protests and riots.”
“As an early New Year’s present, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a renewed face mask mandate for all public schools. Numerous upstate counties with more conservative officials immediately announced that they would not be complying with the order, while New York City quickly embraced the idea. But not all of the Big Apple is quite as blue as it was prior to the last set of local elections. This week, Nassau County on Long Island also bucked the trend. Newly elected county executive Bruce Blakeman announced that schools in his county would not be subject to the mandate and each local school board would be left to decide whether the policy should be implemented or not. At this point, a majority of New York counties are simply ignoring the Governor’s order and there doesn’t seem to be anything she can do about it. (National Review)
Nassau County’s newly sworn-in Republican county executive issued an order on Thursday allowing school districts to decide whether to institute mask mandates, in defiance of New York State policy.
“School boards are comprised of elected officials who make decisions based upon the unique circumstances of each district,” county executive Bruce Blakeman said at a press conference. “They are in the best position to make these decisions, not an autocracy in Albany.”
Blakeman signed three executive orders on Thursday, including one that allows the county’s school boards to get rid of mask mandates that Governor Kathy Hochul has implemented statewide. He expressed confidence that the order provides sufficient legal grounds for schools to go against Hochul’s mandate.
It’s important to note that Blakeman isn’t banning face mask mandates. He’s adopting one of the more conservative positions he took when running for office last year. The level of government that resides closest to the voters is the most responsive and best suited to make individual decisions. In this case, he’s leaving it up to the school boards as to whether they want to impose a mask mandate.
Nor is the county executive banning masks for anyone. Even at schools without mandates, anyone who wants to wear a mask is free to do so. It’s a question of individual choice.
Bruce Blakeman was part of the red wave that swept over Long Island in November. He ran on a platform of law and order, rejecting the “bail reform” initiatives that led to spiraling crime rates in all five boroughs of the city. Democrats had dominated Long Island politics for the previous 15 years, but they lost every county-level seat that was up for grabs in the last election, including the county executive’s office. Now Blakeman is bringing more conservative policies into play than just a renewed focus on combatting crime.”

“This story is already more than 2 weeks old since I missed it when it was published prior to Christmas, but I think it still deserves attention. Last year you may recall there was a local news story about a high school in Baltimore where a student with a 0.13 GPA turned out to be roughly in the middle of his class. In other words, nearly half the students in his grade had a GPA that was lower than 0.13. How was that possible?
The local reporter followed up that initial story with a whole series of reports which suggested the answer to that question was organized fraud by teachers and administrators. In fact, the school was enrolling so-called “ghost students” in classes that they never attended, apparently as a way to claim more resources from the state.
The reporter kept digging and kept making more shocking discoveries. For instance, it wasn’t just the one bad high school where students were outright failing. After gaining access to documents that showed the GPA of every high school student in Baltimore, he found that 41% of them had a GPA below 1.0.
Then in September a report issued by Baltimore City Schools (which for some reason took two years to complete) concluded that ghost students and ghost classes were common at the high school that initially prompted all of this. Last month reporter Chris Papst came back with another report based on new documents which showed a majority of freshmen entering that high school were reading at an elementary school level:
The data we received is from before the COVID shutdowns. During the 2018-2019 school year, 48 Augusta Fells juniors took the reading test, 11 tested at a third-grade reading level. In that same year, out of 54 tenth graders tested, 27 were reading at a third or fourth-grade level. We don’t know where the other half tested. City Schools won’t release the data. Fifty-five freshman took the reading test during the 2017-2018 school year, and well over half, at least 39, were reading at elementary school levels.
Those findings didn’t surprise a former middle school teacher who asked to remain anonymous:
“I cried the whole way home my first day after working, because I was like, ‘Is this America, if this is what is happening in our schools?’. I mean, I remember, I just wanted to tell everyone, I was like, this is happening in America, and no one’s really saying anything about it,” said the former teacher.
The former Baltimore City teacher told us she had 28 students in her eighth-grade class.
“I would say around half of them couldn’t read to the point where they could fully understand what they were supposed to be doing,” said the teacher.
Obviously this helps explain how 40% of Baltimore high school students have a GPA below 1.0. If you can’t read it’s going to be pretty hard to succeed in higher grades. The problem in Baltimore isn’t starting with bad high schools, that’s just where teachers and administrators are taking desperate (potentially illegal) action to cover up for years of failure.
But the most striking thing about this story is that it remains a local news story. How is it possible that an American city can be failing students this completely and it never even makes the national news? In fact, it barely seems to make the local news outside of this one reporter. People should be mad as hell about what is happening here. Parents should be screaming at school officials and demanding better for their kids and as you’ll see in the report below, some of them are.”

