Prayer Requests 1-6-22

It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her students, and the people of PNG.

Anyone else?

Psalm 139

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.

You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
    you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
    and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.

13 For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
    they would outnumber the grains of sand—
    when I awake, I am still with you.

19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
    Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
    your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,
    and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
    I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting.

  1. Mumsee, you are probably already taking supplements, but hydrate well, and take extra vitamin C and Zinc, and vitamin D if you can keep them down. They gave these to C when he was in the hospital. Praying for a speedy recovery with no ill aftereffects from whatever it is you have.

    Prayers for the family that hosted us for Christmas: they have covid and are having a rough time of it. Their daughter who is a covid nurse also has it (she hosted us all at Thanksgiving). They are all in their 40’s and younger, so I’m praying they have no lasting ill effects. ( I have been to the doctor and tested negative.)

  2. Just surprised at how quickly it slammed all three of us. Husband tries to stay away, upstairs mostly, to get away from twenty and her demands. Went to bed last night with dry coughing, miserable headaches and woke to all over body aches and headaches. No nausea as yet.

    Debra, zinc, elderberry, tangerines, apples, vitamin D have all been part of the routine since daughter came home sick five days ago.

  3. Prayers for recovery, that all sounds miserable. Is there a doctor / pharmacy close enough? If it’s the flu, you can get a prescription for Tamaflu (?) which helps cut the worst of the symptoms if taken in the first 24-48 hours. My GP ordered that for me once, even though I’d been sick already for a few days by the time I called.

  4. DJ, you missed the part where we are snowed in. Completely. The nearest pharmacy is in the town where my postponed dr appt was to be so the road is closed, not to mention our local roads being impassable. Husband called to cancel my appt again. They said that was fine because they were fairly certain the doctor could not get in either.

  5. Is there someone healthy enough in the household to look after you all? Bring you soup or other liquids if you can’t eat right now, make sure you’re warm enough, throw wood on the stove so you’re not having to get up, handle whatever chores there are? I remember how sick I was one year with the regular seasonal flu, it can be pretty severe. And living alone when you’re that sick can be a bit challenging on some levels.

  6. Oh, we are the picture of health. Continuing with our chores and reading and chores and reading. Nobody is too sick to function and I am of the opinion, a bit of exercise is good. When we had low oxygen levels this past summer (probably covid) we found when our O2 dropped into the mid eighties, it was good to do some jumping jacks or such to bring it back up. As long as people are not too sick for that, we do bits and pieces of activity. Son is out shoveling. Daughter will go do some. I did. Husband is the well one but we are keeping our distance from him so he can stay that way. He is grilling chicken legs for us. I am roasting veggies. Life goes on.

  7. But if we lived in Winchester, we would only be a hop skip and a jump from the highway. Which, though it was closed early in this storm, is currently open, I believe.

  8. Mumsee, I knew you did hibiscus for bp, but was not sure you did the combo tea sincd you can get hibiscus by itself as tea.

    I have done the flu alone once and it was the worst. Art was out of the country and Wesley was at college. When I thought my temp had broke and I could move enough to get the thermometer, my temp registered at 103°.
    The. Sickest. Ever.

  9. The last time I can recall having the flu was after second son was born so forty years ago. Sis in law was up to visit and help out. It was a blessing to have her there when I was so sick, as well as husband who always takes wonderful care of me.

  10. The flu can really knock you out. I didn’t get it often but after catching it a couple times in more recent years I decided it might be time to get the flu shot on an annual basis. I’d only had the shot a couple times before that, one time as a precaution when I was flying to NY for Christmas and some other weird thing was going around, the swine or bird flu, I think it was.

    But otherwise I did OK without the shots.

    Bodies change, though, and our immune systems change as we get a bit older. So now I’m rolling up my sleeve for the flu vaccine each fall.

  11. I believe I had the bird flu of 1968. That was a big year in Moscow with a lot of snow. Seems I was out of school for nearly two weeks and I recall being very cold walking to school after it. I suspect my body had unacclimated and lost weight so the cold was piercing.

  12. I think I had what they called the “Asian” flu as a kid around 1959? Sick, sick, sick I was, no food would stay down.

    ******

    The Hong Kong flu, also known as the 1968 flu pandemic, was a flu pandemic whose outbreak in 1968 and 1969 killed between one and four million people globally. It is among the deadliest pandemics in history, and was caused by an H3N2 strain of the influenza A virus.

    *****
    The “Asian Flu” was a category 2 flu pandemic outbreak of avian influenza that originated in China in early 1956 lasting until 1958 (or ’59, depending on source material) — over the first 3 years of circulation, during 1957–1959, corresponding to 1.1 million deaths globally

  13. I received word that my friend is home from the hospital. Her husband tested negative and she is asymptomatic with a cough and fatigue. Why the hospitalized her in the first place I have no idea. Not much of this makes sense to me but I am thankful she is home and recovering. I am hoping they will take me up on my offer to get needed items at the store while they are quarantined. Thanks for all who covered them in prayer.

    I have had one flu shot in my life and I and husband got deathly ill. 27 years ago…sickest I have ever been in my life! The reason for our getting shots was because we were old…40…and found ourselves parents of a newborn…we wanted to be healthy! 🙃

  14. My father attributed the Asian flu to having settled in my brother’s pancreas and causing him to develop juvenile diabetes. It happened while my father was away on sea duty. Our lives were forever changed.