Defense seeks new trial: “Among other things, the Juror told reporters that he disclosed to the other members of the jury during deliberations that he was a victim of sexual abuse and further described his memory of those events. According to the Juror, his disclosure influenced the deliberations and convinced other members of the jury to convict Ms. Maxwell.”
“Ghislain Maxwell was convicted on 5 of 6 charges in her sex trafficking trial, related to her time as a consort to Jeffrey Epstein. She faced a long prison sentence that, at her age of 60, would be the equivalent of life in prison.
And then a bombshell dropped today. The NY Times reported that the prosecutors alerted the court to possible misconduct by two jurors:
Federal prosecutors on Wednesday asked the judge who oversaw Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex-trafficking trial to investigate the process by which one of the jurors was chosen, after he told news outlets he was a sexual abuse victim and had discussed his experience during deliberations.
The prosecutors’ request, in a letter filed with the court, raised the possibility of additional inquiry into how jurors who voted to convict Ms. Maxwell had been selected and the prospect of Ms. Maxwell’s lawyers moving to have a mistrial declared in the closely watched case.
Later on Wednesday, Ms. Maxwell’s lawyers indicated they planned to do just that, saying in two letters to the judge that their client would seek a new trial and that the judge “can and should order” one without holding a hearing, as the government had requested….
In another potential complication, a second juror described in an interview with The New York Times having been sexually abused as a child. This juror, who requested anonymity, said that they, too, had discussed the experience during deliberations and that the revelation had appeared to help shape the jury’s discussions.
The two jurors’ disclosures could be particularly problematic if they failed to note their experiences to the court during jury selection. All the potential jurors in the case were asked in a confidential questionnaire whether they or any relatives or friends had been the victim of sexual abuse or harassment.
The juror who was interviewed by the other news outlets, including The Independent and Reuters, could not immediately be reached for comment on Wednesday.”

During the first year of the Biden Administration, you made nary a peep as Biden filled his cabinet with Obama loyalists and left-wing radicals. My favorite moment was when every member of the committee voted to advance the nomination of Lisa Monaco—Barack Obama’s hyperpartisan homeland security advisor, Russiagate architect, and former chief of staff to FBI Director Robert Mueller—to serve as deputy attorney general. She is what Andrew Weissmann was to Mueller when he was special counsel; the vengeful, Republican-hating prosecutor calling the shots behind the grandfatherly veneer of Attorney General Merrick Garland.
But don’t feel bad. Every Republican senator, except two, voted to confirm Monaco last April. As I wrote after her confirmation, “rather than act as any sort of barrier to protect America from the arsonist-in-chief hellbent on burning down every tradition, constitutional guardrail, and notion of common decency owed to fellow Americans, Senate Republicans are handing Joe Biden the matches.”
Senators Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) were the only Republicans to vote against Monaco. But Cruz just stepped in a mound of political guano this week when he described the four-hour disturbance at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 as a “violent terrorist attack.” That comment was not only music to Monaco’s ears but pleased every January 6 propagandist on the Left from Joe Biden and FBI Director Christopher Wray—who also designated the protest an act of domestic terror—down to the average low-IQ CNN viewer.
Cruz’s remarks, which included high praise for Capitol Police, the agency responsible for the shooting death of an unarmed female veteran that afternoon, resulted in widespread condemnation on social media and by Fox News host Tucker Carlson. To quell the outrage, Cruz appeared on Carlson’s show Thursday evening to explain himself.
It did not go well.
Cruz confessed that his words were “sloppy” and misunderstood. People who attack police officers, Cruz insisted, are “terrorists” not the thousands of peaceful protesters in attendance on January 6. He spent a few minutes tossing a verbal word salad before an increasingly skeptical Carlson interrupted Cruz and confessed, “I just don’t believe you.”
Ouch.
The Texas senator and Republican presidential prospect, however, regained a bit of his footing at the end of the interview. After Carlson played footage of Ray Epps, a January 6 agitator suspected of being a government asset, Cruz said Epps’ provocative behavior “suggests he was working for the FBI.” Garland and the Justice Department, Cruz said, won’t answer whether Epps and other FBI informants and agents were involved with the events of January 6.
Well, this Tuesday, Cruz and the rest of you have a chance to ask again. And again. And again.”
“Just as the investigation into the “terror attack” of January 6 was in full swing in the autumn of 2021, court proceedings in the alleged 2020 plot to kidnap of Governor Gretchen Whitmer began in Michigan.
When 13 men allegedly tied to militia groups were arrested on October 7 of this year on federal and state charges for planning to kidnap Whitmer from her Michigan vacation cottage, Team Biden and Whitmer herself made the most of the timely political gift. “There is a through line from President Trump’s dog whistles and tolerance of hate, vengeance, and lawlessness to plots such as this one,” Biden said in an October 9 statement. “He is giving oxygen to the bigotry and hate we see on the march in our country.”
In a press release announcing the arrest of six of the plotters on federal charges, the Justice Department detailed the elaborate plan. “This group used operational security measures, including communicating by encrypted messaging platforms. On two occasions, members of the alleged conspiracy conducted coordinated surveillance on the Governor’s vacation home . . . and discussed detonating explosive devices to divert police.” The wannabe kidnappers planned to use a taser gun on Whitmer then either abandon her in a boat on a nearby lake or transport her to Wisconsin to stand trial. “These alleged extremists undertook a plot to kidnap a sitting governor,” the assistant FBI special agent in charge said in the statement. “Whenever extremists move into the realm of actually planning violent acts, the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force stands ready to identify, disrupt, and dismantle their operations, preventing them from following through on those plans.”
Investigating—or Planning—the Plot?
But the Justice Department’s description failed to match reality as court documents and testimony would show. Far from the FBI thwarting the operation, the FBI itself enlisted participants, organized and funded training and surveillance trips, and used paid informants working with FBI agents to lure unsuspecting “militia” members into attempting to execute the plot.
The scheme centered around a group called the Wolverine Watchmen, an unknown “militia” group formed online in late 2019 by another man who faced state, not federal, charges related to the plot. (The man, Joseph Morrison, created a Facebook page for the new group four days after he was arrested on a weapons charge, which was pleaded down to a misdemeanor with time served—one day in jail.) It was essentially a small online group of malcontents, more smoke than fire.
An extensive exposé published in July 2021 by BuzzFeed News detailed how the plot went down and the close involvement of at least twelve FBI agents and informants. Contradicting the government’s early claims, the site’s investigative reporters concluded the following: “An examination of the case by BuzzFeed News also reveals that some of those informants, acting under the direction of the FBI, played a far larger role than has previously been reported,” Ken Bensinger and Jessica Garrison wrote on July 20. “Working in secret, they did more than just passively observe and report on the actions of the suspects. Instead, they had a hand in nearly every aspect of the alleged plot, starting with its inception. The extent of their involvement raises questions as to whether there would have even been a conspiracy without them.”
The insurrectionary plot had the government’s fingerprints all over it. Every man involved in the kidnapping scheme had an FBI handler. According to a filing by one defense lawyer, “the government has shared ID numbers linked to 12 confidential informants but, with one exception, has not provided background on how they were recruited, what payments they may have received from the FBI, where they are based, or what their names are.” The lead informant, known as “Big Dan,” was paid at least $54,000 by the FBI for seven months of work, a sum that included reimbursing him for a loss when he sold his home out of fear his identity would be revealed.
Special agent Jayson Chambers, while working the Whitmer case, also coaxed “Big Dan” to enlist another man in Virginia to concoct a plot to kill Virginia Governor Ralph Northam. Chambers made clear to “Big Dan” what he was supposed to convince “Frank,” his target, a disabled Vietnam veteran, to do. “The mission is to kill the governor specifically,” Chambers texted. He further instructed “Big Dan” to tell “Frank” how to build an explosive device, an approach similar to the one used in the Whitmer scheme.
Re: incidental covid
There are actually real cases of incidental covid. Every person who gets admitted to the hospital has to get a covid test, since the vaccination does not actually prevent covid. You have to know their status at the point they are admitted to prevent spreading it to other ill patients. I have personally seen a 17 year old being admitted for acute appendicitis who “incidentally” tested positive. No signs or symptoms, just a positive finding. Now our surgical personnel know they have to wear N-95 for surgery, rather than just a surgical mask. We have had several instances like that, where the pt is admitted for surgery or trauma, and they “incidentally” test positive for covid, without having any symptoms.

So adding 200K jobs in one month is disappointing — sure its not as good as predicted but its better than average. And better than the Trump era. It brought the unemployment rate from 4.2% to 3.9%. Not a bad result as a new variant arrives and in an era called the Great Resignation. You have to go back to Trump’s first year to get those stats. Almost as good as the Obama era.
Why is the Supreme Court discussing vaccines and health policy? Why bring this to court? Other than which level of gov’t has jurisdiction there’s no role for the court here. The US relies far too much on their judicial system — probably because the legislative branch gets nothing done. Health decisions shouldn’t be made by unelected people with legal not medical training.

I’m not a woman but I work in a female dominated profession, was married once, and raised a girl by myself thus I’m quite sure a lot of things will throw off a menstrual cycle by a day.A vaccine isn’t unusual in that respect. A trip, a holiday, change in diet, anti-depressants, use of birth control etc. Not a reason to avoid a vaccine.

While American public university have a very good reputation world wide, the same cannot be said for K-12 education. In international testing the US is usually beaten by Canada, AUS/NZ, East Asia and northern Europe. In many cases its the uneven quality which is the problem, while most countries have a regional or federal strategy and funding, the US funds their schools locally — thus you have amazing public schools with equipment and facilities better than a college and a few miles across a city, you have schools that resemble third world conditions. Unless the US adapts at the very least a state wide strategy, you will have Baltimore type districts or have teachers on their hands and knees stuffing dollar bills down their shirt to a cheering crowd.
The rate dropped because more folks left the workforce (and not because they retired) so they’re no longer counted.

People who are returning to work after being laid off or suffering job loss due to Covid, or Dems stupid, un-American lock down policies are not “new” jobs. They’re simply returning to their previous jobs. But that’s not how Biden counts them though, because he’s a deceiver.
You have not added any jobs over what we lost due to Democrat caused lockdowns and closures.
We are still at fewer jobs than we had in February of 2020, and job growth is now nearly non-existant.
You have missed expectations every single quarter.
You accepted the EI rate during the Trump years but during the Obama years you said labour participation rate was more important. I checked. The employment figures have gone up from 57 to 59% over 2021. Generally speaking it averaged 62-64% until 2008 when it dropped to 58%. From 2010 to 2020 there was a gradual increase back to 61%. In 2020 it dropped to 51%. The president really doesn’t matter in these stats — a recession (or Covid) recovery will spark higher numbers — see 2010 and now again.
The usual jobs created stat is around 150K. At 200K, Biden is above average. Several months I did say Biden was benefiting from the Covid recovery. Economists estimated 400K because they thought there was still some recovery influenced numbers happening. If they did hit 400K I’d agree with that its a recovery bounce but at 200K its mostly normal growth.
It looks like the Covid bounce is over so the 200K is mostly new jobs. Those returning to previous jobs probably already did and accounted for the inflated numbers in the beginning of the year. Many have not returned to their previous jobs instead have taken new jobs. The staffing shortage in the hospitality sector indicates that many people have not returning to their restaurant, bar/club, cleaning services, hotels, etc jobs and why would they — minimal wage for maximum risk? No, they went elsewhere.
Did they go on welfare — very hard to determine in the US; welfare rates are mislaeading as many programs deemed welfare such as food stamps are often used by people working full time….in effect the US gov’t subsidizes Walmart, for example. Looking at the missing 100K Hispanic, its highly doubtful they went on welfare. Boomer retirement rates are increasing. Around 3 million Americans retired in 2020, and 2021 will probably be about 1.5 – 2 million; the former is a covid bounce. 100K Hispanic workers easily fit into that group but there’s a vast array of other reasons to stop working — pregnancy, children, disability, emigration, education, etc. In all Biden’s job numbers in December are normal non-Covid numbers.

““Preserve the Narrative”: The Public Rejects the “Insurrection” Claim in New Polling”
“In the day long events commemorating January 6th, Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a telling statement to her fellow members and the public at large. Pelosi declared “It is essential that we preserve the narrative of January 6th.” Part of that narrative is that this was not a riot but an “insurrection,” an actual “rebellion” against our country. Pelosi’s concern over the viability of that narrative is well-based as shown by a recent CBS News poll. The majority of the public does not believe that this was an “insurrection” despite the mantra-like repetition of members of Congress and the media. The public saw that terrible day unfold a year ago and saw it for what it was: a protest that became a riot. (For full disclosure, I previously worked as a legal analyst for CBS News).
Not surprisingly, the poll received little comparative coverage on a day when reporters and commentators spoke of “the insurrection” as an undeniable fact. Yet, when CBS asked Americans, they received an answer that likely did not please many. Indeed, CBS did not highlight the answer to the question of whether the day was really a “protest that went too far.” The answer was overwhelming and nonpartisan. Some 76% believe that this was a protest that went too far.
That, however, was not one of the four options to the matinee question featured by CBS. It did not allow the public to call this a riot when it asked them to describe “What happened at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021?” Why? There was the ever present “insurrection” and “trying to overthrow government.” However, the other two options were “patriotism” or “defending freedom.” That is perfectly bizarre. The most obvious alternatives to an actual rebellion in a violent clash would be a protest or a riot. However, the public was simply not given those options.
The result was predictable. Some 85% of Democrats dutifully checked “an insurrection” or “trying to overthrow government” while only 21% and 18% of Republicans agreed respectively. For those who did not see the riot as an act of patriotism or defending freedom, they were simply left without a choice.
The poll perfectly captured the state of our media. There is no choice. Using the term insurrection is now a litmus test. In the age of rage, one’s legitimacy is based on your volume and fury. After the attack, I wrote that this was not an insurrection, but it was a desecration of our constitutional process. When I have used “riot” in columns, I have received a torrent of emails objecting to the characterization as proof of being an apologist or “Trumper.”
Yet, “insurrection” and “sedition” are legal terms. They have a meaning. The FBI investigated thousands after January 6th and charged hundreds. Not one is charged with insurrection or sedition or conspiracy to overthrow the country. The vast majority are charged with relatively minor offenses of trespass or unlawful entry or property damage- the type of charges that are common in protests and riots.”

Numerous upstate counties with more conservative officials immediately announced that they would not be complying with the order, while New York City quickly embraced the idea. But not all of the Big Apple is quite as blue as it was prior to the last set of local elections. This week, Nassau County on Long Island also bucked the trend. Nassau County’s newly sworn-in Republican county executive issued an order on Thursday allowing school districts to decide whether to institute mask mandates, in defiance of New York State policy.
“School boards are comprised of elected officials who make decisions based upon the unique circumstances of each district,” county executive Bruce Blakeman said at a press conference. “They are in the best position to make these decisions, not an autocracy in Albany.”
Blakeman signed three executive orders on Thursday, including one that allows the county’s school boards to get rid of mask mandates that Governor Kathy Hochul has implemented statewide. He expressed confidence that the order provides sufficient legal grounds for schools to go against Hochul’s mandate.
It’s important to note that Blakeman isn’t banning face mask mandates. He’s adopting one of the more conservative positions he took when running for office last year. The level of government that resides closest to the voters is the most responsive and best suited to make individual decisions. In this case, he’s leaving it up to the school boards as to whether they want to impose a mask mandate.
Nor is the county executive banning masks for anyone. Even at schools without mandates, anyone who wants to wear a mask is free to do so. It’s a question of individual choice.
Bruce Blakeman was part of the red wave that swept over Long Island in November. He ran on a platform of law and order, rejecting the “bail reform” initiatives that led to spiraling crime rates in all five boroughs of the city. Democrats had dominated Long Island politics for the previous 15 years, but they lost every county-level seat that was up for grabs in the last election, including the county executive’s office. Now Blakeman is bringing more conservative policies into play than just a renewed focus on combatting crime.”

“This story is already more than 2 weeks old since I missed it when it was published prior to Christmas, but I think it still deserves attention. Last year you may recall there was a local news story about a high school in Baltimore where a student with a 0.13 GPA turned out to be roughly in the middle of his class. In other words, nearly half the students in his grade had a GPA that was lower than 0.13. How was that possible?
The local reporter followed up that initial story with a whole series of reports which suggested the answer to that question was organized fraud by teachers and administrators. In fact, the school was enrolling so-called “ghost students” in classes that they never attended, apparently as a way to claim more resources from the state.
The reporter kept digging and kept making more shocking discoveries. For instance, it wasn’t just the one bad high school where students were outright failing. After gaining access to documents that showed the GPA of every high school student in Baltimore, he found that 41% of them had a GPA below 1.0.
Then in September a report issued by Baltimore City Schools (which for some reason took two years to complete) concluded that ghost students and ghost classes were common at the high school that initially prompted all of this. Last month reporter Chris Papst came back with another report based on new documents which showed a majority of freshmen entering that high school were reading at an elementary school level:
The data we received is from before the COVID shutdowns. During the 2018-2019 school year, 48 Augusta Fells juniors took the reading test, 11 tested at a third-grade reading level. In that same year, out of 54 tenth graders tested, 27 were reading at a third or fourth-grade level. We don’t know where the other half tested. City Schools won’t release the data. Fifty-five freshman took the reading test during the 2017-2018 school year, and well over half, at least 39, were reading at elementary school levels.
Those findings didn’t surprise a former middle school teacher who asked to remain anonymous:
“I cried the whole way home my first day after working, because I was like, ‘Is this America, if this is what is happening in our schools?’. I mean, I remember, I just wanted to tell everyone, I was like, this is happening in America, and no one’s really saying anything about it,” said the former teacher.
The former Baltimore City teacher told us she had 28 students in her eighth-grade class.
“I would say around half of them couldn’t read to the point where they could fully understand what they were supposed to be doing,” said the teacher.
Obviously this helps explain how 40% of Baltimore high school students have a GPA below 1.0. If you can’t read it’s going to be pretty hard to succeed in higher grades. The problem in Baltimore isn’t starting with bad high schools, that’s just where teachers and administrators are taking desperate (potentially illegal) action to cover up for years of failure.
But the most striking thing about this story is that it remains a local news story. How is it possible that an American city can be failing students this completely and it never even makes the national news? In fact, it barely seems to make the local news outside of this one reporter. People should be mad as hell about what is happening here. Parents should be screaming at school officials and demanding better for their kids and as you’ll see in the report below, some of them are.”

And then a bombshell dropped today. The NY Times reported that the prosecutors alerted the court to possible misconduct by two jurors:
Federal prosecutors on Wednesday asked the judge who oversaw Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex-trafficking trial to investigate the process by which one of the jurors was chosen, after he told news outlets he was a sexual abuse victim and had discussed his experience during deliberations.
The prosecutors’ request, in a letter filed with the court, raised the possibility of additional inquiry into how jurors who voted to convict Ms. Maxwell had been selected and the prospect of Ms. Maxwell’s lawyers moving to have a mistrial declared in the closely watched case.
Later on Wednesday, Ms. Maxwell’s lawyers indicated they planned to do just that, saying in two letters to the judge that their client would seek a new trial and that the judge “can and should order” one without holding a hearing, as the government had requested….
In another potential complication, a second juror described in an interview with The New York Times having been sexually abused as a child. This juror, who requested anonymity, said that they, too, had discussed the experience during deliberations and that the revelation had appeared to help shape the jury’s discussions.
The two jurors’ disclosures could be particularly problematic if they failed to note their experiences to the court during jury selection. All the potential jurors in the case were asked in a confidential questionnaire whether they or any relatives or friends had been the victim of sexual abuse or harassment.
The juror who was interviewed by the other news outlets, including The Independent and Reuters, could not immediately be reached for comment on Wednesday.”

Remember all the promises to “get to the bottom” of Russiagate, the biggest political scandal and abuse of government power in history? (Well, until January 6.)
Remember how you let Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Democratic activists hijack the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh, which led to a humiliating and divisive showdown between the Supreme Court nominee and his half-baked accuser?
Oh, and remember that lengthy investigative report you issued a few months later that accused people of lying to Congress and referred them to the Justice Department (which you purportedly oversee) on criminal charges but nothing ever happened?

During the first year of the Biden Administration, you made nary a peep as Biden filled his cabinet with Obama loyalists and left-wing radicals. My favorite moment was when every member of the committee voted to advance the nomination of Lisa Monaco—Barack Obama’s hyperpartisan homeland security advisor, Russiagate architect, and former chief of staff to FBI Director Robert Mueller—to serve as deputy attorney general. She is what Andrew Weissmann was to Mueller when he was special counsel; the vengeful, Republican-hating prosecutor calling the shots behind the grandfatherly veneer of Attorney General Merrick Garland.
But don’t feel bad. Every Republican senator, except two, voted to confirm Monaco last April. As I wrote after her confirmation, “rather than act as any sort of barrier to protect America from the arsonist-in-chief hellbent on burning down every tradition, constitutional guardrail, and notion of common decency owed to fellow Americans, Senate Republicans are handing Joe Biden the matches.”
Senators Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) were the only Republicans to vote against Monaco. But Cruz just stepped in a mound of political guano this week when he described the four-hour disturbance at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 as a “violent terrorist attack.” That comment was not only music to Monaco’s ears but pleased every January 6 propagandist on the Left from Joe Biden and FBI Director Christopher Wray—who also designated the protest an act of domestic terror—down to the average low-IQ CNN viewer.
Cruz’s remarks, which included high praise for Capitol Police, the agency responsible for the shooting death of an unarmed female veteran that afternoon, resulted in widespread condemnation on social media and by Fox News host Tucker Carlson. To quell the outrage, Cruz appeared on Carlson’s show Thursday evening to explain himself.
It did not go well.
Cruz confessed that his words were “sloppy” and misunderstood. People who attack police officers, Cruz insisted, are “terrorists” not the thousands of peaceful protesters in attendance on January 6. He spent a few minutes tossing a verbal word salad before an increasingly skeptical Carlson interrupted Cruz and confessed, “I just don’t believe you.”
Ouch.
The Texas senator and Republican presidential prospect, however, regained a bit of his footing at the end of the interview. After Carlson played footage of Ray Epps, a January 6 agitator suspected of being a government asset, Cruz said Epps’ provocative behavior “suggests he was working for the FBI.” Garland and the Justice Department, Cruz said, won’t answer whether Epps and other FBI informants and agents were involved with the events of January 6.
Well, this Tuesday, Cruz and the rest of you have a chance to ask again. And again. And again.”

“Just as the investigation into the “terror attack” of January 6 was in full swing in the autumn of 2021, court proceedings in the alleged 2020 plot to kidnap of Governor Gretchen Whitmer began in Michigan.
When 13 men allegedly tied to militia groups were arrested on October 7 of this year on federal and state charges for planning to kidnap Whitmer from her Michigan vacation cottage, Team Biden and Whitmer herself made the most of the timely political gift. “There is a through line from President Trump’s dog whistles and tolerance of hate, vengeance, and lawlessness to plots such as this one,” Biden said in an October 9 statement. “He is giving oxygen to the bigotry and hate we see on the march in our country.”
In a press release announcing the arrest of six of the plotters on federal charges, the Justice Department detailed the elaborate plan. “This group used operational security measures, including communicating by encrypted messaging platforms. On two occasions, members of the alleged conspiracy conducted coordinated surveillance on the Governor’s vacation home . . . and discussed detonating explosive devices to divert police.” The wannabe kidnappers planned to use a taser gun on Whitmer then either abandon her in a boat on a nearby lake or transport her to Wisconsin to stand trial. “These alleged extremists undertook a plot to kidnap a sitting governor,” the assistant FBI special agent in charge said in the statement. “Whenever extremists move into the realm of actually planning violent acts, the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force stands ready to identify, disrupt, and dismantle their operations, preventing them from following through on those plans.”
Investigating—or Planning—the Plot?
But the Justice Department’s description failed to match reality as court documents and testimony would show. Far from the FBI thwarting the operation, the FBI itself enlisted participants, organized and funded training and surveillance trips, and used paid informants working with FBI agents to lure unsuspecting “militia” members into attempting to execute the plot.
The scheme centered around a group called the Wolverine Watchmen, an unknown “militia” group formed online in late 2019 by another man who faced state, not federal, charges related to the plot. (The man, Joseph Morrison, created a Facebook page for the new group four days after he was arrested on a weapons charge, which was pleaded down to a misdemeanor with time served—one day in jail.) It was essentially a small online group of malcontents, more smoke than fire.
An extensive exposé published in July 2021 by BuzzFeed News detailed how the plot went down and the close involvement of at least twelve FBI agents and informants. Contradicting the government’s early claims, the site’s investigative reporters concluded the following: “An examination of the case by BuzzFeed News also reveals that some of those informants, acting under the direction of the FBI, played a far larger role than has previously been reported,” Ken Bensinger and Jessica Garrison wrote on July 20. “Working in secret, they did more than just passively observe and report on the actions of the suspects. Instead, they had a hand in nearly every aspect of the alleged plot, starting with its inception. The extent of their involvement raises questions as to whether there would have even been a conspiracy without them.”
The insurrectionary plot had the government’s fingerprints all over it. Every man involved in the kidnapping scheme had an FBI handler. According to a filing by one defense lawyer, “the government has shared ID numbers linked to 12 confidential informants but, with one exception, has not provided background on how they were recruited, what payments they may have received from the FBI, where they are based, or what their names are.” The lead informant, known as “Big Dan,” was paid at least $54,000 by the FBI for seven months of work, a sum that included reimbursing him for a loss when he sold his home out of fear his identity would be revealed.
Special agent Jayson Chambers, while working the Whitmer case, also coaxed “Big Dan” to enlist another man in Virginia to concoct a plot to kill Virginia Governor Ralph Northam. Chambers made clear to “Big Dan” what he was supposed to convince “Frank,” his target, a disabled Vietnam veteran, to do. “The mission is to kill the governor specifically,” Chambers texted. He further instructed “Big Dan” to tell “Frank” how to build an explosive device, an approach similar to the one used in the Whitmer scheme.

Re: incidental covid
There are actually real cases of incidental covid. Every person who gets admitted to the hospital has to get a covid test, since the vaccination does not actually prevent covid. You have to know their status at the point they are admitted to prevent spreading it to other ill patients. I have personally seen a 17 year old being admitted for acute appendicitis who “incidentally” tested positive. No signs or symptoms, just a positive finding. So adding 200K jobs in one month is disappointing — sure its not as good as predicted but its better than average. And better than the Trump era. It brought the unemployment rate from 4.2% to 3.9%. Not a bad result as a new variant arrives and in an era called the Great Resignation. You have to go back to Trump’s first year to get those stats. Almost as good as the Obama era.
Why is the Supreme Court discussing vaccines and health policy? Why bring this to court? Other than which level of gov’t has jurisdiction there’s no role for the court here. The US relies far too much on their judicial system — probably because the legislative branch gets nothing done. Health decisions shouldn’t be made by unelected people with legal not medical training.
The Democrats will push the Jan 6th insurrection right into the midterms. I’m sure there’s polling to back up this strategy. Since 20% of Republicans agree with this narrative — its a winning strategy.
I’m not a woman but I work in a female dominated profession, was married once, and raised a girl by myself thus I’m quite sure a lot of things will throw off a menstrual cycle by a day.A vaccine isn’t unusual in that respect. A trip, a holiday, change in diet, anti-depressants, use of birth control etc. Not a reason to avoid a vaccine.

While American public university have a very good reputation world wide, the same cannot be said for K-12 education. In international testing the US is usually beaten by Canada, AUS/NZ, East Asia and northern Europe. In many cases its the uneven quality which is the problem, while most countries have a regional or federal strategy and funding, the US funds their schools locally — thus you have amazing public schools with equipment and facilities better than a college and a few miles across a city, you have schools that resemble third world conditions. Unless the US adapts at the very least a state wide strategy, you will have Baltimore type districts or have teachers on their hands and knees stuffing dollar bills down their shirt to a cheering crowd.

People who are returning to work after being laid off or suffering job loss due to Covid, or Dems stupid, un-American lock down policies are not “new” jobs. They’re simply returning to their previous jobs. But that’s not how Biden counts them though, because he’s a deceiver.

You accepted the EI rate during the Trump years but during the Obama years you said labour participation rate was more important. I checked. The employment figures have gone up from 57 to 59% over 2021. Generally speaking it averaged 62-64% until 2008 when it dropped to 58%. From 2010 to 2020 there was a gradual increase back to 61%. In 2020 it dropped to 51%. The president really doesn’t matter in these stats — a recession (or Covid) recovery will spark higher numbers — see 2010 and now again.
The usual jobs created stat is around 150K. At 200K, Biden is above average. Several months I did say Biden was benefiting from the Covid recovery. Economists estimated 400K because they thought there was still some recovery influenced numbers happening. If they did hit 400K I’d agree with that its a recovery bounce but at 200K its mostly normal growth.
It looks like the Covid bounce is over so the 200K is mostly new jobs. Those returning to previous jobs probably already did and accounted for the inflated numbers in the beginning of the year. Many have not returned to their previous jobs instead have taken new jobs. The staffing shortage in the hospitality sector indicates that many people have not returning to their restaurant, bar/club, cleaning services, hotels, etc jobs and why would they — minimal wage for maximum risk? No, they went elsewhere.
Did they go on welfare — very hard to determine in the US; welfare rates are mislaeading as many programs deemed welfare such as food stamps are often used by people working full time….in effect the US gov’t subsidizes Walmart, for example. Looking at the missing 100K Hispanic, its highly doubtful they went on welfare. Boomer retirement rates are increasing. Around 3 million Americans retired in 2020, and 2021 will probably be about 1.5 – 2 million; the former is a covid bounce. 100K Hispanic workers easily fit into that group but there’s a vast array of other reasons to stop working — pregnancy, children, disability, emigration, education, etc. In all Biden’s job numbers in December are normal non-Covid numbers.
